Hoping you're right on this as agreed completely - at least Still has already publicly said we need more attacking help so he's not going let them make a mug of him hopefully.
Other 'bright side' thing to remember is as I said before, every decent AM in Europe will be hanging on till the last minute hoping to get a Champs League club then Europa League, top league and only after they've had their hopes dashed do they come to us!
Aspiring to play champions league football and ending up at championship Saints, I’d say that having your hopes “dashed” is tincy wincy bit of an understatement!

I think he could be a Jack Cork type of player in the PL with better players around him but yes, in essence, why would the club take a loss of £8m on a proven top player for the division they are currently in? Rangers can’t afford the wages let alone the fee and Martin probably won’t be there that long. Plus, haven't Flynn and his partner had their first child? Not optimum for uprooting.
I think he’s more Harrison Reed than Jack Cork. Serviceable but unremarkable, with a questionable attitude.

I have it on fairly good authority that the club would prefer that Fernandes stays and would accept a decent offer for Dibling to provide funds for new players.
However Fernandes and his advisors want him to move on to bigger and better things, which is a shame. It’s a shame for us, but not for him, he is clearly a rising star, he owes us nothing. He’s one of a very small number of players who’s head never dropped during the abomination that was last season. We (SR) failed him.

Regarding losing our best players it is what it is.
Looking forward to this season, however if we get promoted then what ? Don't know about you but I've fell out of love with the Premier league, it's a circus....
the premier league isn’t much fun anymore, but it is where you need to be to avoid becoming progressively weaker. You just can’t afford to get stuck in the championship for too long.

Is Tyler the right personality to have Moyes giving him the hair dryer treatment?
I don’t think Moyes does that, I seem to recall an interview recently where he said he does not do that and it doesn’t work on modern players?

Their new ground looks spectacular, maybe this is the start of a new era

If he's not going to sign a new contract, then I think 35-40 is probably about as good as it gets. Still be a bit surprised anyone in the PL is willing to stump up that much tbh, I don't think he's a sure thing partly because he needs game time and probably careful management. He can't be relied on to be a game-changer every week at PL level yet, and that's generally what you expect at that price.
He’d be in good hands with Moyes

You couldn't hack it in London Tyler, let alone Liverpool...
Liverpool is a very friendly city, and he’s a few years older.

What is exactly is the advantage for Newcastle in going for a loan ? Apart from handing him back if he’s crap.
We’re not talking mega money going into or from this years accounts.
It is possible that their might be a clause in there that says he returns to us in the event of promotion, that would align with what Dragan said in the Echo interview?

While "whom" is grammatically correct after a preposition like "by," using "who" is widely accepted in everyday English because aligns with how people actually speak.
How “people actually speak” is a very low bar Matthew, quite frankly I yet again find myself disappointed in your slipshod attitude!!

Love his character but I feel he needs get that “scared to score Fraser “ tag that I mentally envisage whenever I see him, off his back. Get more ruthless more devastating a lot less jovial “ wee man”. Get angry get goals get assists get greedy - and forget your squad popularity.
Really ? I’d say that’s what has cast a dark cloud over his career.
To your other point, he is way too old to play on the wing. He was in decline when we took him on loan in the championship, and that was 2 years ago. We should never have signed him permanently, I think he needs to go.

I don't think that we can let Downes go to someone else in this division. If he's going the it's to the prem or abroad.
He might be fully in board with Still? But I think he fancies himself as a premier league player, so whether a move to another championship club would suit him I’m not sure.

Not getting hopes up for “need to go”, may well just mean ABK..
Need to go and want to go will be the same thing in the clubs eyes. Flynn Downes, Aribo, ABK, Jan , maybe Tyler. Let’s not forget the little shit that is Fraser, who didn’t feel like playing for half a season.

Personally I think we'll have a bumpy start to the season and Still is going to need time
I don't think he will get a lot of time, not his fault (yet), but after the last few years of terrible SR ownership and management the fans will have very limited patience.

Jason Dodd was a very good full back. Franny had his limitations but was a level above Stephens albeit in a different position.
I loved Frannie but he was punching well above his weight playing top flight football.

I cannot imagine Ramsdale is stying, just hope a good immediate starter of a keeper is brought in
We also clearly need someone with quality out wide
That’s one in the eye for him!

What a bunch of miserable sods there are on here. Still analyzing every word Martin says and trying to poke holes.
He gave us a memorable season in the Championship (and let's not forget the absolute mess he inherited) and was way out of his depth in the Premiership but left a long tme ago.
Time to move on methinks.
I don’t know so much, we are currently only 345 pages in.

Whether we like it or not he is obviously seen as a leader within the club and by the squad of players. He definitely channels it in the wrong way at times but he does have that bit of aggression that sometimes we have lacked and I believe that he is genuine in that he does care.
Forget the PL because we aren't there and if were to get there he would be a squad player at best which I am sure he knows.
For now he is the captain, and assuming THB and Bednarek go then he is probably worth a starting XI place.
If you want someone to genuinely be a leader then I can see the sense in avoiding a situation where that person has less than 12mths on their contract and potentially gets distracted.
Also lets be honest, if not JS as captain then who? Downs who had a hissy fit when he couldnt leave to a rival in January? Adam Armstrong who most want gone? Ryan Manning who most on here think isn't good enough?
All considered its probably a year more than most would feel neccessary but hardly the madness it has been made out to be.
100% agree with you on this one.

I think we need to stop being sentimental about players who “may” come good one day. We all know we have a huge squad which we need to thin. If some of those players fulfil their potential in the future, so be it.

Why would he though, he'd get lumps kicked out of him every week for a fraction of the fame and fortune?
