  1. excellent performance. All get 10/10 from me.

two awesome goals, a clean sheet and a thoroughly deserved victory (again).

JwP and Armstrong were superly superb

the commentators annoyed me a lot. Made out that we parked the bus etc..we didn't, just defended well.

Actually on Final Score Saints were praised for not parking the bus, and that their possession play led to Redmond's brilliantly taken goal.

  2. Identifying what we need has never been a problem and Mr Gao will know this as well as anybody. Finding the people and paying the price are the real challenges for him. No-way he wants us to lose our PL status but if genuinely there is no money what the hell is he supposed to do? His credit rating must be close to zero with the debt he already has on the club.

He could sell or sack two of the current goalkeeping coaches. Their wages would help for starters.

  3. By that I mean not only a defensive coach but a coach that was firstly a highly exiperienced, preferably ex international and has been a proper team captain as a player. Secondly a strong personality. Dave Brailsford, the Olympic, Sky, and now Ineos cycling team's coach/manager was asked what he put his great success down to. His response was immediately "Marginal Gains".

That is the little things that make things better overall. Against Norwich two moments summed that up. Just after half time Shane Long was tracking Tetty on the halfway line made a half hearted pass at a press and let him go unhindered, despite being the quicker player, he couldn't be bothered because he didn't see the danger. One pass later the ball was in our net. The second was leading 2-1, Cedric had the ball on the right touchline there was seconds of injury time left, instead of going for the corner or passing for somebody else to get in the corner, he just aimlessly lofted the ball in front of the penalty area, in front of the Norwich defenders, the ball went upfield quickly and Norwich had two chances with seconds left. Shades of Peter Crouch against Everton in 2005.

Again yesterday two things again, the first Redmond broke quickly down the centre and was breaking the Newcastle line, Shelvey tripped him purposely which finished the move. The second and probably the most important moment in the game for us. A free kick to the back post Long headed it out towards the touchline, Carroll picked it up but Long quickly got out to Carroll then stopped a few yards short giving Carroll room to cross on his left foot for the first goal. What was wrong, Long should have known Carroll's natural foot was his left, firstly he was blocking his right and showing him inside. Instead he should have blocked Carroll's left foot and inside, showed him the line on his weaker foot, especially as he was a lot quicker than Carroll. This simple thing cost us a goal and probably the match. Again he could have fairly physically tackled Carroll and taken the player and ball out of play.

The defensive attitude, organisation and knowledge of the players is poor. Too many are playing off the cuff and just reacting often wrongly. We need an expert defensive coach to change the mindset. Even great players can't do it. Our very average defenders need guidance and instruction. Danny Ings who has spent a few years at Liverpool gets it. He tracks, challenges, tackles and wins a lot of balls defending wherever he is on the pitch. We need all the players completing the press and not just letting the opponent go just because it doesn't look dangerous in that moment.

It is a big weakness, If we can cut out the errors we can make the goals we do score worth more points. It's the "Marginal Gains" that will bring in the points. IMHO get a defensive coach, Three goalkeeping coaches isn't working, unless putting out the cones is important.

Well defined. So how do we get the message to Mr Gao and co?

  4. This. Although I wouldnt call Kat a parasite. More of a naive dumb mother****er

I'm glad at least that Kat was present to see what her actions (appointments) have led us to. She is the architect of our fall. She has been too keen to capitalise on Marcus's inheritance by selling our best and replacing with cheap clueless inferiors

  5. Rubbish article that doesn't say much at all.

So who will decide who to recruit?

    And what is the strategy?

It's been obvious for a long time that high pressing tactics (which in theory I like) depends on a strong cohesive midfield and defence. Strachen said that 'defence begins with the forwards'. Yet this won't happen without the whole team playing the same tune.

Meanwhile, Ralph is shorn of adequate coaching staff and the DOF is yet to be appointed. - He might come with opposing ideas to the manager. What then?

