  1. YES 60/40 is about right.

    Virgil van Dijk

    Jordy Clasie

    Juanmi

    Oriol Romeu

    Cédric Soares

    Charlie Austin

    Steven Caulker

    Cuco Martina

    Maarten Stekelenburg

    Daniel Osvaldo

    Sadio Mané

    Shane Long

    Dusan Tadic

    Fraser Forster

    Graziano Pellè

    Florin Gardos

    Eljero Elia

    Saphir Taider

    Ryan Bertrand

    Filip Djuricic

    Toby Alderweireld

    Victor Wanyama

    Dejan Lovren

Based on this list, if you ignore the loans it's significantly better than 60/40.

  2. would sour British public life for generations.

Too late for that. It was 17 million votes to 16 million in case you hadn't noticed. This is going to rumble on for a loooong time.

  3. Is Boris on a hunt or something today? Thought he might have popped up here or there with a statement or two. Churchill he ain't.

He's been snookered by Cameron and literally has no idea what to do next - that's why he's so quiet. The whole thing is an unnecessary shambles. No one's coming out of this looking good.

  4. In it for one person and one person only. IMO he (if he goes) probably is worse that MP Lovren etc who never pretended to be anything other than in it for the money.

If another employer came to anyone on this forum and offered the same role, double the money and a massively increased budget to potentially turn their workplace into a market force then they'd leave too. I know I would - you'd have to be more or less mental not to.

Koeman's not a Saints fan - he's a professional football manager. Why should he stay? He's given us our best ever Premier League finish and guaranteed 6 games of European football. It's disappointing for us but that's the way football works. Always has been. People need to stop being fannies about this.

  5. Didn't Nicholl end up being assistant to Ray at Walsall a few years later?

That Nicholl team of 89-90 is unquestionably why I became a Saints fan - up to that point I wasn't really interested in football but my brothers and Dad were. That was the team that changed everything.

I ****ing loved that team. Rodney/MLT/Rideout/Shearer/Case/Glenda. Great lineup.

  6. I like Long, his movement and work rate is excellent, but his first touch is not good enough (think the poor touch that fortunately fell to Pelle against Newcastle) and his finishing is not clinical enough, for example that first shot that hit the bar, he really should have scored and kept that down more.

That's why he's playing for us and not someone 'bigger'.

Nice to see that, despite him exceeding expectations amid the howls of derision when we bought him, he still gets knocked by the knockers.

  7. I still buy the ST, at weekends the Sun now and again for a light hearted read on the train in the mornings and get the Standard in the way home (the "Wifi" SWT offer is not fit for purpose and like others have said, no way can you rely on 3/4G).

Nothing like a balanced diet. Still, it explains a lot....

  8. The thing with Yoshida is about 90% of what he does is sound, but he ALWAYS screws up in a way which could easily lead to the opposition scoring. Today it was both a trip in the box, and passing the ball straight to the striker when he intercepted a through ball (by virtue of being out of position in the first place). Great that he scored, but he's not going to do that as often as he offers a chance at the other end.

True, but considering he's always played out of position he's gets a fair amount of unnecessary stick on here. He's a good squad player which is fine by me.

  9. It's one game. All I want to see from long is goals. If he can get 12 this season, which would be his best by far, then he's a good player to have. If it's another 7 goals max then its just not good enough.

Yep - that's purely how strikers should be judged - goals and goals alone. Jesus.

  10. Been saying it a long time, but it doesn't go down well because it seems so harsh. And it is, he's tried hard and done well for us, but he's a terrible number 10 and that's the role he often finds himself in. I'm not sure why being neat and tidy and trying hard is sufficient for so many people in that role. We usually have 2 defensive midfielders behind him so playing another ridiculously goal shy cautious player is frustrating. Add in a slow target man striker and erratic Tadic who doesn't like shooting and you have problems.

It was a problem before we lost Schneiderlin, before we lost Lallana and Lambert. Rodriguez, Lallana and Lambert were a superb three who all scored, but if they didn't, they weren't getting any help from the attacking midfielder Davis were they. I swear if we'd had a decent goalscoring no10 in front of Schneiderlin and Wanyama either of the last two seasons we'd have been top 5. But the investment and risk hasn't been there. Someone like Payet would have been perfect for the role, or you know, that Ramirez bloke. Many will defend Davis but come on, there is no comparison. Davis for me is a great squad option, the sort you'd want coming on to see out a game regularly, or back up in central midfield. If he must start, it should be in one of the two central midfield positions, competing with Wanyama, Clasie, Romeu, JWP and Reed.

