Any idea if he travelled over or withdrew before? Hopefully stayed here for recovery rather than faffing around in Heathrow departures queues

Maybe he had to withdraw due to being stuck in Heathrow departure queues.

I was asking which inexperienced players he improved, as you well know!

He didn't say that, he said "I always had faith in Koemans ability to improve inexperienced players."

Hebrews 1:1 "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."

The thing i like about this photo is that it looks like Rory is winding up for another long throw and is about to launch Liam into orbit

  4. So which one of you funsters is actually taking over the club then? I keep getting disappointed to click on this thread and see new billionaire/yacht/tyre-kicker news. I mean even that blue crowd down the motorway managed to have an entire owner who didn't exist once. Can't we at least make something up?

The FA would not allow such a name change.

Given the MK Dons precedent they MIGHT allow it *if* we also relocated to a large river basin in South America

Think at the time, as you said, Timmy was fucking brilliant and we were gutted to lose him, same for Bridge, but maybe losing a LB isn't the same as losing a striker or goalie. Ironically, most people felt losing Shearer wasn't a massive deal at the time considering  the money we got for him.

For me, when Bridge went we also effectively lost, or seriously downgraded, both Marsden and Beattie. Marsden was never the same without Bridge doing the overlaps and a lot of Beattie's effectiveness came from Bridge's crosses. Ings bangs the goals in so has to be regarded as more important, but Bridge was about more than just Bridge at the time. Or my memory is poor. Very possible.

Arsenal did to us what we did to Norwich. Both teams played at a similar level of intensity, but there was a clear gulf in class on display.

This sums it up better than anything I've read. When we played Norwich it was like playing a medium-level Championship side after the first 10 mins. Arsenal did the same to us today.

And it really does kind of feel like a pre-season friendly somehow. The pace/intensity just isn't there, from us or most of the teams I've seen so far.

  8. He has allowed Valery to thrive because Valery doesn’t have to think about leaving himself exposed when he ventures up the pitch.

This is a really good point. If you lose JWP is there a danger of also losing Valery, at least in terms of effectiveness if not actually leaving?

  9. Armstrong has looked like the only player in the squad able to offer a goal-threat from midfield

Getting a little MLG here, sorry, but 2019 goal scorers in the league (most recent at top)

    Ward-Prowse

    Valery

    Ward-Prowse

    Valery

    Ward-Prowse

    Romeu

    Stephens

    Redmond

    Ward-Prowse

    Ward-Prowse

    OG

    Ward-Prowse

    Long

I'm thinking there's another midfielder there who might be offering a goal-threat.
