Lot of talk about Jacob Ramsey to Forest or Everton, with £30m being mentioned.  His destination and price, should Villa allow him to depart may directly impact any potential Fernandes move.

Ramsey had a pretty decent season didn't he? That must be a PSR forced sale if true. If our finances are OK I could still see us demanding more for Fernandes...

Villa are screwed PSR wise, so think it is with him being home grown.

    From another forum:

He doesn't play much does he? Only started 19 games last season - the reports are Villa keen to keep him, but would sell for a decent fee and player keen to move to get first team football.

Villa are supposed to be fine for PSR now (women's team sale...)

    Quote

Ramsey was seen as a player that Emery thought he could develop, especially being home grown but whilst all approaches were rejected last year the belief is that the club could be open to a sale this year.

He's been pretty unlucky with injuries over the last couple of years - broke his foot on England u-21 duty 2 years back and kept getting issues as a result.  He only really got back up to speed in autumn last year but probably isn't contributing enough goals or assists.

    Quote

We're okay for PSR but SCR is fucking us over. We've reached an agreement with UEFA which means that we have to demonstrate a willingness to bring wages down.  The wahes of the loanees last year probably helps demonstrate that but so we can move on the players we want I think we're looking for 2/3 more sales.

Ideally those will come from the likes of Bailey, Dendoncker, Buendia

    Quote

Lots of injuries but looked more like his old self towards the end of the season. Problem is both him and Rogers look best from the left so either we move Rogers to the 10/right where he is less effective  or Ramsey spends more time on the bench - - similar to our situation at left back where both Digne and Maatsen are first choice options, but on the wages they are we probably can't afford to keep both (adding in we have Moreno, Iling Junior and the new Turkish lad who can also play LB and on 1st team wages).

I expect he might go for a little more than the £30m but it is all PSR profit  so probably tempting for the club to cash in and look to improve elsewhere (we are most in need of a CB, right sided attacker and striker should no one leave). Also look to offload Bailey, Buendia, Dendoncker and one or 2 of our LB's to free up wages.

I don' think we are actually in a BAD position as we have so far kept hold of Martinez, Kamara, Rogers and Watkins but could do with adding a couple more for depth (and we've replaced Olsen as back up keeper, which has needed doing for 2 years!)

    Quote

Villa are fine for PSR, but need to comply with UEFA's squad cost rules and a specific penalty for breaching them last season, which means we have to have a positive transfer balance (I think it does account for amortisation).

Ramsey would be pure profit for both criteria; and his injury record doesn't make him indispensable.   However, we also don't have a lot of academy players in the first team squad, so our EL squad would be light without him.

we spent more than that though, the £75m was just what we spent on young players, that doesn't even include Bella=-Kotchap who was also 20 and played most of his football in the Budesliga 2, but at least he contributed even if his attitude is questionable.

the difference between 14/15 and 22/23 was we signed good, experienced players who went straight into the first team. Bertrand, Tadic, Long, Forster, Pelle, Mane, Alderwierld on loan. All of them with plenty of first team football under their belts, all of them had played at international level, some of them had played in the champions league. They weren't kids who had never kicked a ball in mens football before who needed 2, 3, 4 years to develop. You can get away with one or two like that but not 5 or 6 in one window

  11. Palace signing Ismaila Sarr for $16.2m

Crystal Palace agree €15m deal to sign Ismaila Sarr from Marseille. Crystal Palace have agreed a €15million (£12.6m; $16.3m) deal in principle to sign winger Ismaila Sarr from Marseille. Personal terms are in place and medical will follow before Sarr completes his proposed move to the Premier League.

Getting those two would help but still wouldn't be enough. O'Riley in a debut PL season would do very well to score 5 or 6 from central midfield, whilst BBD is still unproven at PL level. Added to Mara and Armstrong who couldn't score at PL level then we definitely need another striker too.

Our wide options have basically zero history of providing regular G/A output and are weaker than we were in May.

Look at the wide/forward options of Brentford, Notts Forest and Everton and they are miles better than what we have. To stay up we will likely need to finish above at least one them.

    Loads to do.

I've always felt that he's the sort of player, with a run in a side, who could turn out to be above average at this level. Defo could be a squad forward for England with the game time behind him.

