  1. also 1st is better than 2nd duh!!! really some people.

    What a stupid comment.

4th is only better than 5th because losing over 2 legs leads to the Europa League (min 6 games). If it wasnt for that, 5th would be better than 4th (min. 6 games vs 2 games)

  2. I'm not sure. Finish 4th and get knocked out of the first home/away leg and that might be curtains. I've tried looking this up and gave up because my head started hurting too much.

From reading these it appears to me that 4th place gets you into the play-off round where the winners go through to the Champions League group phase and the losers go into the Europa Cup. So 4th would guarantee Europa League as a minimum plus an extra home/away tie. At least, that's how it was for this season.:suspicious:

OK, then 4th is clearly better than 5th. I wasnt aware of this.

  3. Don't really understand this mentality. I'll be gutted if we don't make the Champions League. We've shown we're good enough over 22 games, why not over 38? Will we ever have a better chance?

    Prefer 5th to 4th, personally.

  4. I think JRod and Mane play pretty much the same role in the same way, so only one of them, which has to be JRod on proven ability over time.

    *scratches head*

I prefer a proven eye for goal this season for someone who hasnt kicked a ball in anger, personally.

  5. Come on, how long does it take to decline a party by SMS ?

I've taken one of my kids to parties several times where half the kids dont turn up and its heartbreaking seeing the birthday kids and parents faces alike.

If they knew this kid wasnt coming, they had time to invite another.

Invoicing and small-claims court does seem a bit OTT though.

  6. Collegue at work,(who I haven't seen in a long while) came up to me a few minutes ago and said, 'You were lucky yesterday. Mind you, you were lucky against us at Christmas.'

I stood there looking at him blankly

    'Are you alright?' he asked.

'Yes, sorry pal. I was just a bit boggled thinking that Reading are the bottom of the Championship and we haven't played them since 2012, but then it dawned on me........You're supporting Chelsea again.'

I think he's gone off for a poo and a cry.

    Everyone else laughed.

    And i'm a funny f...eller, apparently.:lol::lol::lol:

    Priceless

  7. City are the only side we've faced this season who comprehensively outplayed us. Every other defeat has been close run, and in most cases either unlucky or against the run of play. I'm not holding my breath.

See, I really dont understand this.

My recollection is that we went 1-0 down against City, but conceeded the others by pushing so hard to get back into the game. The result looks like a thumping but flatters a bit.

In addition, they were the first "big" team we played, and are champions, and I reckon we got star-struck. Since then we've made mugs out of Chelsea, butt-f**ked Arsenal (which appears to have been forgotten) and humilliated the other side of Manky-town, in Manky-toewn. Our players are battle-hardened and no longer a bunch of metaphorical giggling teenage autograph-hunters.

I fancy us to get 3rd and push for second. We are more likely to screw up against the likes of QPR.

  8.

Also, did Sunderland not wear red and white versus Newcastle this season?

    Edit: Yes they did.

It is a bit strange, I can only suggest that the pitch of the stripes, the darkness of the red or the herringbone pattern inside the red on our kit plays some sort of role.

  9. A month/6 weeks ago I'd have said no chance, ahead of that fixture run (and during the run of defeats). I didn't see us with a strong enough squad with the injuries we had, to sustain ourselves over the Christmas period particularly. But amazingly, we did. We got a good result at Palace, did well against Everton, held Chelsea and beat Arsenal. That's a pretty epic Christmas by anyone's standards.

So, of course we now have a chance. That horrible run of fixtures are done. We don't face anything like that again. We have a run of fixtures which are doable, not straight forward, but we can go on a run from here.

So, 12th January 2015 - Southampton are on 39 points and 3rd in the PL, with the horrible run of fixtures out of the way. I honestly don't think we'll ever have a better chance of gatecrashing the party.

    This.
