  1. in the late 80's they tried third bottom in the league above played 3rd place team in the league below with the winners either going up or staying up. That was harsh, at least the teams finishing in the play offs in it current format have nothing to lose.

A league system would be fairer with each team 3-6 playing each other home and away or once a a neutreal venue and the team finishing top goes up but the extra games would probably mean it'll never happen. I like the play offs anyway, they are exciting and mean that everyone from 5th-12th still have something to play for come the last month of the season. It's great if you win them, horrible if you lose in them, as we well know, but thats football, for every winner there is plenty of losers.

Something similar happens in the lower Scottish leagues with the 2nd from bottom playing 2nd 3rd & 4th for the second promotion place as only 1 club the champion is guaranteed promotion.

  2. I have, thankfully, recently got back into the industry I was working in before the crash/recession which led to me being laid off over two years ago. During that time I have really struggled to find a decent permanent job and for the last year I was working in a call centre environment for a ISP which was starting to drive me insane because it was so tedious and repetitive. This new job couldn't have come at a better time (well, actually, it could have come two years ago which would have helped) and due to the business model being all about targeting small/medium sized businesses and actually saving them money on their voice/data system bills, the company is actually doing really well out of the recession so the job should be very secure.

You do have my sympathy though SNSUN. I know exactly how it feels to wake up every morning and think "F**king hell, have I got to go back to that f**king place again!?" and it's really not funny because it has a drastic negative effect on not just your attitude to work, but all other aspects of your life as well. I hope you manage to escape the cycle soon.

Been there hated going to work every day, always stressed, excessive hours, causing arguments with the wife, and when the company decided my position was going to be made redundant, but I could apply for another position within the company, that the duties that I hated were identical, but paying 6K a year less without the pension benefits. I was informed that if I did not get the position I would be made redundant. Told them I was not in the right frame of mind and needed to go on gardening leave, it was 5 weeks to the interview, has a long talk with the wife, came back on the day of the interview and told them I was going to take the redundanc (god were they shocked with that). Took 6 weeks off and started to look for a job and got one (not as much pay) in 2 weeks and was really happy with that job.

  3. Amazing that they make this mistake over and over again.

Surely the obvious thing to do (rather than lengthening the pool) is build the touch-sensitive panel into the tiling...

Funny first thing I thought was that as well

  4. I often wondered about that, plus if you post on here under a stupid meaningless name like mine it's surely impossible to prove who posted it anyway.

They could only possibly prove what computer was used not who was actually using it.

Unless of course the club bring pressure to name the culprit, what would you do take charge yourself with the associated ban perhaps from the club or let the suspected perpetrator or person who is signed up under that name take the charge.

If somebody is stupid enough to make defamatory remarks they should man up and take any punishment due.

Speaking of films, has anyone seen The Room? It's hilariously bad, it's got a huge cult following in the US and screenings will sell out in hours of going on sale! There are roughly 5 sex scenes within the first 20 minutes of the film as well (it's not a porno).

  6. I think this a really sound post. I can see where Benji's post was coming from but the problem is Benji is that whilst some people (you and Minty for example) have the intelligence and wherewithal to make a balanced decision taking into account your prejudices, which we all have, versus the other significant factors, others will just abuse the freedoms that a lack of discrimination protection would give them. Let's face it, there are a few people on this site we can think of where that would be the case. That's not a society that most of the UK would want to live in. There are one or two football clubs that were strongly rumoured in the past not to sign or develop black players - so AOC, Theo or Danny Wallace wouldn't have got a chance if it were their major local club irrespective of talent. If we had no discrimination laws, we'd be back to the bad old days of "suss" by the Police and Courts, and half the population would be consciously excluded from reaching their potential and enriching our workplaces and communities based on ignorance and fear whipped up by uninformed media outlets, by race, disability, gender etc. Of course, the anti-discrimination laws themselves must be applied with common sense.

With regard to this, it seems that we still haven't done enough to change the habits of young male drivers, after all, if we did that we wouldn't to offer cheaper insurance for more responsible young female drivers in the first place. One way might be to restrict the driving age to 21, some of the worst cases of irresponsible driving fatalities seem to be teenagers.

What upset me is not the anti discrimination but the positive discrimination, where if you are part of a minority group, you are guaranteed an interview for a job regardless if you are qualified for the job just because they are part of a minority group, but because I am a white Anglo Saxon with all the correct qualifications and relative experience, my CV gets thrown in the bin. Everybody should be given a chance based on their abilities.

