  1. i think Jrod, he was awesome last night, held ball up well, bossed Lovren all over the place and created the space at back post for Redmond to score from ( who could have had 4 goals last night defo one of his better displays ), showed some wonderfull touches, good vision to see runs. should defo be JRod starting for me, starting to show some form and always looks dangerous around the box and in it, think he could be a top player again if he can get a good solid run under his belt

  2. Thought I'd do a check to look at the total possible mins (Europa & League) v actual v current average performance rating from Whoscored - https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/18

Interesting that we only have 3 players rated higher than 7 (Virg, Charlie and Sof) and Virgil is the freak of our team both in performance and outfield players endurance (He has played 1709 mins out of a possible 1800 mins so only missed 91mins!!!)

    Some of the other players:

Oriol played 1632mins in total so missed 168mins

Redmond played 1582mins in total so missed 218mins

    Davo has missed 5 games

    Pierre has missed 10 games

Jay Rod has missed 14 games in total !!

It then leads me to ask if Puel is pushing the "rotation is important for rest and recovery" routine then why does Virgil hardly ever get rotated out of any Euro/PL games ?

You either rest your players and make the changes or you don't, yet him and Romeu are basically playing every game they can, Claude can't have it both ways.

There should be a hell of a pick up in the 2nd half of the season given some of the minutes a lot of our key players have rested.

Also for the JWP has been playing better this season "he's one of ours so have to pump up his tyres" bias, he is currently averaging 6.58 (both Europe/PL), the previous 3 seasons he averaged 6.55/6.65/6.62.

I know these are just "stats" but stats are the only metrics we have to use for a factually based discussion rather than "individual interpretation".

Good post, but a bit unfair on a bit time player, No player is going to find any form when he is not in a settled side, its important for JWP to play consistantly like it is for most players, and this is why we have no form, players need to create an understanding with each other, u cant just stick random players together and expect them to hit form, Apart from a few players we have been poor, even Davis is not at his normal level of consistancy we have seen since he has been here, only players starting regular are playing well ( But forster but i think thats more down to the defence being unsettled ).

  3. The captain should be one of the first names on the team sheet. JWP hasn't earned the captaincy yet.

I would say he has, he is not our worst Mid this season, he is not the best either ( OR is ), but being captain might raise his game as he will wear the arm band with pride like Steven Gerrard did for Liverpool, JT / Lampard for chelsea.

    Prowse? As captain? Jesus.

He does a great job being Captain of England under 21's.

In the modern game, no player has one club at heart. They may start out that way, but sooner or later, money takes over and loyalty goes out of the window. They're all mercenaries.

not always, Only reason why Stven gerrard left liverpool was cause he was told he wouldnt get game time, fair enough reason to move, Same for JT and Lampard, JT turned down huge money to stay at Chelsea, and 1st team football, but he is Chelsea in every way, he loves the club and has always stated so and refused big money to leave even though he might not have got a new contract at chelsea.

Youth players give a team heart, passion and commitment, even more so if they supported the club from childhood, not saying other players dont, as some give 110 % always, but its more common to see more emotion , determination and desire from players who love the club they are playing at.

  4. Davis or VVD, however if VVD wants to leave too it may well be someone like Prowsey the way the club is being run at the moment.

I would want one of the young Saints fans from the youth team, think it'll be better for the club in the long term to have some one who loves the club being captain. I like VVD he will probs get it, but with his future not being 100 % it dont make sense to make some one captain who might be gone by start of next season any way.

I would Love prowsey or maybe Sims / Reed / Mcqueen just any 1 really that is Southampton FC at heart, But Prowsey would be first choice out of the youngsters i would say.

VVD would be a great captain, would put him top choice and is currently 2nd choice after Fonte anyway so i think it'll be VVD with Prowsey as Captain in his absence.

  5. i know we are better run than we was when we got relegated, but most of are income comes from selling players and tv money, if Lowe had the same resources, would it have happened if he had 100 + million tv money? dont think it would have, i dont hold nothing aginats current owner and im greatfull they took over the club and brought us back to where we are now, but to suggest no other owner could do so, go and ask Bmouth how they managed league 2 to prem in just a little longer than we did ( with out huge investment ) and try tell me are owners are some how miles better than any one else's.

