  1. Puel is ****ing himself right now. Leicester stranded on 30 points.Good luck to him as well. karma.

There is the distinct wiff of schadenfreude about this. The narrative is everywhere you tune in when Saints are being discussed.

    Worrying times.

  2. Hopefully. I'd rather he spent a large proportion of the remaining season on their treatment table rather than ours.

Press reports suggest Liverpool want to sell rather than loan though.

Could Sturridge end up at Everton? Stupid enough to pay the wages and fee. I don't know what the precedence is for players moving between the Merseyside clubs.

As for Walcott, not sure how committed he would be on loan. It sounds like the only way we would get him. Arse paying half his wages would make it viable I would have thought.

Not sure I fancy him based on arsenal fans comments. Usual online jibes aside they don't rate him too highly.

  3. ‘A deal worth up to...’ can mean all sorts of things but it sure as hell ain’t all that money up front.

From the Telegraph article linked on previous page:

Liverpool have agreed to pay £70m of the fee up front, with Celtic also benefitting from a 10 per cent sell on clause on a deal that then rises to £75m.

This deal obviously leaves a very bitter taste because of VVD attitude in the summer and this season and the fact is Liverpool again.

However, I said in the summer, I would sell to them if the deal was all the cash up front. S that is being reported by our press man(sic), Jeremy Wilson, I take it as fact.

This was the bare minimum I was prepared to accept. It's still sticks tho. Perhaps Walcott coming home plus s couple of other decent signings will soften the blow. Maybe VVD has been such a c*nt that now he's gone, the team will stop messing about.

  4. Why not. He's not a 'yes man' like MP and Puel and might shake this shower into order. He might tell Reed to f*** off too which is no bad thing.

I gather something like that has happened at Boro with Gibson.

  5. This line gets spouted constantly in the media, but very few people on here suggest that nowadays because it simply isn't true any more. That was our business model; all that changed when we started tying down key players to long contracts, presumably to a/ keep the core of the squad together, and b/ dispel the widely-held belief that we are simply a "selling club" with no further aspirations. That was reinforced by our refusal to sell Van Dijk for what would certainly have been a UK transfer record for a defender.

I'm not saying the idea has worked out as planned though, so far it clearly hasn't done much to improve us other than to make a wider point that we won't just roll over and sell any player to any club who feels like buying them for decent money.

I'm not so sure. I think the long contracts are nothing more than ensuring we can maximize our resale. Van Dijk is proof that nothing has changed despite the long contract.

We might find the quality of our players redresses the balance after the sale of Van Dijk.

  6. So a Manager new to this league has made mistakes. If he has anything about him he will learn

and the more mistakes he makes the more he will learn.

Instead of following the sheep in this throw away instant success society why don't we try to build something to last. That means giving him more time than this.

I'm all for this sentiment and you genuinely summed up perfectly my take on all this.

However, our business model (sic) is to do exactly the opposite and sell once our players have reached market valuation.

It's dispiriting and disheartening enough when this happens but to actually progress and reincarnate ourselves softens the blow.

The problem arises when you stop progressing and regress. Then the disillusionment manifests itself tenfold. This I believe is the crux of the problem.

We're a tough watch and an even tougher sell at the minute.

    Keep the faith tho.

  7. Difficult to find the positives in that performance. I'm generally quite well balanced to football but it's really, really difficult at the minute.

I saw several players putting shifts in but for the life of me cannot see how the team is setup to win a game of football. Maybe if we were playing against 8 men I could figure it out but playing against well organized, energised players playing compact defensive football we will struggle to score nevermind win.

    It's ineffective, unsophisticated, turgid dross.

    Southampton Nil FC

    Pfffffffftt

  8. I genuinely feel this board should be closed for a few hours after a poor performance for the sake of some fans sanity.

I really do worry about some of you.

Keep calm. Call it an early night. Give the Ukrainian green the swerve and get fit for work tomorrow morning.

  9. Keep it loud... Obviously not dangerously so but anything to drown out the away end helps IMO.

I absolutely love that we play The Skids as it's such a great song. If budget allowed I'd have them there at every home game belting it out live.. surely we'd be the most respected club in the country for that alone, nevermind the youth setup.

  10. I did this before every match before the game next to the entrance to the pitch from the changing rooms. I was waiting for Stuart Pearce but he walked up the stairs away from me, I shouted up to him "you didn't sign my book" and he turned around and came back down to sign. Always been fond of him since then.

I had my junior saints birthday card signed by Benali but when he was the boo boy of the team and he sent me an accompanying full page letter saying that I was the only who put him down as his favourite player.. legend.

On a Pearce related note, I once called out Pyschco! to him. Evidently he wasn't too keen on his nickname judging from the glare he fixed me with afterwards.

  11. I quite like the pre-match tunes at the minute, definitely helps the atmosphere. Best I saw though was in a packed stadium in Katowice years ago. The DJ played mad euro-techno tunes for 90 mins before kick off & the mental Poles in the stand behind the far goal were bouncing about the entire time. Perhaps a pre-match rave is required at SMS? lol

Pills, Penfield gagools, baggy jeans (on their way back apparently), those flower-pot hats that Reni wears... All these things plus the choonz would help the atmosphere ?

  12. Yeah cheers. I couldn’t see it anywhere on sportsmania forum either. At least now covered for Stoke game.

Where is this forum I keep hearing about? Had a look today but my subscription has expired. Will try this new code...

  13. Only saw second half due to streaming issues... (thanks to guys once again in streaming thread)... Lemina looks Schneiderlin-esque. Long was a complete PITA to their defence... causes so many issues... never looks like scoring but a horrid player to play against. Cedric and Berty solid but Yoshi and Hoedt were brilliant.
