Not sure who that question is aimed at, but personally I would like to think that a top quality international team would have better striking options than either of them.

He thinks Welbeck is a much better player than Lambert, that probably tells you all you need to know.

'I see Fred as a Brazilian lambert, obviously way better though. Essentially what I'm getting at is Fred isnt the most mobile, has a good touch, finish and vision all traits we tend to agree lambert has. Also he's only a year and a bit younger than rickie. So if phil scolari thinks that sort of player is effective at 'international' level then why doesn't woy think similar?'

As a young 15/16 yo nipper I learnt a valuable lesson one night game against Chelsea and ended up going home in my socks, with a fat lip and a head ache whilst some cockney went home with my new trainers!

Forget the 80's - it was the mid to late 70's that things were really dodgy. The dockers in the west stand (archers end) represented a distinctly intimidating section. The Milton Road end was mainly full of gobby youths (like me but a bit older), and everyone migrated en-masse to the archers to be by the away fans in the early '80's. I do remember some frequent unpleasantries in Hill Lane after matches. It all seemed perfectly normal at the time, but looking back now it was absolutely ridiculous. Mind you, if I see a programme showing people smoking indoors or on planes now I can't believe we all actually thought it was fine at the time.

Although Alpine does post a lot of stuff that winds me up, he hasn't said anything on this thread that is nonsensical or out of place has he? I think some people jump on his posts just for the sake of it (although describing Ramirez as the Uruguayan Darren Anderton was definitely an attempt to press some buttons).

That aside, am I alone in feeling a tad uncomfortable with the whole premise of this thread? It only seems like yesterday that we didn't have a pot to pi $$ in, so worrying about £30m not being enough seems a bit crass. Dortmund didn't spend that much to go from also rans to Champions League finalists did they?

It happened to me 31 years ago,it is absolutely heart breaking and my thoughts go sincerely to Richard and his family. You do not ever get over it,you just have to deal with it in any way that you can. I would also like to commend Rickie Lambert for his magnificent gesture,he is a lovely,caring guy.