  6. perfectly sums up the problem a lot of our fans have.... delusions of grander and no PERSPECTIVE

'Couldn't finish 2nd in a group we were we was far far favs for' So now we are better than Milan and Champions league regulars Sparta Prague? Deluded!

If the club adopted your business model of 'letting them rott' we would already be playing championship football. Nothing good comes of making a player stay why can people see that?

Why cant you see that its the clubs model and decisions that have got us to where we are in a ridiculously short pace of time? I guess you believe these things just happen. Be leave it or not we are the envy of the the majority of teams and are perceived as a well run club that go about things the right way, with great academy, good scouting etc

Again I agree things need to improve but people wanting the board to sell the club and the manger to go after a few bad results are embarrassing and coming across as spoilt children.

I don't remember this anger towards the manager after Koeman failing to get us into Europe (against genuine european minows!), the awful run he had in November/ December and a 6-1 hammering in a league cup 1/4 final. Short memory's

you trying to say west brom are a poorly run club? how do you figure that considering they are the only club in the midlands to make profit last few years with out selling top stars have a less income than Saints, and laid out more on transfers than Saints ( Remember we have in theory spent 0 on transfers as we always end the transfer window in profit from Sales ).

I dont want the club to sack the manager, would rather he stayed and proved to be a good manager, but if i am dissapointed in the way we are playing then frustrations are going to show, and as it seems we have a few players who are also unhappy with the managers style, tactics and resting or what ever it seems fans are not the only ones concerned?, Never in a million years woud i want KL to sell the club, but, if she does not want the club, then its best she sells to the right buyer which i know she will try her best to do.

as you seem to think selling are best players every year to make a profit is good, remind us how we got relegated to championship? was it from selling are best players? yep, did we need to? yep, are we in the same situation now? Yep, so what has really changed from Saints in 15 years? nothing, we got relegated and got back to where we belong, trying to say any other owners would not have managed this with one of the best acadamys ( Take note some of are best players had been brought through the youth before ML took over the club ( EG Lallana, Bale, Walcott and list is quite big tbh ) in the UK is daft, remember we have been producing top players for a long long time, before ML even thought about buying a football club.....

We was the favs to win are group, i know cause i placed a bet on it as we was favs to win the group just like we was favs to win every single home game, and was expected to win or draw away from home, are hardest game was against sparta, are easiest game was meant to be H beer sheva and the biggest fixture was inter and they are hardly a force in todays game, if any thing they are a shadow of the club they used to be, which was said during the build up to are first game against them, Inter are no longer a force in Europe.

If leaving a player in the reserves will make a club go into the championship, then explain how this has not happened to United, Gunners, Liverpool, City, Chelsea, West brom, Stoke, infact nearlly all teams have had some one forced to stay once they have handed in transfer requests / asking to leave, every club has held a player when they wish to leave, we do it, Morgan, we forced him to stay for an extra year, Wanyama, Forced to stay, are we in the championship? no.......... are you smoking some thing? can i have some?

Saints v H Beer Sheva was the first time ever to win on English soil, who did they beat? Saints, in all the history of football, first time they won on English soil, even though they have been playing loads of friendly againts Championship clubs, League 1 clubs in the last few years, we are the first to lose on home soil to them, Congratulations, really? come on...... We was favs and you know it other wise Fans (Like you and me ) would not have been so annoyed at not getting into the next round? and remind me. where did milan finish? 4th bottem of the group?...... yeah they where so favs to win it by miles cause there rich history means so much, they finished bottom, but where the best team in the group, great logic right there :mcinnes:.

We did then and are still playing poorly and under performing, any one who says differently are wearing rose tinted glasses.

  7. I am far from happy about the result and performances but lets have some perspective. We have been spoiled over the last 5-6 years. and have over performed over the last 3. Yep we are in a slump but ive seen another in a number of performances which i believe show we can not only start picking up results again but can play exciting attacking football.

I really don't know what people who are complaining about the perceived 'lack of ambition' from the board really expect. We aren't a top 6 club, we will always struggle to keep our top players if they are performing well.