I doubt he's available for under £25m. Palace tried to sign him last year for around £30m, but couldn't agree a price - so gave up, he then signed a new deal.

£40m+ in my opinion, which is insane. I think we should have a look at a loan deal for him, but these are the sorts of deals that will crop up at the end of the window. Arsenal will obviously priorities a sale, but if there are no takers then for his benefit and their benefit (protecting value), they'll probably sanction a loan.

That begs the question.....Ramsdale or Nketiah? You can only grab 1 loan from a PL club.

    Ramsdale for me 👍

  16. 1 hour ago, MarkSFC said:

Ramsdale would be a very decent signing, preferably permanently but on loan is clearly most likely. Even if he cost 25-30m he'd be worth it as he is still only 26. Personally I think he's better than Pickford.

We've done some good business so far, and unlike some others I do believe we will splash a bit of cash on 3 or 4 really good players, as in 20m type of bracket. Ramsdale (ideally!!), a striker, and a winger. Still think we need another DCM (Ghoddos sounded like a good option to me, but seems to have gone very quiet), even the OX.

Jack Clarke I think would be a good signing and then we need a striker. Breton-Diaz would be OK, even that Luton striker. We need a couple really.

Ramsdale’s on £120k pw at Arsenal so I don’t think we’d be in a position to match that as a perm even if he was up for the move in principle. Would be an excellent loan though if we could find a chunk of that and they keep paying a bit too.

Ramsdale was brought for £24 rising to £30m - I assume we would be looking at £30m + and his wages would be beyond our limits

On loan for a year - YES

Re Ings ...  Rumour has it west ham offered to pay some of his wages, so we could maybe afford the risk of taking him to begin with but ....

He only has 1 year left on his contract so I suspect he/his agent want us to guarantee a contract of several years, continuing after the first year with a wage much closer to his current £125k(?) than we can afford.

Which would explain why he has reportedly turned down a move to us.

As with virtually many, if not most, rumoured transfer, it's more about wages than transfer fee.

    Ditto Oxlade-Chamberlain. ...  what wage?

    1 minute ago, Dellyears said:

If Ings doesn't want to be here, that's fine, let him sit on Hammers bench and bank his money. His last years are just easy money, we don't want that.

From the West ham thread (who would be overjoyed if he left them!)

    Quote

We can confirm that Southampton did make a £6m offer for Danny Ings, 3 weeks ago and West Ham offered to subsidise some of his wages but the player turned down the move. Southampton are considering making another offer and attempt to convince the player

Personally I think he was underused at West Ham as Moyes had a tendency to use the same players and run them into the ground, and never played 2 up top - so Ings didn't really get a chance there , thus might be (cavet) be fresher than playing all the time (also see players needing game time to get sharp!)

If we’re in the market for a CF I wonder if Callum Wilson is one we’d take a look at.

32, English. 88 goals from 221 PL games. 9 from 20 last season. Had some injuries but nothing that sounds dangerously serious.

£46k per week, valued at £13-£15m as now going into the last year of his contract and Newcastle want rid so they can sign Calvert-Lewin.

    59 minutes ago, Chez said:

47 prem goals in 95 games for Newcastle. Pretty damn good.

He was bought for £20m in 2020. Usually, a big transfer equals sizable wages. He extended his contract having scored 18 Prem goals in 22/23. If he's only on £46k a week, his agent has failed him.

thus I think you might have meant £146k pw - no way he is on £46k pw (think that was his original contract)

looking around it looks like £110/120k pw

this is where we've gone wrong in the past, trying to be clever, thinking of resale value rather than what job they can do now. Buying cheap and buying twice. I want us to bring in a core of experienced, proven players to give us a solid base then we can blend the youngsters in with them. It was no surprise our best seasons have been when we've had an experienced spine, players like Fonte, Bertrand, Steven Davis, Shane Long who had all been around a while, then blend them in with a mix of younger players and decent signings.

The centre back situation was ridiculous when we were in the premier league last time, we were crying out of a captain/leader figure but we must have spunked getting on for £70m on shit players hoping they'd be the new Van Dijk when Fonte left, you cant tell me between 2017 and 2023 there wasn't a single proven premier league centre back available for less than £10m we could have signed who would have filled his gap.

Johnson was on the brink of accepting a new deal but it appears Ipswich have offered him a great contract with clear first team opportunities.
