Let's look at it this way. If we hadn't taken the offer from Villa, Ings's services for the next season would have cost us over £20m. And that's on top of his wages.
I like your thinking which I suspect is not far off the mark.

Put another way, his annual salary is £3.38million. Obscene.
I think that this is the way that player earnings should be quoted. Saying that their wage is x amount per week is nigh on meaningless. It dates back to when people were paid weekly and a player's wage bore some connection to average wages. Who the heck is paid weekly these days. Annual salary is the way to go when discussing players' earnings

Thought he'd moved on to spreading his wisdom to the outfield players, which in itself might be a part of the wider problem.
Didn't we bring another GK coach to take on that role, Sparks ?
Agree that we should be trawling Spain, Italy and Germany for a replacement.
Aaron Ramsdale impressed me every time I have seen him play

Armstrong then JWP

If Sturgeon has her way it couldn't happen anyway. Scotland would be an independent country so inviting Rangers and Celtic join the English clubs would be the equivalent of inviting PSG or Real Madrid to join .... wouldn't it?

Is wiping your nose in an opponents shirt allowed? Just asking like.
imho if it’s outside the box it’s a foul inside not going to be given.
Not under COVID rules 🙂

It's been said before on here, but I'll say it again. The guy had Covid. Even when you're over the sickness, your energy levels can be down for months afterwards. We saw with Armstrong that it can take a while to get back to the level needed for Premier League football
Indeed - it can take months for some people to recover from covid.

Great result in the circumstances. Possibly our most important point of the season psychologically. Up to 30 points.
My MotM is Djenepo, but special mention to Salisu.
Agree

Ings may be suffering from after effects of Cov19 plus mental pressure due to contract negotiations and transfer speculation as well as lack of service up front. Players seem to struggle on the pitch when in the thick of contract talks esp if there is a chance they may leave at some point .
COVID 19 is nasty (understatement of the thread) and it can debilitate anyone - even young fit footballers. If Danny was still suffering the after effects then it is no surprise that he was not at his sharpest

It would be nice to think that fans wouldn’t fall for the player letting us down bullshit this time. The ‘good’ offer highlighted by Adam Blackmore suggests we haven’t offered a great deal and Hassenhutl’s chat about not relying on Danny Ings shows you the internal reality. He’s likely to go because his value is not appreciated or affordable to the bean counters.
We are in a financial hole, the commercial department is at best average so money isn’t going to be flooding in to help fund player wages so we need to sell the key assets, which are players. It’s naive to think otherwise.
Best case scenario would be selling the club to someone either willing to invest in areas that don’t impact financial fair play therefore ‘freeing’ up money for football or one with some genuine commercial gumption rather than the current team at the helm. Preferably both.
If you do go Danny, you go with my best wishes. You gave the club what they needed, we fans have had a genuine hero for a bit. You deserve a shot at achievement that you won’t get here.
A Telegraph article this morning suggests that money is not the issue - rather it is that he wants to play for a chamions league team.

He was the most outstanding of the youngsters but I did not think that any of them let themselves down. Yes, there were times when they needed to be stronger on the ball but that will come with experience at that level. I was quite encouraged by the talent coming through

With all the matches now being televised there is more time devoted to the match pundits and their comments !
I cannot remember the last time a former Saint was used in our recent matches. Sky have sacked MLT, Benali seems to have disappeared now as well and there are no others that I can recall !
I'm discounting the likes of Andy Townsend because his main career was elsewhere.
So now we have great performances like last night and have to listen to the one-sided views of Carragher !
I am right on this or just being paranoid ??
As Woody Allen said "Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they are not out to get you.😉

Now Burnley have been successfully taken over and have been promised 100m to spend this month.. why are saints no closer to a take over by American businessman Joseph degrosa..? Is gao wanting to sell or finally invest in saints ?
From what I have read, mostly on here, Degrossa would be a worse option than Gao who at least does not interfere with the running of the club

Not sure what half of you expect? And a reality check I think. It’s obvious our squad isn’t deep enough to sustain us in the top six. We are good, very good at present and it’s a well earned point, could have been three. When you get upset about that game maybe think back to life under puel and pellegrino.. honestly some of you need your head examined.
Well said!

Thought Diallo looked very good in the short time he was on the pitch. Ok, the game was won but he showed enough to suggest he's going to be a big player for us. He made himself available, controlled the ball first touch, passed and moved and generally looked very accomplished. Looking forward to seeing more from him.
I agree.

Southampton
- Moussa Djenepo (101 mistakes) - Mistake every 5 minutes
- Nathan Redmond (60 mistakes) - Mistake every 5 minutes 29 seconds
- James Ward-Prowse (153 mistakes) - Mistake every 6 minutes 28 seconds
If this is what fans choose to focus on then it surely comes as no surprise that we have performed far better with no fans in the stadium!

Yeah, Djenny seemed utterly resistant to running at his opponent...... But that's what he does..... Maybe an instruction to play it safe?
And Alex was on fire.I have the imprression that Djenapo is doing what he is being asked to do but it stifles his natural instinct to run with the ball at opponents. Perhaps he is is still coming to terms with the balance between defence and attack

Marginal gains at that age. Do you have anyone in mind that went from having poor technique to good technique (bearing in mind that I'm only talking about his ball striking/finishing and nothing else)? You can usually spot whether a player has good control or shooting from their first handful of appearances.
and never change your mind thereafter

Mmmm nice. Chelsea, Spurs, Man City, Man U, Arsenal, West Ham all below us. I will enjoy it while it lasts🙂
