So 3pts here. Everton and Leicester draw, we roll over Forest and get into top form for Fulham.

    Easy peasy!

We should have tried this goal scoring thing a while back!

It's the hope that kills you! I had accepted regulation weeks ago, and now they fcuk with me 💀

It’s bloody stupid isn’t it? If you haven’t got a top to put back on you either drink it straight away, keep hold of it so it gets warm in your hand or stick it under your sit for some twat to kick over.

What harm do they seriously think a plastic bottle top will do.

Not that I agree but the rational is that a full bottle with a top when thrown at players/fans will do more harm than one without (as some/most of the water will leave the bottle prior to impact and thus cause less injury). Safety rules gone mad like some many other rules

Agree with this. If its not a leveraged buy put to take ownership using debt then why wouldnt you have a chunk of cash to invest to build your new asset. Particularly when relegation would wipe off 75% of its value.

IMO there is definitely an investment of cash even if the longer term goal is sustainability.

Agree with this mostly. I am fairly sure it's not a leveraged buy out (they want to build a multi club model and you don't do that by leveraged buy out) and I 'm sure it was reported at the time of take over as well. I will freely admit I do not know the details or have insider info, but it would not make sense. What SR are doing IMHO is investing for a mid/longer term investment, in that they are willing to invest now to get a return over time, maybe 5 to 10 years and not in one season.

At the time of the purchase it was said that the price was low at £100M as they were also taking on the debt and looking to pay it off immediately. If I remember correctly the structure of the loan meant SR could not repay it immediately (or it had no financial benefit to do so) and are stuck with 7 years repayment. Ok it might mean they pay more interest but also have more investment funds - so speculate to accumulate - how most business work. They will certainly look to get a return on their investment but maybe over a longer period. If SR did not have investment funds they would not be looking buy more clubs.

BTW I think Gao had the same idea but the rug was pulled under his feet by the Chinese government.

    Romeu?

Maybe. I really like Rom and on his day he is awesome, however Casey lifted the whole team and protected the younger players. He was my  best L McM signing and had a massive influence on us (appreciate the Bally remarks and others such as Nichol as a player etc.). He was the midfield maestro that pulled all the strings.

I feel you can't really buy that sort of influence in the dressing room, it seems a bit artificial, its more a gradual development of that sort of dynamic from players who are already here and have been for a long time who develop with the club and their teammates into those leadership/mentoring sort of roles.

We are not going to be able to buy established world class stars who have won everything, that is never going to be on our radar.

Basically who is better for our team, a young developing player who wants to improve himself and establish himself as a player, probably grateful for the opportunity the club has given him, who can grow with the team OR a 32 year old journeyman type player looking for his last payday? Because a lot of the names I have seen people mention IMO seem to fit more in that later category.  But also if you bring those sort of players in how does that impact players like JWP, Romeu, Armstrong etc. who are already seen as the experienced leaders in the dressing room, you are potentially causing conflict there.

Whilst on a completely different level to us, isn't that essentially the issue PSG has, buying a team full of aging stars on huge wagepackets, none of whom really have a connection to the club, conflicting egos, whilst ignoring their youth products who are born close to the area, maybe grew up supporting the club and could grow and develop into players whilst at the club giving their all. It's quite absurd how many good players out there played for PSGs youth team's they have let go, whilst they are struggling to build a team dynamic and identity.

Also as others have said it's not like we are buying players who are all 18 and have only played youth football, a few like Tino and potentially Lavia are like that, but Bella-Kotchap was playing regular first team football in the Bundesliga last year, Salisu was doing the same in La Liga facing off against Messi, Perraud had played multiple seasons in Ligue 1, even Bazanu has played several full seasons of lower league football and even has international experience against top teams like Serbia and Portugal.  Quite often these guys if they have not played full internationals have still played youth tournaments etc. for their country, been under that pressure to perform, played in front of big crowds etc. despite their age.

We need a modern day Jimmy Case (in addition to the youngsters) - he single handedly transformed us - for those old enough to remember.

Must have been 2005 I started supporting them then because the first manager I remember was Wigley.

I do remember others being around ie Strachan, Hoddle etc but I was a late bloomer in football supporting terms so I only really got into football when I was about 14. So I kinda remember the previous managers being around and hearing their names in conversation.

1976 for me. Remember being dragged along to an FA cup game against Villa where Hugh Fisher equalised in the final moments of the game - hooked ever since - what a first season 🤩

I'd say at the moment Stephens is better than the Gorilla who is a bit erratic and gets carried away with enthusiasm,  i remember reading about the contract extension for Stephens but that has never been confirmed? He must be due a testimonial soon? Maybe delay is over negotiations on who the opponents will be for that

Guessing he might be one of the one's Ralph was complaining about letting contract run down and going for free? Stephen's hasn't been a regular for some time and might feel he is better off getting a starting place elsewhere. Agent's probably been tapped up by another club and would get a big signing on fee. Difficult one - could he be a regular starter here - maybe? (guaranteed - definitely not). Would be Ralph/club MO to leave out a player refusing to sign a new contract unless we absolutely had to use them (same situation with FF I reckon).

    Great points.

    To add.

    - Michael Owen said, "he did stamp on him but it's accidental".

Sorry Michael but by definition a stamp is deliberate.

    - Had JWP swung at Bruno he'd have gone to turf holding his face. I'm glad JWP didn't, we're better than that.

    - Ronaldo was offside twice in that move and there were at least 6 other United players offside from the initial ball. Not sure what they can complain about.

It doesn't matter if it is accidental or didn't connect - it's the intent that is supposed to be punished and once again the "top 6" advantage comes into play. Also, agree nearly 5 MU players are off side by a mile and VAR take time to review but fail to see it from MU's advantage.

