Theres something about those single tier stadium, clubs get them and then lose all the advantage of their old stadiums. Probably because the front row is at least 10 yards from the pitch.
The Dell was great for atmoshpere and was a huge advantage for Saints. St Marys isnt. Theres no home advantage.
-
Scunny just won 4-0 away to Sheff Utd. Maybe Adkins was holding them back?
-
I've not questioned anything that NC has said or done but this has made me curious: "..a very high volume and quality of applications, the majority of which came from well respected managers currently working in the top two divisions of English football and abroad."
So, I want to know who are these Prem League managers that applied. It would be very dodgy for that statement to be factually incorrect.
I was told Avram Grant and Ian Holloway.
-
Strachan was a winner with Saints in the past and he could be a winner again !
He looked a broken man yesterday, spend the last half hour of the game sat on the dugout wall not saying a word.
-
I just found out the 2 prem managers who applied were Holloway and Grant (may have been discussed before) but I dont see them arriving even if they are chosen. If compensation cant be agreed with Scunny, theres no way the proper amount will be agreed with a prem team.

1. Because the man clearly has no ambition
2. Because he knew that he wasn't up to the job and would be found out
He went for the interview and something changed his mind between going to the interview and being offered the job.
I think its pretty clear what that would be.

The sooner people on this forum realise Cortese is an astute businessman with OUR common interest at heart the better, and that goes for jumped up northern monkey chairmen too!
If we kept on paying inflated prices because Cortese was a chump we'd soon not be a viable business and we'd end up like the blue few down the road!
Mr Cortese needs to be applauded! not driven away FFS
Rant Over.
Briatore was an astute businessman, it didnt stop him making QPR a laughing stock, interfering with team selection, alienating fans, refusing to pay compensation and then only being left with options like Dowie or Hart.
If anything, Cortese is worse than Briatore and it will get to a point where no half decent manager will work with him. Football is not like other businesses, you cant run your club like a tyrant because you will be blackballed.
QPR only started to recover once Briatore was ousted. Same goes for Saints and Cortese.
-
Now whats going to happen, clubs are not going to let Saints speak to their manager because they know pressure will be put on them to resign and the club will get no money. Whoever they approach now will know they arent 1st choice and may not be happy.
Saints may be stuck with going for an out of work manager. Magilton, Dowie, Hart etc.
-
Uncomfortably, Dowie has been mentioned to me
Dowie will accept the head coach offer and he had already worked under an Italian tyrant. If he does get it, hes in it for the money only and wont last the season.
-
QPR tried it but the DOF was just a buffer so Flavio could basically tell the DOF to tell the manager who to pick. I think it will be a similar situation with Cortese.
Good British managers wont stand for it. Even if one takes the job, he wont see out the season with the interference.
The telling sign will be if Saints appoint a manager or a 1st team coach. I think theyre screwed if its a coach and it will go tits up unless its a foreigner used to working that system.
-
Ian Holloway is the rumour from a QPR ITKer. Just thought Id pass it on.
-
someone from QPR
Rowan Vine is getting his contract paid off and will be available but he cant play until january if hes released. Saints would be better off trying to stop that and getting him on loan.
Agyemang is also listed and would be available too.
-
If it is Jimbo' date=' I think we'll need a poll as to which player he's going to have a fight with.[/quote']
It will be a small foreigner. When he headbutted Buzsacky, Agyemang stepped in and JM said "Do you want some?" and Agyemang stood up to him and said "Id like to see you try". JM then backed down.
He did the same at Ipswich too.
-
Same here, think Magilton would actually be an alright appointment.
Hes a total nutjob, has lost 2 jobs because of fighting with players.
He will play pretty passing football but has no plan b. If a team is going to shut up shop, expect a lot of draws.
Still, better than Hart though. Youll be playing a 631 at home to Rochdale trying to squeeze out a 1-0 win.
-
I would have thought Jim Magilton might have been linked with the job but haven't heard his name at all. Could do a decent job with his experience with muppet owners!!