Name me a team who have successfully kept its stars after interest from one of the top clubs has been shown? Look at the likes of Leicster, they have given Vardy, marhez new contracts and both are a shadow or the players they were past year. Even they couldn't keep their player of the season (Kante) and Leicester are now in a relegation battle. Wet brom refused to sell Berahino and 2 seasons later his career is in tatters and will go on a free in the summer (He was a £25m player 2 years ago), West Ham- Payet could have gone after a great first season, has been poor this year after signing a mega contract

The board always get top money for them when they are sold and they do dig thier heels in and get another season from them when we need to (Morgan, Victor, Pelle etc)

Its the way of the world when the bigger boys come calling we will always have to sell eventually. On the the whole they have always recruited well

The board have got it right alot more than they have got it wrong in recent years and for that they deserve allot more patient and faith than is been shown by most of the clowns on this forum. Most seem to want us to spend money for the sake of spending money. The Same people who were probably moaning that we didn't sign Zaza in the summer

You do know Vardy, Mahrez and slimani have scored more goals between them than we have all season right? and are sitting just 3 points behind us in the league? so if they are in a relegation fight, we must be too, but i know what forward line i would rather have or what tactics i would rather are team be playing, and it is not like they are out of europe, i mean only through to the knock out stages of the champions league, we couldnt even manage to finish 2nd in a group we was far far favs for against some very very poor teams in the Europa league, but as you said, lets have some perspective, they will stil finish higher than we will by end of season and least there fans are happy at the performance's of the team, same cant be said for Saints.

Just for the record, i dont want us to buy any one, i just want are manager to inspire confidence both on and off the field, has us playing exciting football with more than 2 shots on target a game ( honestly that is not much to ask is it? )

As for Berahino, This is the stand we should take when are want away players try force a move, let them rott... bad buisness yeah, but least West brom dont have a queue of players waiting to leave, and dont try say they have a rubbish team, after all they beat us quite easy........

  8. So f**king ugly to realize that your team is nothing but mediocre. All our players are championship standard at best( except vvd and boufal), meaning we clearly could be relegated were it not for the very few (vvd) players we have. Success of past seasons IMO came about as a result of better management and a few more quality players( mane, Pele, nivea, spiderman, Vic, clyne). Now we're low on a) quality players both in midfield and attack

    B) we have a poor, uninspiring manager who looks to be a poor, poor man's Wenger.

lol are team is far from rubbish, the way we are playing how ever is rubbish, one of the best defences in the league for the past 3 seasons and now the yare rubbish? Scoring quite freely last season, season before and before that and before that, but now cant manage more than 1 shot at goal?

It all points to the manager.

  9. Some of you are really clueless. We will not be sacking Puel anytime soon. Our key players didn't perform on Wednesday and were dreadful in the second half.

Tactically, we were set up fine. We were well on top in the first half, and they got lucky.

Second half was dreadful, and I blame the players, not the manager.

so, apart from 2 players ( Mane and Pelle ) we have all of a sudden got a rubbish team? get real, Its the managers selection / Tactics that are to blame, funny how you say first half was good 2nd was rubbish is cause WBA changed formation and tactics and Puel did nothing.

    Manager needs to go.

Would RK have us playing better football? Dam sure he would, Would MP have us playing better football? OFC he would!!!! its the manager!!!!!!!!

  10. But to have a keeper who is totally inept at saving goals is another !!

From where I sat Forster may have well been in the dug out for wba's second goal. He is proving to be pretty useless !!!!

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

LOL, that was a screamer!!!!! Rather have forster in goal than 90 % of keepers in the league.

Amazing how since he has joined he has been one of the best keepers in the league, Since Puel has been in charge he has been one of the worst.

That has to be down to tactics being played than the keeper.

We are normally at the top when it comes to defending, but this season we are very very poor defensively, i put that down to the manager. Unless VVD Fonte Bertrand and so on and so on are all rubbish now? come on get real, its the managers fault we are the worst footballing team in the league, with the players we have we should be scoring for fun.... or atleast having attempts at goal for fun.

Cant defend, Cant attack, be lucky to finish in the top 15 let alone in top 10 lol. Manager has to go imho.

