Rumour is leeds are in for Delap as part of the Philips deal with City. Is he any good?

would be gutted if so, was hoping he would come down to Saints on loan or buyback

Banged them in for fun 2 seasons ago for the academy and was all set for a his big chance last season and unfortunately was injured for almost all of it.

Very highly rated at City. I'd be surprised if City let him go on anything other than loan or without at least a buyback.

Although with Haaland and Alvarez signed and both only 21 it's hard to see Delap getting much gametime...

  3. after watching that rubbish last night - a punt on the Hungarian Strikers / wingers - Cheap as chips

    £10m

the Martin Fella reminded me of Shipperly tbh

Martin Adam of Hungary looks like he'd be a snip for a top Championship club, Celtic/Rangers team based off today's game. Plays for a Hungarian club so daresay he wouldn't cost the world. (£1m)

If re-signing Ings means not starting the season with Adams/Armstrong/Long as our attacking trio "ably" backed up by Tella, Redmond and N'Lundulu then I'm all for it, at the right price. However I'd hope we had better on our shortlist than a player knocking on for the end of his career.

Erikson - no chance, would love him but he'll go to better. Maybe even back to Spurs.

    Long new contract - FFS.

Been in and near Portsmouth and IOW for the last week on holiday so only been checking in. How close is Bazunu to signing? At least that would set the ball rolling.

    IOW :suspicious:

  5. surprised we are not in for

'Morocco captain Romain Saiss has announced he is leaving English Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers after six years.' he 32-year-old is out of contract and no agreement has been reached over a new deal. Was on a massive £30k pw there by all accounts and wanted an increase

    BIOGRAPHY

Capable of playing in defence or midfield, Romain Saiss has been a key member of the Wolves group since his arrival in 2016.

Saiss originally joined Wolves from Ligue 1 side Angers in August 2016 and has gone on to play more than 150 times for the old gold.

Previously Saiss had spent his entire career in France, initially with Valence, Clermont and Le Havre.

The Moroccan international then enjoyed a season at Angers, making 35 appearances, which earnt him a move to Wolves.

It was in his second season at Molineux where Saiss came to the fore alongside Ruben Neves, as Wolves earned promotion to the Premier League.

After representing Morocco at the 2018 World Cup, Saiss cast his hand on the top flight and played in a back three regularly under former head coach Nuno Espirito Santo.

Always a threat from set pieces, the international captain scored three times during the 2019/20 season, against Sheffield United, Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton & Hove Albion.

it sounds like Bednarek and possibly Romeu are on there way

Bednarek needs to be replaced with a guaranteed starter who can lead the defence and partner Salisu - so it needs to be someone who has a good amount of first team experience.  I like the look of Caleta-Car but could we persuade him to leave Champions League football at Marseille.  If Forest don't make it through the play-offs Joe Worral would be another one to consider (at 25 and as Forest captain he would hopefully give some leadership on the pitch).

Those 2 plus Colwill on loan from Chelsea to replace Stephens (and send Simeu out on loan to championship) would be a good depth at centre back.

If Romeu does go we should take a look at Matt Grimes at Swansea - a left footed defensive midfielder and deep lying playmaker he would make a good partner for JWP  - and at 25 and captain of Swansea he would hopefully give some leadership on the pitch as well.

Is John Swift  (25) on a free transfer from Reading worth a look to provide cover and depth at CM/AM with some experience? Although he was born in Pompey so it might be a no go on that.

Ethan Ampadu might be another one to look at to provide depth and cover at centre back, DM and RB. Allowing KWP to provide cover at LB for Perraud.  Or maybe we should taker a look at Josh Doig at Hibernian for left back cover.

Brennan Johnson would be an obvious one for the AM position if Forest don't get promoted. Tino Anjorin from Chelsea is another we have shown interest in.

I'd also take a look at Joel Piroe at Swansea for the AM / Second Striker / Inside Forward roles and Viktor Gyokeres at Coventry at centre forward to replace Long and Broja.

I wholly agree with the bolded sentence - excellent player and puts its about also :toppa:

I wouldn't mind asking if Aaron Wan-Bissaka wants to come here on loan and assuming KWP wants to really switch to the left...

