Morgan
in The Saints
Morgan is being "toughened", learning to be a bit nastier, as confirmed by Dean Wilkins earlier in the season. When you've got that element to your game there's always a risk of a card or two.
I agree with the OP that he needs to stop back chatting and trying to get opponents booked. It's neither big nor clever.
-
To me, he's look knackered for the last few games and is in desperate need of a rest.
I'm not buying that. The whole squad had the best part of a fortnight with no game due to bad weather. It's a dip in form, not energy levels.

Pompey fans I have spoken to are more interested in why the PL allow such people to take over football clubs without thorough checks on prospective owners finances.
If they are going to hold back £2m in order to pay future due debts, then maybe they should start looking at doing the same to all clubs that are in financial trouble.
I'm reasonably certain that Scudamore answered this question recently. Basically, why should it be up to the PL to decide how much money an individual or group of individuals has behind them, before they are considered fit and proper? If so, what would be the minimum wealth they are bringing to the table?
I'll try and find the interview...
Edit: Here you go:
"In fairness to the people at Portsmouth and Peter Storrie and the people who are running that club, they are working very, very hard and have worked extremely hard to live the dream for Portsmouth."They've had a succession of owners through there and the people there now are scrabbling very hard to make sure this football club stays alive.
"There's only a certain point at which we can intervene. We changed our rules in September and now, when we see the financials [reports] that come in from clubs at the end of March, we will be able to take a stronger role to come in and make sure they are sustainable."
Scudamore revealed that the "Fit and Proper Persons" test was not designed to ensure an owner had enough funds to run a club.
He said: "Do you want to just have a club that barely survives in the Premier League? Do you actually want to own a club that is safely mid-table? Do you want to own a club that pushes for Europe? Do you want to own a club that guarantees being in the Champions League?
"Your attitude and answers to those questions give you an answer as to what sort of money might be required and we at the Premier League are never going to be intervening to the level where we decide how much it needs to run a club.
"Debt per se is not bad. It's the amount of debt relative to your income that's the critical issue."

Isn't that the type of company the PFC players are employed by ?

I think it's also important to try and retain some sort of perspective following (very) recent developments. The "excitement" of the Skates' imminent demise should be weighed against the fact we may not have a derby game to look forward to in future seasons.
Sure, let them suffer, but let's not wish the worst on them, eh?
-
It would be a decent thing if Saints fans showed a bit of class and did not go onto their sites to rub it in.
Those lads are decent football fans, and whilst they dislike us they will be hurting.
They love their club like we do ours and so should refrain .
I know it is not the end but ...
Agreed. Their sites do make for bloody good reading though!

BBC Sport ticker:
Portsmouth's application to have a High Court winding-up petition struck out is dismissed -
http://www.football365.com/story/0,17033,8652_5859770,00.html
Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp was accused of a £40,000 tax evasion on Thursday. The 62-year-old Londoner voluntarily attended Bishopsgate police station in the capital to be charged by police, his solicitor said.
The move comes at the end of an exhaustive 26-month police and tax inquiry into alleged corruption in English football.
A Crown Prosecution Service spokesman said: "Henry (Harry) Redknapp, the former football manager of Portsmouth City (sic) Football Club, has today been charged with two counts of cheating the public revenue."

Apparently they have not been playing James even though he is fit, because of a wage increase due him soon.
So, by doing this Poopetry have dented his chances of representing England in the World Cup this summer, and are, therefore, now guilty of betraying their country and therefore should be up before the beak on a charge of no less a crime than....
HIGH TREASON!!!
"We have absolutely not been charged with treason. However, we will fight this charge of treason all the way. Even though we haven't been charged with treason. M'lud."
-
Looks like David James is on his way out...
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/article6987234.ece
The Times understands that if James plays a set number of Barclays Premier League matches, thought to be 20, Portsmouth would have to offer him a 12-month extension to a deal due to expire this summer. That would amount to another £2.5 million on their wage bill, which the club can ill afford given their financial crisis and the looming threat of relegation.

Lolz. Congrats to the OP for funniest thread of the decade!
Not sure he/she realises the pure comedy value or maybe it's just me. 8 posts long & I can't stop giggling!