Liverpool going to tear us a new one in the cup

  11. Ridiculous for anyone to call for Puel to go. He is doing a decent enough job to with the poorest team we have had for 3 seasons now. His main mistake this eve was picking JWP but other than that, he has poor options up front and a liability keeper in goal.

You serious? JWP was one of are better players, put a goal on a plate for VD and another for Fonte who missed from 5 yards out, not to mention all his set plays where spot on, but people in the box failed to convert the chances..........

Amazes me how he can be singled out during the game and after that he was 1 of are best player's today and you think Manager made a mistake in playing him........... lol.

Guess you watched a diff game.....

  12. I rate Long higher than J Rod. I'd play Long and push him to get over his scoreless period. We need Long to start scoring. J Rod is an unknown now, and its been years since he has really been productive (obviously because of his injury). Long is just 6 months or so removed from being productive.

This seasons Slong is more like the normal Slong, he is not a scoring striker, i do rate him highly, he is a top player, but you cant really think of Slong as a goal scorer / finisher, he is just a dedicated hard working player who scares defenders with his pace and his constant hassement, Even a Broken Jrod is a more goal scoring threat than Slong, and come on? would you have expected Slong to put them chances away? seriously? he has missed more chances this season than Jrod has and has not been out injured for 2 years, not to mention he wouldnt even get into them posistions to have missed them chances any way.

I just think he needs time, he has not played for a long time, he is getting into great posistions and after a good long run of games, he would have put them chances away.

I think he will score more than S Long will if he gets the same playing time, and the fact he has scored already and Slong has not says it all tbh and he has had around a 10th of the playing time Slong has had.

    My opinion any way.

  13. You deserved to get stick for being a feeble pathetic plank.

Fans that cannot even enjoy good news are to be pitied. Or better still just fck off

Ohh just for the record, i have been to alot of games that Sam has played out side of the first team ( Saints first team ) ive been and watched him play for the youth team as well as attended Southend games ( At home at roots hall ) where he was out on loan, i have watched him grow into the player he is and he has a great future ahead of him, am i happy for him, yes delighted, but im also realistic in that if Gunner's / Liverpool or any one else waved huge lumps of cash in his face he will, just like 99.9 % of footballers take it, and i know the club would take any decent offer for him too!. im sorry that this dont upset me as i know its the clubs model, im truely madly deeply sorry that it upsets you so much that you feel the need to insult some one to cover your pain of hearing the truth

  14. You deserved to get stick for being a feeble pathetic plank.

Fans that cannot even enjoy good news are to be pitied. Or better still just fck off

I was not getting stick, have you even read the thread or you are just trolling surely, and stating fact is being a pathetic plank? .

He signed a new contract so he is going to be here for 4 and a half more years? like you think that is likely to happen right? you know, just like every one else on this forum knows that a contract in football is just a way for him to not go play for a different club and so the club can sell them in the future eg before 3 years so he has some value?, why would i be happy about that?.

Why is some one of no concern to me ( apart from playing for the Club i support ! ) signing a contract good news? am i happy for the lad? of course!!!!, does it mean he will be here for 4 and a half years? no it does not, so what do i have to be happy about? does the club have an agreement in place that stops him ever being sold? nope, its just there so he cant just randomly pack his bags and go play for Liverpool, i support the club not the players, i already expect the club to sell him for millons so they can invest it back into the club, i would call that being realistic, not pathetic like you seem to think, while he wears a saints top i will support him, but my support is for the club not him, just like any player that puts on the jersey will get my support but, that support is only for them while they are at Saints.

so why dont you take your horrid words ( you know ppl only swear cause they are to slow thinking and have an iq close to homer Simpson. ) and put them up your backside.

Any way, My comment is as histroy proves, 100 % correct, if you dont like it, dont read it, but one day you will need to face up to reality, go play football manager, cause obviously realism is not for u Sir. Good night.

  15. Stop quoting the c-u-n-t I've finally put Glasgow/Bournemouth/Heisenp-r-i-c-k on ignore only for his drivel to keep popping up as well. Dalek's gone too as has the obese one in the home of the Von Trapp's

Btw is this the same Sam McQueen who is going in a £30m deal to Liverpoool with VVD?