yeah, Im sure going round headbutting and bullying players would be a great thing to happen after these rumours!
-
Oh ffs, we won't be getting Hart. Can't see him appealing to Cortese at all.
I can, hes the only guy that would accept a chairman picking the team and formation for him, any good manager would tell them where to go.
If he does sign, hed be nothing but a puppet, look for him to be on the phone during games as he gets instructions from above.
-
Sky sources confirm that Paul Hart is high on the list to take over at Southampton
what the ****
Hes the worst manager and most negative Ive ever seen! finished one game with 6 men at the back and got booed off despite winning 1-0.
If he gets it, Cortese is picking the team and Hart is just a puppet.
-
Something with Italians then!
who is your chairman now?
The guy in charge is Ishan Saksena and the money is coming from the Mittals so now its the Indians running the show.
Communication with the fans has also improved, prices came down, basically everything got better because we didnt have a megalomaniac in charge that made decisions by himself, fired people and ****ed off just about everyone else. There was a real bad feeling around the club with players, employees and fans really unhappy.
Ill tell you how pathetic it was, we had a black cat as a mascot, Italians dont like black cats so it was changed to a tiger who always got booed. The game after Flav left the mascot pulled out a mini black cat from his sleeve and got a big cheer, hed have been sacked for doing that if Flav was there.
I think the atmosphere is probably pretty similar at SMS.
-
It happened alot at QPR (i'm sure our resident QPR fan will pick me up on this if wrong) - they had a few Italian imports that the manager didn't scout. It's the European scouts that give the heads up on these sort of things, and luckily Cortese has a few links at Italian clubs and with Italian agents.
I look at us now and see '''QPR'' - i remember thinking what nutters they were when they kept changing managers and expecting instant success. Thankfully they've toned down a bit now.
The manager wasnt in charge of signing players, Flav the control freak was in charge and the similarities to NC are clear to see. He got such a bad reputation that Paul Hart was the only manager who would accept the job. Its no coincidence that Flav leaving and Warnock arriving has seen us go to the top of the table.
I dont think Saints will go anywhere until NC is gone, a puppet manager wont be any good and a good manager will have lots or argument with him over control of the club and signings.
Saints now have the reputation QPR had a year ago, a total nutter in charge.
-
This seems very reminiscent of Flav at QPR, he was a control freak over everything, even the little things. Eventually he wanted a say in buying players and the selection and formation.
When the manager stood up to him, he got sacked. Then he bought in a puppet manager of a low calibre as no decent manager would take the job knowing they werent in charge.
I think the same thing will happen here, we will see soon. The only way the club got back on track is when Flav left, I think the same is true with NC and Saints.
-
I am pleased...
Number 8 slot is still available i see...
Rowan Vine wore 8 for QPR, we are trying to cancel his contract. Maybe saints are waiting for that to happen before signing him.
Maybe it could be for Agyemang whos been transfer listed.
-
no, it wouldn't surprise me, as much as it wouldn't surprise me if you added Man City as the EPL's biggest spender.
How do you quantify your rip off comment?
Clubs play the players agent to negotiate a deal, surely the players agent is employed by the player so he should take a cut of whatever the player gets.
Agents should be banned from the sport or the FA should appoint them and they would be neutral
-
I know it's a long shot but I have always like Jason Roberts of Blackburn. He hasn't been given a squad number for the season and Sam Allardyce said in a TV intervie that it is time for him to part with the club but that he was surprised by the lack of interest in the player.
I know he's a Premiership striker but it's worth a shout maybe?
QPR turned him down because he wanted a 3+ year contract and 30k a week. The reason why theres a lack of interest is that hes an NPC calibre player but wants Prem wages.
-
Rowan Vine.
Also why does he have to be a back up....why cant we play 2 big lumps up front in some games?
Rumours are hes going to an L1 club after the club pay him off.
Aygemangs available too.
So just who DO you support?
in The Saints

Having had the misfortune to see him play last season, albeit for 45 mins and then he never played again. He is awful, cant run, tackle or pass.
I think Saints need 2 or 3 experienced no nonsense type of players.