Would be interesting to know if Leibherr is just giving the club the money like Man City or if it's interest free loans like Chelsea.
He keeps banging on about everything being debt free so hopefully the transfer fees are just a case of him whipping out his cheque book.
I've raised this exact point on another thread, when comparing our position with, say Arsenal. Wenger is against spending big on players, perhaps at the cost of silverware in recent seasons. However, I think his stance is admirable as it is in th best interests of the club over the long term, especially with a mortgage of £300-odd million sat over them. That said, the current squad there wouldn't be incapable of going on and winning something given the relative weakness of the other "big four" teams this season.
However, Arsenal will always be there or thereabouts in terms of a top-four placing each season, and that has to be their minimum aim. He is capable of brining the youngsters through to do that, hence no requirement for massive transfer spend. Whereas for Saints, we need to be out of L1 as quickly as possible and a group of youngsters ain't gonna work.
It will be interesting to see the first set of accounts under the ML/NC era. It's clear that our gate receipts aren't sufficient to cover the outlay so far, let alone additional signings and the accounts (if there are any?) should show how ML has put the money in.
Point to note, Abramovich recently agreed to convert the interest free loans to equity, hence why Chelsea was able to claim that it is now effectively debt-free.

Thanks for this Tractor_saint. Got this in iTunes now but can't get it to appear in my ringtones list, after following some instructions I found in Google. Any other iPhone owners had problems with this?

To clarify, by momentum I meant the general good run and climb that we've been on since Yeovil, but yes we have coughed a bit recently, and it could well be down to tiredness.
I'd say our form in December was more down to the standard of opposition - Leeds, Norwich, Colchester, all teams in the play off zone and more capable of countering our game plan. Lambert didn't do well against any of these teams. OK, we beat Norwich, but we were still poor on the night.
Tiredness may well have been a factor for certain players, but lets hope that can be resolved by bringing some more quality into the squad.

SSN say they have just been paid.
And no details of where the funds originated in order to pay the playing staff. This absolutely stinks, and not just of fish.
-
just been on that pompey site
some have it on good info that markus has loaned us the money he has spent and will run the club like gaydamack did for them
bitter ****s
I raised this in an earlier post. The first set of accounts will be interesting, assuming we get to see the numbers going forward. Personally, I don't think that ML is the spend, spend, spend type and he and NC want to make SFC as self sufficient as possible. But as NC has said before, "funds are available".

in seriousness
it is a shame but the first time in 9 years due to the cold and the second time in 9 years a game is lost at SMS...pretty good really
I think this could be a blessing in disguise...by all accounts the team have looked tired lately and IMO a rest away from games will be good mentaly..hopefully, we will have a few new additions before the next game
True, but the fixture will now have to be rearranged as a mid-week game in what is turning into a very busy season.
http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/4837555.Saints_heading_for_record_number_of_games/
I know, it's the Echo, so hardly insightful journalism.
Also, I'm sure I read elsewhere this morning that despite not having under soil heating, SMS does in fact have the pipework in place. Anyone know anything of this?
-
Not sure, Im pretty sure a 'keeper can play for more that 2 clubs in "an emergency" situation (ala Paul Jones) but not sure about outfield players.
There is certainly nothing stopping someone buying Boateng and then loaning him back to Portsmouth for the rest of the season.
There is if the embargo isn't lifted. My understanding is that they can't register new players, even loans, until the current situation is reversed.
-
EVEN if someone thought this was a good idea...(no-one else so far on this thread) ..I think FA / UEFA rules forbid anyone from owning two league clubs at the same time.
I'm sure former newspaper owner Robert Maxwell tried 20 odd years ago and was slapped down.
I've also got a feeling that Chelsea and CSKA was an issue for Abramovich.
-
Very odd post.
Let's ignore for a second the matter of Saints & Skates combining in a peaceful and harmonious manner. Before you even get to that stage, there's the issue of ML owning two league clubs. I'm reasonably certain there are "conflict of interest" issues that would be difficult to address. Are there any FIFA, FA or FL rules on this?
Edit: David in Sweden is quicker and cleverer.

Try this one or watch Jackonary tonight
"I'll invest £50m, but I only want £28m back".
Isn't there a technical term for that sort of behaviour (allegedly)?
