Sorry, I know there's a thread on the story of KD signing for Saints on a 3 year deal today but I thought it was right to start a new one, given the fact we're all now wondering what the next piece of good news is going to be and may forget this... but, Kelvin Davis today parked a good contract and £s to stay loyal to Southampton FC in League 1. That doesnt happen much in football these days and I think it is the most significant moment of a historic day. I know he'll play more often and may be captain more here than in Premiership West Ham. But, it is a statement worthy of real praise. We witnessed real loyalty today. What a Saint! A player genuinely proud to wear the shirt. I am proud of one of our players for the first time in a long time. Genuinely proud. Kelvin Davis. Saints legend in the making. Anyone else agree?

My thoughts exactly... but he has a house down here and is a legend here really. If KD can show unbelieveable loyalty then can WGS?

Agreed. But, I think its a fantasy to believe he'll be the one... its too good to be true.

As I say, I think he'd be good in League 1 for us. But, what's the point in putting in a guy who most fans view as being disloyal and a mate of Lowe (even though I have it on good authority he was no friend of Rupert)? He's divisive, but good. Oldknow knows this.

I think Jones knew he was rewarding his boss' (Lowe not Fry) mate by sanctioning this contract on the off chance the old regime may still have a man in the camp, and an influential one at that, but under the more than likely scenario he'd be sacked and the new guys would thus have to reward him financially for being their stooge this year.

He left because Lowe failed to back him when he warned him that the team was higher in the league than it deserved to be without reinforcement. At the time we badly needed a midfield and Lowe looked at us high in the table and thought he knew better. WGS left soon after for a hip operation... sorry, but Lowe put him off, as well as all the other decent managers we had.

My guess is Oldknow will know that Hoddle is about as popular as a fart in an astronaut suit in Southampton and wont be recommending him. That said he would be OK in League 1 IMHO.

Not getting into an argument on this as frankly right now I am ecstatic that we're about to get a decent manager... and Hoddle would do a decent job... but I think your stats may be a little bit ambitious there Dalek