Does this not count as trolling?, if you dont like his opinion / comments then just ignore it, no need to put disgusting words on the forum, you just make your self look like a fool

  16. Does it take a lot of practice or does 'Bellendery' come naturally to you?

To be fair, his is only saying what the rest of the league are already thinking.

Im already being trolled about Sims at work, people saying we will sell him by next season, and did you know, not for one sec did i try and dissagree with them cause i know its more than likely to be true :D

  17. Sorry Mosin, but I don't agree that he regularly puts in killer crosses or through balls. In fact, I have regularly been surprised by how poorly Ward-Prowse strikes a live ball considering how well he strikes a dead one. Not sure I'd go with 99.9%, but I agree with the general sentiment that he is good from free kicks and corners, and that in itself can be valuable.

If he could cross and pass in open play in the way you describe, he would be staking a stronger case for a starting berth. I hope we see more of that from him, and also a big improvement in his shooting - again, the disparity between his dead ball shooting (admittedly he hasn't score many FKs, but they are normally hit well) and those during open play is remarkable.

I know where your coming from and see what you mean about his open play passing, but that can be put down to lack of match fitness and sharpness, he dont play any where near as much as he should be doing, he shows for England under 21's after he has a couple of games how good he can be, he has fantastic passing ability and has shown for us some very nice long range passing as well as some perfectly weighted passes that other players waste by not putting it in the net. If he was played far more and managed to get full match fitness he is a very good player who has a great touch, great vision and the ability to hit 50 - 60 yard passes onto peoples feet. short video which shows how well he can play

Being on the right of a diamond would suit him

  18. He may not be the fastest, but you name one person who puts you on the tip of your seat every time he steps over a dead ball.. every time JWP puts in a cross / takes a free kick at goal its mainly always spot on, Poor finishing from are forwards for years has hampered JWP, and if he only gets that striker who is deadly in front of goal he would be one of the top assist's in the league............ he dont dribble past players, but he takes up good posistions and closes down well and also has the ability if he gets a bit of space to put in a killer cross / pass and is deadly from set plays, i consider them quite valuable TBH, we dont have many players that can put the ball on a plate to be tapped into the net.

In a way he is just like beckham, give him a dead ball or a target to aim for in the box and 99.9 % of the time he will deliver in them situations. stick him in Uniteds team and he will be a star just like beckham was......... Imbra would love a JWP in that team whiping crossing into him.............. and i bet a top manager like Pep / Jose / sir alex would know how to set up the team to get the best out of him too, for the last few years due to are lack of deadly finishers managers have been reluctant to start him as he would have to cross it 1000 times for some one to finaly put it in the net. i would like to see Austin start with JWP on the right hand side of the diamond, set up for JWP to just look to find open space where he can so he can place that ball on top of Austins head.

Im always wishing JWP is on the pitch when we have a chance at goal from a free kick and corners he is just better than any one else in are team at them and is probs one of the best in the league at dead balls. Beckham's main ability was his dead balls and his long range passing / Crossing and he was considered a legend in the English game just for them reasons, why cant the same be for JWP? what else did beckham do for the team? he was slow? never beating his man always passing it back to Nevile then moving to find open space to find the time to make that pass, he did it for England, he did it constantly for United, but Beckhams overal play was not much better than JWP's, he just had lots of game time to prove he could do the things he ended up being a great for..........

  19. Andy, has your son told you that JWP isn't as good a player as you have thought him to be?

On my FM 15 JWP is my captain and free kick taker and is the captain of England and is proberly one of the best mids on the game :D. when i finish work in a couple of hours and get home, ill take a screen shot of his attributes. When he hits 24 + he becomes an amazing player. i have played him every game till now ( 2020 ) and he is up there with the best :D

Ryan Seager also becomes amazing too :D

  20. Be careful what you wish for. Many of us thought the whole brexit thing wouldn't happen but alas the idiots have spoken, and now the country is in accelerated decline. And I understand America has more than their fair share of idiots!

Guess more people thought the remain group are the idiots too so what do you know, we are going out. i dont care i voted to stay, but my home has gained in value since the vote so im more than happy :).

