Saints. The regular failure to sign our targets

as soon as another club shows interest.

We have had poor recruitment in the last

3 windows. Never mind Fat Les will sign what's left

in the market in late July

Mind you selling players is no problem to our board

Hmmm...I think we took risks on players that were well short of the ones we replaced. This gradually reduced our effectiveness and the slow decline 'sleepwalk' had begun. No-one seemed to be able to wake the club up and the alarm bells though strong, were not close enough to those that led the club.

Les must know that he messed up big time

The transfer failures over numerous Windows and the appointment of Pellegrino and the failure to act when it was clearly going wrong would get anybody the sack.

The worst aspect is the silence from the club the idea they don't need to let the fans know anything which has been in place for years.

To be kind it's time for a fresh approach

we will get a totally unconvincing apology from the board and the promise to work to bring us back up.

We will dither over the manager and appoint the new one a couple of weeks before the season starts

They will have a fire sale of any player they can shift and won't sign anyone till they know who they are left with

We need Tadic Redmond and the other serial failures out of the club.

My worst fear is we will keep Long as a striker expecting him to succeed when he has failed as a goal scorer for two seasons

We need to ensure we start with a largely new squad to ensure we don't carry the sickness we have into the next season

We need to bring more football expertise into the board Les is passed his sell by date and if we rely on him we will just get the same

I never really want to see Tadic ever play for Saints again

I hope never to see Redmond play in a Saints strip again and although Long works hard I couldn't stand watching him constantly fail to score straight forward opportunities for another season . Les hasn't been seen or heard of for months so it seems he might have done a runner

Because bending over to the happy clappers has really worked wonders

The board sat on its hands when it was obvious Pellegrino would not turn it around

There is almost no insight from within the Club on what is going on. If it is down to Gao's lack of engagement then Ralph, with his reputation to protect, should by now be dropping thoughts into the media that this is being handled exactly as the main owner wants it to. Likewise Reed who's reputation will dive into the gutter if we are relegated. There are also several lesser known Executive Directors such as the MD and the "Marketing" Director who have their longer term careers to worry about.

It's hard to think of a club that gives less information to its fans.

The contempt that we should just wait till they decide when they might give us some information

But of course if you never give out any information you can't be blamed when you fail to sign a player or attract a manager.

Go back a couple of years to threads on this forum about who we should buy and most people looked at our team and said the one thing we were missing was a top central attacking midfield player, someone in the mould of Eriksen. We haven't signed that player but moreover over the last three years we have lost Schneiderlin, Clyne, Alderweireld (okay he was only on loan), Wanyama, Mane, Pelle, Fonte and Van Dijk and while we have made some good signings since then (Romeu, Cedric, Austin, Lemina), I struggle to see how anyone we have bought in the last three years (Van Dijk aside, who has left anyway) was actually an improvement on the players we lost. Romeu has done well but is he as good as Schneiderlin was? Cedric good but not as good as Clyne IMO. Austin injured too much. Lemina good but as good as Wanyama? Players like Redmond, Boufal, Gabbiadini and Hoj have all been inconsistent.

 

If we have any intention of getting back to challenging top six/top four as we did under Poch and Koeman then I think we need most of a new team. Only Bertrand, Lemina and Tadic (if he can regain 2014-16 form) are at that level now (although perhaps some of the newer players could be with more experience).

 

Right now I think we are a lower mid-table team unfortunately, mostly because whilst our play is tidy enough in most respects, we aren't good enough in each box and that is where games are won and lost. With a commanding CB and a decent centre forward we would be competing with Leicester and Everton for 7th-9th but at the moment we are below that.

 

Of course in reality we are 18th in the league and several wins short of where we should be with these players and that is mostly because we have got a duff manager

We have made a conscious decision to persist with a manager who is defensively minded. This stilted our attack and resulted in giving a free pass to attack us for most of every second half. Inevitably we conceded goals and matches we could have drawn or won

There has been some bad luck but we shackled our own ability to win matches.

Persisting with players like Redmond and Fraser when everyone knew they needed to be dropped was just poor management

The failure to reinforce properly in the window means we lack some cover and have a striker trying to find his feet in the premier league

We have really shot ourselves in the foot. We will sack Pellegrino but the stubborn decision not to sack a manager with a 16% win ratio when such results would have got him sacked in any other club in the world will be laid at uncle Les s door if we get relegated

The odds are if we continue the seasons form we will go down through sheer bad management of the club

Who seriously wants Pellegrino here for another season

The board should pay the price if they persist with this donkey. They will have to explain why they sat on their hands from November. Does anyone seriously think the fans will accept Pellegrino for next season when we are in the championship .

Even if we were to stay up would anyone want another season with him.

They will sack him but too late to save our premiership status. The board are letting the fans down and if they do I won't renew my season ticket I won't need to.