  11. I don't want fracking, which is bound to result in pollution of my tap water and random plate tectonic activity, or something. I want the government to continue with maintenance of my 4 foreign holidays per year, my cheap gas central heating and enough diesel to run the small collection of German cars we have. I would also appreciate it if they could tell me what they think I want to hear and quietly deal with any trouble that might arise in securing this supply. If that ever involves a war, of course someone else can send their kids off to die in it. I don't want to know about the awful lives led by people of different ethnic origin in the horrible **** holes where all the oil and gas can come from. Of course I'm pro renewables, but not unreasonably I don't want wind turbines or solar panels to ever disturb any view I ever have, either at home or on holiday, even if it's just a small dot on the horizon. Ever. I want lots of cheap labour to wash my cars. I don't want them living near me though. That would mean building more houses on a field near me which I have allocated for an occasional theoretical idyllic dog walk. I want them magically transported in daily from the northern power house, but not by high speed train because that might involve a new train line running through the Cotswolds and I thought I might rent a holiday cottage there at some time in the future.

Basically I just want to consume, without any accountability whatsoever. And all the crap needs to happen somewhere else so that my property value is maintained.

    That's OK isn't it?

    Jesus Christ.

Spot on. I live in the Cotswolds. Full of ******s like this (or maybe that's just the southeast (i.e. Tories) in general). Take a drive through Woodstock and you can see NIMBY signs everywhere complaining about house building.

  12. I don't think its that mate. I think its that by and large most people that got to football these days, especially those that post on Internet forums are complete and utter helmets.

Although there is much wrong with modern football, the rise of the mongboard over the last 10-15 years has given even the most clueless dinlow a voice which provides me with endless hours of humour. reading the views of the self styled genius tacticians, motivational gurus, finance whizzes, physiotherapists, scouts, legal experts and so forth that inhabit this forum keeps me grounded good times and lifts my spirits in bad times. I'm never quite sure if this place excels itself in good times with the deluded ramblings of those who believe we are English Barcelona trapped in a stadium far too small for us or in bad times with the wrist slitting, everyone is sh*t hand wringing.

    This

  13. my views on Tadic are well known so I won't wind his supporters up any more except to say he has only started and finished the 90mins for us a total of 15 times in the Premiership. He has had 37 starts and been subbed 21 times. For me that is nowhere good enough for a player who costs what he did and who is our only true creative player.

How many assists and goals in that time? And how do those stats compare to similar players of similar market value from other clubs similar to us?

I don't know the answer to either of those questions but surely that would be a better assessment model than 'Fitzhugh Fella Good Enough Scale' you currently use. It may well be that he compares unfavourably - it would be interesting to know.

  14. The Gaston thing is very simple. We're paying him a lot of money and we have few attacking options at the moment to change things. He would be one of them, which he did at Liverpool in his only chance. I'd have him on the bench just to give a different option.

You may well be right about the academy players in general, but I'm pretty sure if MP had been here we'd have seen a lot more of Reed who showed promise in games he featured in last season. Targett got his chance early on and showed he's not up to it yet and I wouldn't expect many others to have got a chance, although with Rodriguez unavailable for so much I think it would be nice to see what Seager has to offer. My main disappointment though is it's a wasted season for so many of these players now. If Koeman doesn't rate them then that's fine, but at least get them out on loan to the Championship because Reed, Targett, Seager are not learning anything by playing for the U21s every week

Despite the clamour for him on here I wasn't impressed by Reed last year. Early days and hopefully he'll improve but strikes me that people are using him as a stick to beat Koeman with. Clasie has shown far more so far than Reed did last year.

Not sure why this is a wasted year for them either. They are in or around the 1st team. Being coached by a top half Premier League coaching team rather than an inferior one in the Champ/L1 and are training day in day out with international class players.

There are things that can be improved clearly but I'm always amazed by how quickly fans turn on the management (especially when we've been so successful). I think I'll put my trust in a European Cup winning player who played for Barcelona for 15 years while making 80 appearances for Holland rather than somebody who probably has zero experience of professional football.

  15. Pathetic result, awful to watch. We aren't likely to get a worse side visit St Mary's this season.

Koeman out of ideas it seems. Sick of Ramirez being ignored so crap like Davis and JWP can stroll around never scoring.

Something clearly very wrong. We're lacking anything to get excited about this season.

    Grow a pair, you fanny.