For me, I'd like Ralph to continue with adequate back-up around him and support from above. Kat has an important role to play here. She is now our most experienced director, and she began our problems when she dismissed Cortese in favour of nice Uncle Les. Lets' hope that she takes a long term view for the club - and not her immediate pocket. I would suggest that she swallows her pride and speaks to Cortese.

  6. The only chance we have in this game is if our players turn up and play out of their skins putting in 10/10 performances all over the pitch to try and erase the embarrassment of Friday....and Man City's players get collective amnesia, and forget the way to the Etihad, and then we might just manage a draw (and lose on pens)

Just pick the eleven tallest widest players to block the entire goalmouth.

  7. Incidentally, the Portsmyth about SCUM and the dock strike was started as a spoof article in a Pompey fanzine, called Frattonise, as recently as the 1990s. Now, it's become part of their mythical history. It sounds like the same thing is happening with OWTS and Spurs fans but it's even more recent as I don't think they were even singing it in the 1990s as their song, although fans of most clubs sang it occasionally by then. In the 2000s Spurs fans started their slow version and that then became their new song, replacing Glory, Glory Hallelujah.

But there has always been competitive rivalry between the two ports. I can remember as a nipper in the 5o's, my father, who was a local teacher, going on about it. Then intensifying when Portsmouth gained cross-channel passenger contracts at Southampton's expense. In contrast to when Poole also acquired cross-chanel passenger contracts at Southampton's expense . Poole/ Bournemouth don't attract the same bitter rivalry. There certainly were accusatory comments whenever either Port had a dock strike with accusations that the other was profiteering whether accurate or not.

  8. But they sing 'O when the Spurs come marching in'.

    Not the same

The oldest recording of "Oh when the Saints come marching in' that I have had is by The John Lewis Marching Band. Also by Loius Armstrong. Sometime in the 1920's.

Does anyone know if Mt Miller visited New Orleans before going to Brazil?

    Or anyone else from Southampton?

That would be the providence we need to find.

How about playing the original New Orleans versions by Louis Armstrong at half time. That would be fantastic.

    (Before Spurs do)

  9. My Tottenham supporting mate is claiming that it's OK for them to sing OWTS because they sung it first. I couldn't disprove him because I've only supported Saints since 2013. Does anyone know which club sung it first?

  10. Poor transfers, wages, managers sacked, sky money, league finish money, season tickets, club reputation, next generation of fans.

Ross and Les have cost us the best part £250m

Ross (Harry) should have been sacked when Les (Lloyd) was

Wilson snapped up Van Dyck and Wanyama according to the Mail. This can't be true, surely.

  11. So another great move by the club. A membership fee of over £200 resulted in about 30 people being inside while many regulars boycotted or didn’t want to pay. Even worse, it turns out that away fans, complete with replica kit can purchase match day hospitaltality in there, and then take their seat in the Kingsland for the match. Absolutely mind numbing stupidity. Counting down to when it all kicks off. Yes I decided to pay to be a member, but I still don’t agree with it. Halo are not going to make a penny out of this and this facility should be run by the club.

    Agree.

I miss the old family bar that it used to be within living memory.

  12. Weak at centre back so signed Hoedt.

Still weak at centre back so signed Vestergaard.

Still weak at centre back so signed Danso.

Weak up front so signed Adams.

Weak in central midfield so signed Lemina.

Sold Targett and signed no left back.

Honestly, what a litany of failure and incompetence.

Sadly, true. But Danso was showing promise a few weeks ago.

  13. Poch’s skill lies in getting the band of brothers spirit and trusting youth. Seems to have gone a bit with Alli, Eriksen, Dier, Vertonghen, Toby A not seeming to be in favour. Don’t see him being there much longer.

There's a lot of cautious optimism mixed with fear on this site today about meeting Spurs. They can be dangerous, but they are not at their best. Don't let the idea of playing them worry us. At our best, certainly, we can beat them with our best team.
