  1. Middlesex are comfortably below us and also won't get anything out of this game, so I think we'll be fine. We've also still got to play Warwickshire, who look utterly hopeless and just want the season to end. They could be relegated this week depending on how the other games finish.

You're probably right, I'm still traumatised by Worcestershire stealing the County Championship from us in '74 when our game against Yorks got totally rained off and they had a shady 1 day slog game on the 3rd day and got 10 points.

  2. Everton fans are calling for Koeman's head after they got massacred by Tottenham. They haven't won away since January, Koeman's obligatory signing from the Dutch league is said to be totally pants and they can't score for toffee (pun intended).

they must have had one of the toughest starts ever though. City, Chelsea,Spurs and I think it's Utd either this week or next isn't it?

That said I just don't see the point of Klaesen though, doesn't look anywhere near the level required for the PL, same as Clasie I suppose. His instance with Martina in nearly all games is most surprising, thought he'd just signed him as a cheap cover player really.

  3. Bit extreme after 4 games, especially when the replacement is Roy Hodgson.

No doubt the majority on here will be calling for Les to do the same at 2.30pm on Saturday when Palace register their first points of the season against us.

What was extreme was appointing him in the first place. No sane chairman should have overlooked the total Milan disaster. FdB is obviously nothing more than an Eredivisie coach.

  4. Makes you wonder whether it would have been better to have flogged VVD and forked out the 70 mill into seriously rebuilding this shower, at least half the side are not up to the job and now we are stuck with them.

I am not going to blame the manager.................. Just yet.

No question really, we should have sold him for anything over 60 million payable in a reasonable time. As we've seemingly been sold to a group with not much readies then we need to go back to selling to finance top notch offensive players instead of buying bang average players like Boufal.

  5. This, and if they don't step up soon Pellegrino will have to set up to keep a clean sheet and hope for a lucky goal, just like Puel ended up doing.

Sounds like a top plan actually, winning 1-0 is by far better than losing 5-4. All sport is about winning, it's the name of the game, if you want entertainment go to the cinema.

  6. I don't think he's going to cut it, I really don't. Obviously has skill and can beat a man but more is required to succeed at this level like knowing when to pass and being able to compete physically.

If you look at an average Ligue 1 day you'll see that every side has at least 1 Boufal like player, Newcastle bought a shedload of them and now they're all back playing in Marseille, Troyes at St Etienne. They flatter to deceive because while it looks like Roy of the Rovers stuff on occasions, there is virtually no end product to it.

  7. Absolutely, as I've said before we are an average side throughout and we get average results. Want better results ? Sign better than average players for higher than average fees. Football is about that these days, the best sides spend the most money and everybody else is just well, average.

  8. The manager isn't the problem. It wasn't last season either.

Correct. A manager can only do so much. No matter how he lays out the game plan, if the players can't follow it it makes no difference. We needed to sell Van Dijk and buy some real class at the sharp end.

  9. Not to knock Boufal necessarily, but who's the last player to actually 'come good' after we all used the phrase?

It might be true that he'd benefit from games, but he won't get picked until he impresses in training and/or as a substitute, which is exactly how it should be. If Tadic continues to be ineffectual he might drop out but not after a couple of games.

Mané had a bit of a difficult start I believe.

  10. Abbott was the only bad (awful) player. 40 runs off his 3 overs, and out first ball. He was the difference between the 2 sides.

Highly likely, he's just not a 1 day bowler, might have been in the past, don't know about that but he goes for 40 ish every time now.

  11. Nope, no move at all. Be interesting to see what happens in January...

In fact Valence did sign (on loan) what to me would appear a similar sort of player from PSG. Perhaps Atletico and/or Vietto were too greedy or both. Could be that the bloke from PSG had a better agent or that PSG were willing to offer far more subsidies.

  12. I reckon he would have gone if Chelsea or City (or anyone else bar Liverpool) came in with a £75m bid

But they didn't, probably because that's far more than they'd be willing to pay. Bloke needs to reboost his value in the eyes of other clubs if he wants to get a big money move eventually. For the time being he's a trouble maker who's not played for about 6 months. Still reckon we'll never see the same sort of money that Liverpool would have given us.
