Netflix, a popular streaming service in the US, has launched in the UK. This is rather big in the US, as anyone who listens to US-based podcasts will know. I'm also a member of LoveFILM, which also does streaming. Thus far, finding Netflix to be much better quality, in terms of selection and quality ( it does HD, for example ). Anyone else using this yet? Any recommendations? I've been catching up on The Thick of It. Damn, that's a good show.

Jeff Goldblum in Independence Day is the greatest computer programmer the world has ever seen. Not only was he able to construct a computer virus capable of taking out an alien defence system, he also had the time to put a skull and crossbones on the screen and make it laugh. All hail Jeff, and hats off to the aliens for using interoperable technologies!

Was a bit wary of this lot on account of the hype, but I disagree with you, at least on their first album. Don't really think that they're trying to be funny as such, more like trying to capture what its like to be twenty-something in England. However, there's nothing more offputting about a band than fans who are nobs, so I have some sympathy for your position. As someone who just listened to them on his iPod, I really liked them.

I love all this stuff. Most of it comes from a studio that set out to make crap like this. My favourite is Mega-Shark vs Giant Octopus, which stars Debbie Gibson.

I have known Dr Who? since we were seven years old. That is him, and he does not have a working TARDIS.

Not really, TDD - but that's nothing new. So if the situation with Iran is so fragile, why is the West currently antagonising them? Why did the West, specifically the US, ignore the efforts made by Iranian reformists to thaw relations? The last ten years of US-led foreign policy have been imperialism under a different banner. This is no different, and at no stage during this thread have you demonstrated why Iran is a threat, or what they've done in the past which they may repeat again. Have you ever considered that it might be you who lacks perspective here?

Russia's "worries" centre on the underground enrichment facilities. They have called for further talks, and are asking Iran to join six-way talks without any preconditions. I'd argue that this approach is likely to lead to more progress than labelling them the "Axis of Evil".
-
Didn't know this. Interesting. And that's the thing. Judged against some of the atrocities the West has committed, even in the same timeframe, Iran doesn't seem like a threat. Sure, we may not like that Iran supports Hezbollah, but we can understand it - especially since the state itself is honest to a fault about how it feels about Israel.

Surely not "Don't Mess With the Zohan"?
-
Or rather, the considered opinion of people that actually know a bit of history and have qualified their opinions. Perhaps you would like to weigh in, JJ? What evidence do we have that Iran is an international aggressor?
-
I suspect the actual difference is that up until now, Pakistan has co-operated with the West's intentions. I don't really see how them being in a 'warm war' with India has any bearing on why they should be allowed to have nukes.
-
So you're saying that if Iran launched a large bomb on an item of strategic interest, the West would just leave them alone? And what's all this "depends if we invade" bolox, mate? An invasion is not a pre-requisite for wholesale destruction. You know this. So, let's take it as read that any aggressive act from Iran will be met with a very deadly response. Therefore, I don't buy the notion that Iran will control the Middle East if it decided to attack other nations. It'll be smashed to pieces shortly afterward.
-
They would control the Middle East after their country has been reduced to a smoking husk?
-
They want nukes to stop other countries from messing with them. Your tone is almost as inappropriate to the debate as your line of argument thus far, sir. Pretty much every fact you've listed has been wrong. Not wrong in the sense of "inaccurate" either, more wrong in the sense of "the complete opposite".
-
Right... And they would do this why exactly? What would they gain from this move, save a one-way trip to oblivion?
-
A very interesting read from 2002, shortly after George W. Bush denounced Iran as a member of the Axis of Evil. http://www.salon.com/2002/02/07/tehran/ The result of that label? The return of anti-American rhetoric, weakening of reformers and played right into the hands of Iranian hard-liners. The article addresses Iran/Al Qaeda specifically.
-
Sorry, mate - you are spouting utter nonsense. First, tell me what links there are between Iran and the atrocities you mention. If anyone has been responsible for fermenting anti-Western sentiment, it has been the West over the last ten years. The US had the ear and co-operation of the world immediately after 9/11. So what does it do? Starts invading Muslim countries and places Iran on an Axis of Evil, despite no evidence of international aggression save the noise of espionage. Step back for a moment and consider that. Axis of Evil. It sounds like something from an 80s kids cartoon, ffs. The simple fact is that this present regime has done nothing to remotely justify the tag of international bad guys. Those who accuse it of being a rogue state are responsible for millions of deaths in the past decade. Still, let's not let the facts get in the way of a nice scary story, eh?
-
Never seen Clockwork Orange, but the other three films you mention are class. If you don't agree with me, I'll make you my dog's bi.tch
-
Don't Mess With the Zohan. Utter bolox from Adam Sandler, which is all he seems to be interested in making these days.

I'm from a large family, but my own is pegged at two girls. I do feel a little bit guilty about only having two. Brothers and sisters are a gift to your kids in later life. The missus claims that she'd go for one more if we could guarantee a son, but my youngest is 12, we had kids relatively young ( I was a mere 19 when first one was born ) so to be perfectly honest, enjoying the free time that you get when your kids get their own social lives ( better than mine, currently ) and am looking forward to a bit of a break on the child-rearing front in 6 years time. They'll just be after money then
-
I have never listened to them, in truth - but have always fancied giving them a go. Where would one start, sir? Album-wise, I mean.
-
To add to that, the havoc that Iran have created has caused nowhere near as much damage as the meddling of Western powers.
-
The islands you're referring to are the Tunb Islands. These were captured in 1971 when the Shah was in power. The Iranian Revolution happened in 1979. So I say again, this regime has never invaded another country. I don't think anyone on here is disputing that the Iranians probably are building the bomb. Yet history shows that:- a) The present Iranian regime has never attacked another country b) No-one that has the bomb has ever used it on another country, save for the Yanks in Japan when it was first invented and no-one else had it. So how are you making the leap that Iran would?
-
Good video, Bexy. Agree with your other points too. It makes no logical sense unless you think Ahmedinijad is some kind of crazed moustache-twirling 24 villain on the road to oblivion. Which many people do, because they don't learn from history and they eat the sh*t they're fed.