Loads more are going to follow the UK out of the EU too, Petitions and protests in EU countrys are already happening, UK media may be keeping it quite but you can still see the posts people are putting up on facebook and twitter about the protests, so when EU breaks up and falls apart which has been predicted for years any way who have not been on the pay role of the EU, who will be the idiots then i wonder? guess people will be thanking the so called idiots that voted out yeah?

  21. What you mean the free kick specialist who has scored one free kick and the player who after ever sub standard game gets his age pointed out as an excuse he very much is overrated useful squad player at most unless he ups his game big time.

Jack Cork was decent enough, Victor only turns up against the top six, JWP is bang average, Romeu shows promise, Claise will be the best midfielder we have if he can get fit it enough to play regularly, Steven Davis is good at what he does but really needs more goals, Reed has slipped off the radar which says a lot..........our only truly Class midfielder in the PL has been Morgan

I think you will be eating your words in 5 - 6 years time in regards to JWP, David Beckham only scored 15 direct free kicks in his long stay in the EPL and only 4 more since then in his time in La liga and 1 since moving to the states......... and he was regarded as the best in the world at it........... how many do you expect JWP to score? he is only 21 after all, lets messure him when he is a mature player in his late 20's when he is due to peak yeah? but of course i will take your word on it in regards to him NOT beng a specialist at set plays when every pundit says he is including 2 of his last managers his England under 21 manager and all of the Sky sports pundits / Ex players ..... im defo believing you over them.. i got your back dont worry.. ohh sorry i lied...

I would bring assists into it, but are strike force is the worst in the league at converting chances and beckham had some of the best strikers in the league to cross the ball into / Cole/ York / van Nistelrooy / Cantana list is quite huge, but ofc we all know Pelle is 100 times the player any of those i just mentioned was.......... give JWP a break.

back onto topic, Wanyama is twice the player Cork is, could even push it to 3 times.

  22. The main problem we have is football clubs spent, typically, 100 years building up a fanbase by acting as a focal point of their community. They did this with fair prices, local players and the odd bit of success here and there. Then 20 odd years ago the Premier League came about and clubs stopped being clubs and became businesses. This is why the "if you don't like it, just don't go" bridge infuriate me. I go because my Dad and his Dad went, I want my children to go. Thanks to that 100+ years my family is emotionally invested in Southampton FC. It ****es me off that to continue these, many families in Southampton and other cities all over the country have to scrimp and save to carry this on. If ticket prices were a key element in player recruitment/ retainment I could kind of get it. But right now ticket prices reflect such a tiny part of a Premier League Clubs income it is borderline offensive when the 20 Premier League clubs vote against introducing a £30 cap on away fans like they did this week.

Another problem we have is that football is so tribal. Armchair fans love to "hilariously" mock Man City for not seeing out Champions League games. Anyone that knows anything about football would never doubt City's support, but instead choose to mock them on social media ("Emptihad lol") for preferring to pay for their children's Christmas presents than fork out £40-£50 for a ticket to a game against Seville on a freezing cold Tuesday night in November. Instead we should realise we are all in this together, whether you can afford ticket prices or just about get the money together to pay for them we should think about those priced out of the game and the future support of our clubs, teenagers and people in their early 20's that are completely priced out of going to the football, making a racket and having a laugh with their mates on a Saturday afternoon (or Saturday lunchtime, or Sunday any time, Monday night - or Friday night as of next season, but's thats just another thing we should be annoyed about).

So yeah, I'd walk our early. If we dropped 1,2 or 3 points in the process frankly so what. That's a ****ing selfish argument IMO "I've paid my money and want to see us win", yeah well good on ya. I wan future generations of our fans to be able to afford to see us win, lose or draw. One game where we may or may not drop a couple of points due to fans having the collective foresight and goodwill to protest against the disgusting prices charged by "Clubs" in the Premier League, is well worth it to stop our stadium and others being full of well fed 50 year olds and Chinese Tourists.

    Up the Saints.

    This, spot on.

  23. Nothing stopping club's from doing their own thing like Stoke City. They have frozen early bird season card prices since promotion in 2008 and last 3 seasons offered free coach travel to all away games.

They do free tickets in the local paper too and regular auto graph signings down by the training ground, only mainly the local school's that get to go to the training ground though, not sure if saints do that not lived down there for near 15 years now :D