It would be very difficult to get worse unless we decide to get an umsworth type character. Almost any vaguely competent manager with a bit of fight about them could keep us up in my opinion.

It is not possible to justify sticking with Pellgriino. The only justification is they want to sign some players before they sack him

The level of incompetence from the board is criminal . Decisive action was required in November

It's Les in charge of all football matters that will see the club relegated.

People are crying out for pace and a goal threat, but then turn their noses up at Walcott (who scored 19 goals in 39 appearances last year)...

 

He is a significant improvement on all our attacking players (attacking mids and strikers)... and he is someone that was still tempted to come here despite our position and prospects.

 

He would have been far better for the club than some merchant with no premier league experience.

Two weeks into the window the rumours are we are looking to sign a couple of players not making the team in their existing clubs. Every other team is happy to be associated with targets not us. Relegation costs £100m . Les failed in the last window and here we are struggling to get any player across the line. We have a manager who is going to be sacked at some point but it would appear Les is happy to gamble the financial disaster relegation would be. I hope he realises the fans will never forgive him for relegation and hound him out of the club. He is an old man past his sell by date

Don't think so seems MoPe feels they are all DMs but I reckon Hoj or Lemina could play a more advance role like Davis does.

The plan will of course be to put everybody behind the ball with Shane Long expected to play on the break.

Every club in the lower half of the league would play in a similar manner.

In the last ten minutes when all is lost we will charge up the field when spurs are just waiting for the match to be over.

We will hoof the ball over midfield to no effect but hey don't we show we are looking to get back in the game.

They won't change the manager till the window is closed not to spook any player coming in .

The manager shoukd have gone in November. How low does his win ratio have to go to get the sack like any other manager.

Always remember us playing Man U last day of August 2003, second half Fergie brought on some Portuguese nipper he had bought in the summer by the name of Christiano Ronaldo. Confident little chap, got the ball and proceeded to run down the wing doing a silly amount of step overs and other cleverness. Le Saux picked his moment and up ended him.

WGS brought on CMFG to tighten stuff up, Ronaldo once again got the ball and once again was re enacting Riverdance better than Michael Flatley down the wing, ball at his feet. Le Saux was already on a warning so backing up or off, but from midfield this bald headed Exocet launched himself on a diagonal trajectory across the pitch, poor Christiano probably didn't see him coming, still flat out Marsden put both ball and player into touch. Being the Gent that he was CMFG followed Ronaldo, bent down and offered him hand to get him to his feet, also looked like he was having a word in his young ear. Given that Ronaldo pretty much vanished from the game after that you could guess the message from Chris was "Ok you've had your fun, we'll have no more of that nonsense this afternoon".

 

Met him by chance at the Hilton the day after we beat Liverpool 2-0 we were on separate tables in the lounge area, whoever he was with and my boss had just vanished off, so we had a brief chat, my boss came back and continued our meeting. When we finished and got up to leave, Chris got up from his table came over shook my hand and said cheerio. Even as a grown man I had a grin on my face probably all the way home.

Ralph and Les will dither and dither till Feb before sacking him

The idea that Walcott or some other has been will save us is laughable .

No doubt it will be the last week in the window before any player arrives.

Looking at it on Wikipedia (therefore I don't know how accurate it is, and I'm too tired to check), the win rates for our managers (in all competitions) are as follows....

 

Adkins - 54%

Pochettino - 38.3%

Koeman - 48.35%

Puel - 37.7%

Pellegrino - 17.4%

 

Obviously Adkins win rate is inflated by League 1/Championship results, but even if you remove him from the equation, it looks pretty damning for Pellegrino. The club will no doubt have such stats at their disposal, so it's staggering that Krueger was going the ol' VVD situation route earlier, as though it could account for such a disparity. Note: not that I'm saying that ~17% difference between Pellegrino and Puel/Pochettino is entirely his doing, there are obviously other factors as well, but why do the club think inaction is the answer to the problem? A lotta blind 'we'll turn it around' faith going on in the boardrooms at St.Mary's/whereverthef*ck.

A win ratio of 17.4 % ? What other manager would survive that?

Secondly believing Shane Long will start scoring when he has scored once since Feb

Tadic and Redmond will turn their game around how likely is that ?

And Bertrand gesturing to the crowd being acceptable

So who are the three or four teams that are worse than us? I've noticed that clubs who find themselves in trouble in the first half of the season but take practical steps to analyse and address the problem with realistic pruning and signings (such as Everton, Leicester, and a rejuvenated Crystal Palace) are the teams that are most likely to survive.

 

Meanwhile Les dithers while morale throughout our squad is on a downwards path. Not good.

Les is the king of ditherers. We need to buy three players in the next window.

We constantly fail to sign players because we want a cheap price and either we **** them off or another club is prepared to pay more. Uncle Les five year contracts seemed a good idea but the downside is they are now financially secure no matter how they play.