Completely agree - other way around and we are a man down and losing the game - where is that poster (and yes I know who he is) that claims there is no top 4/6 advantage?

  9. Why doesn't Ralph just stick to managing the team and showing results on the pitch? All of his latest comments/gripes about Broja (how well he is doing, us negotiating with Chelsea, his parents wanting to play for us), comments about trying to bring other players on Livra type deal, retiring in 2024, now comments about him being sick to his stomach about players running down their contracts (hello - what have we just done lately with Livra etc.) are really not helping us and more to the point are so unnecessary - does he really believe he will influence anyone significant (and if he's trying to appease the fans, then I for one am not impressed).

Of late he has done well on the field and got us playing well and fingers crossed we will be comfortably out of trouble so well done to him for that. However, why change the view of the footballing world that we are a nice friendly family club, who most people quite like or at least don't see as knobs?

You're missing the point Red is saying.

Fair enough VAR would of ruled it out but Red was commenting on the reaction from Caballero, which as a squad we tend to lack so that was good to see

Exactly my point - thank you. I am ignoring MLG's  response to yours as there is no point in arguing for the sake of it.

It's a bit like saying there's no point in diving, but when you lose out so much eventually you have "to join the club" to even out the odds even if you (and certainly I do) disagree with it.

What Caballero did after the ball went in the net was irrelevant. VAR was in use yesterday and the Coventry player was clearly offside, there was no chance it was going to stand.

This place is all about opinions so fair do's you're perfectly entitled to yours's. Mine is there is no coincidence between big club (manager and players) "screaming blue murder" and getting the "right decision".  VAR is in use today with the Liverpool game - did not even refer two contentious decisions, never mind the outcome.

Regardless of the outcome - I want our players to at least seem as they care and "die for the cause".

Into the next round, all you can ask for I guess after that starting line up.

I would suggest what else you can ask for is fielding a decent team to start with. Ralph got away with that but we went to extra time so did it really achieve what he was trying to do?

  13. With a 2 week break - why on earth have we put that team out? Sure try 1 or 2 different players but these many changes. When people question Ralph's judgement - this is why?

Small is not going to be our first LB any time soon, and Valery might not see too many more games. All the debate about Livra playing further forward should be put to bed now. Long seems better than Armstrong on this showing.

See, I cant stand the ‘where are the Ralph outers now’ rhetoric. At the time people wanted to change the manager, almost every club in the EPL would have sacked him. He was pointlessly stubborn and RH made some horrendous decisions. It was binary - he can be a good manager for us, but went through an incredibly lengthy shit run of form where he should have been sacked.

That he hasn’t, and it has worked out, doesn’t make anyone who wanted him gone look like a dick or anything, as much as it doesnt make anyone who wanted to keep him look like they deity they want to be seen as.

If RH goes through another really shit spell, id be amazed if he kept his job next time, although hopefully he has learned from some pretty obvious mistakes.

But please can anyone doing the whole Where are the RH outers now go a boil their heads in their own piss. It isn’t just on here, exactly the same on the ‘Not’ forum, and boils me piss i tells ya.

Just goes to show how people see the game differently. I thought Long played well yesterday and deserved the applause when he went off.

Agree with you. I though he was great and would have rather Ralph took off AA than Long for Broja.

    All about opinions I guess?

Can anyone help me please? I am trying to find the resident "Ralph Bashers" that come on here, week in - week out. They didn't seem to be around on Boxing Day evening and they are very quiet again this evening. Has something happened to them? I do hope the're alright. Must be a tough time for them.

Enjoy it - 4 points from the two, potentially very tough "festive" games so far. I would have taken that at the start. Great second half defensive display today. Well done to the whole team......Oh, and Ralph too.

You are so far off the mark - it's just bollocks - I am not a Ralph fan and have said so many times - including Boxing day if you just do your research. I praised him for his team selection and finally making a change then. He was good today as well, but left it very late to make changes when we were obviously shattered.

Is it really rocket science to play your best right back at right back, and the better keeper? It might not have dawned on you but the last two results we have had were the result of a change of formation and personal - that was all any of us were asking for. Ralph is a highly paid professional coach/manager and it shouldn't take a novice (or simpleton if you prefer) like me to spot what he doesn't is is too stubborn to do so.

Yes we have a limited squad but one that can play a lot better when managed and deployed better.

  17. Have to say I'm still in the Ralph out camp, but credit where it's due - he did well Sunday with the team selection and tactics. Not a team I would have picked but then what do I know?

Changing to 4:1:4:1 and Forster was the difference. If only he was more flexible more often. Also, would defo vary JWP corner taking.

Do you know his level of input into the signing of Salisu?

Is that the same Salisu that was not fit to play for well over 6 months as Ralph thought he was not ready, and is only playing as we have no other options - Ralph preferred Vesty to him (says it all really about Ralph's thoughts of Salisu). Salisu is promising but only that - he has a lot of mistakes in him and has been arguably responsible for a fair few of our goals conceded.

IMO, and yes it's only my opinion (before you fly off on another one) Ralph had minimal input in his transfer in any case.

And whilst I mentioned Europe, it should be obvious to anyone but you clearly that Ralph's "known" markets are Germany and Austria. I honestly can't decide if you are a details anorak, or a troll?

Okay lets just dream a bit after all its nearly Christmas.  Lets just say we have new owners by end of the year (not too long left i know) and we get given

a considerable amount to spend in January £60m (i know never gonna happen), could we trust Ralph to galvanize the squad together enough for

    targeted transfers to become effective?.

No. He has found nothing from his home/known markets of Germany/Austria/Europe - why would you think he will suddenly discover a gem?