On discrimination and insurance how long will it be before somebody aged 17 claims that they are being age discriminated against them and we all end up paying £1000 a year again lining the insurance companies pockets because "they do not want to upset an EU lawmakers".

  7. Given that we are apparently staying up north for the Hartlepool game, if I were Adkins I would get the whole squad checking out Tuesday's oppo by taking them to Hartlepool v McDons at Victoria Park today. What could be more sensible?

    With you on that one

  8. Surely you remember the rules from our points deduction? They were engraved on my heart.

There is a fixed date --before it the deduction happens immediately regardless of how many points you have at that time.

After it, the deduction happens the next season unless applying it immediately would cause relegation, in which case, that is what happens. We went into administration just after the date, so the points came off next season because we were relegated anyway. If we hadn't been relegated anyway they'd have come off in-season to make sure were relegated.

Of course with any further (unlikely in my view) Pompey points deduction it won't be for administration as such anyway ..they've had that punishment. The authorities can be pretty much as nasty as they want for other deductions. Look at what they did to Luton and others.

That is not the correct interpretation, the deduction will apply in the season that the reason for point deduction occurs (i.e. Administration), if you are 11 points above the relegation zone and you survive you are ok and have taken your deduction, no points deduction next season. If the point taken off take you into the relegation zone, you are relegated. If you are relegated without the points deduction being added, you are relegated and the points deduction is given at the start of next season as we were.

This rule was bought in because Leeds were already relegated and went into admin when they knew they were down to avoid the deduction that would have relegated them or have the deduction next season if they went into admin after the season finished.

  9. Just go donw to Adsa's buy a pair of fancy shoes and then go to Christian Louboutin and steal a couple of labels from his shoes

and then stick labels in Asda shoes. She will not know the difference .

be careful you dont get caught when you peel away the christian labels

Trouble is according to the wife they all have red soles so, TDD's missus would spot they were not Christian Louboutin

  10. Join groups such as LinkedIn. You'll be able to see what others do in the profession you are interested in and the different styles of CVs. Otherwise take heed of Saint si's reply and you will not go wrong.

If you get an interview, then the hard work starts so don't be lazy and do nothing. Research the company/division, latest news of that field/expertise.

Also, dependent on what sort of professional work you entering, you may want to get family/friends to think of some tough questions and see how you would handle them - try and get to a position, provide some evidence, any benefits and a short positive conclusion. If you're unsure of the quesion, instead of intimating you don't know/cannot understand the question, restate the question "I believe you're asking ..." as it shows you were listen but may not of got the interpretation correct.

If you get nervous, use the compose cycle: accept reaction, change posture, breathe deep and slowly, get comfortable, regain confidence.

Always remember that an interview is a 2 way exchange of views, so do not let it get to them just asking you questions, favourites of mine is "Why should I come and work for you" and "If I am successful, what opportunities for career progression will there be with your company.

As someone who has has to plough through CV's make the font easy to read, Hit them hard with relevant info at the Top (i.e. in a Profile and then followed by quick Achievements section).

In the Education section Promote your degree and mark if its a good one, but at schools and college just mention 4 A levels and subjects but do not mention marks unless it is really relevant. Same with GCSE's. No more than 2 pages but preferably one. Sir John Harvey Jones the business guru only had a 1 page CV with all his experience.

  11. I guess this thread proves that people will always agree / disagree on many different topics, especially when it is something "un-natural" or that goes against the grain. It's not that long ago that I faced similar when my children came to live alone with me, I faced predjuces from areas such as social services and the courts as a man raising kids alone was not the done thing, had to prove that i was capable, this led to me calling everyone in a meeting sexist as woman were not treated how i was. As a result of my case (and a few others) the law changed in 2001 which basically gave dads just as much rights as mothers, and if the mother was no longer around or incapable of raising the child then the father didnt have to go through barriers that i did.

I find that strange, because when I had divorced parents in 1972, I stayed with my father and we had none of these issues, perhaps things have got less tolerant rather than more tolerant.

  12. And apart from anything else the bullying and ridcule at school a child of a gay couple will be subject too should be enough to put most gay couples adopting should be enough to put them off, if they care about the child that is and are not trying to make a statement about themselves.

Their child will be fortunately be rich enough to be bought up in an environment that bullying probably will not occur, unfortunately the same could not be said for a child in similar circumstances that will be attending your local comprehensive school.