Although AWB probably out of our price range for wages... or to take other fringe players on loan that aren't the likes of Walcott from a big 6 club

  8. For all the people hoping for Lingard (probably not many)

Lingard has priced himself out of a move to Newcastle apparently, wants £150,000 a week and a big signing bonus.

    Presume he’ll go abroad now.

Well, I’m not sure this totally works out - you haven’t factored in that we brought VVD/Mane in the first place. Basically our recruitment has turned a bit shit, and needs to improve, but we have got this model right, and I feel more optimistic of this happening now we have new owners.

Leicester brought Maguire from Hull for £12.5m and Kante from Caen for £8m

    20 minutes ago, ErwinK1961 said:

True, I think the point I was making was more the transfer market value of players has moved on, but we haven’t. What VVD would have cost when we bought him would not have been the same two years later.

We were/are still shopping in the same £10-15m bracket, but those types of players that we used to buy are now £20-25m.

    👍

    52 minutes ago, ErwinK1961 said:

Spot on, this is where our comparison with Leicester ended. They sold Maguire for £80m, spent £36.5m on Fofana. We sold Van Dijk for £75m and replaced him with Vestergaard for £18m.

They sold Kante, signed Tielemans for £32m. We sold Mane, replaced him with Redmond for £12m

You get what you pay for.

    👍

These kind of relegated team signing lists get posted every year and every year we sign or go after none of them.

Its like some of you totally disregard everything Ralph, Semmens and Crocker say about our transfer policy and the type of players we target.

Surely by now you have worked it out?!

    While I agree somewhat

Already Covered by @Chez but we signed Redmond and Austin and for all we know we may have been in for more from other relegated side (pretty sure we were in for Maguire and Vydra from Hull when they went down, and Norwich full backs Godffrey and Aarons + Buendia, did we also not look at Ake and Brooks when Bournemouth went down?).

TBH - I normally start the thread or update it as its a good discussion point

of the bottom 4 the following players would be welcome at Saints (by me).

Tarkowski, McNeill, Cornet, Mee, Dennis, Sarr, Joao Pedro, Pickford, Gordon, Calvert-Lewin, Gray, Doucoure

Though I would like all of them - cant see us getting any of them 😞

I can see him taking over from Roy at Watford

    I can't

He has always said he doesn't want to work under a DoF type of Club - that's what Watford are 🤷‍♂️

Not a bad shout.  Watford old boy with Malay McKay, closer to home for him. However, given how long he’s been in the Prem for, he may be looking for a step up. Watford are always going to struggle to stay up, so it’s like for like really.

IMO he’d have been decent for Everton, but Lampard got that and despite doing a poor job he won’t get ousted from that just yet. There’s not really any other stand out Premier League clubs that would go for him. So, it’s either go for a job in the summer, or wait until the inevitable round of Premier League sackings next season and hope for something from that.

Everton or Newcastle would have been a great job for him

  13. https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/premier-league-set-to-introduce-five-substitutions-rule-after-u-turn-from-clubs-p9g7jn8z9

Premier League clubs are set to make a U-turn tomorrow and agree to five substitutions per team being permitted from next season.

The issue is due to be voted on again by the top-flight clubs at a Premier League stakeholders meeting in London after several attempts over the past two years to increase the number of replacements were defeated.

Although the bigger clubs were in favour, there was strong opposition from the smaller and mid-sized teams, who believed it would give an advantage to the squads which have greater strength in depth.

The Premier League is the only major league in Europe to restrict the number to three but club sources say there is high confidence that there is now enough support for it to be increased to five, with a total of nine players allowed on the bench. The decisive factor has been the International FA Board (Ifab), the game’s law-making body, making the five-subs option a permanent rule.

Recent meetings of Premier League club captains and managers have also debated the issue and there has been broad support among them for the increase. There has also been a lot of data collected from the other leagues around the world which have been using five replacements over the past couple of seasons. The vote is expected to be taken “in principle” and confirmed at the clubs’ summer meeting in June.

The Professional Footballers Association has also been pushing hard for the increase. Maheta Molango, its chief executive, said English teams would be in a weaker position in important European matches if their players were more tired compared to those at continental clubs.

Speaking in Doha before the Fifa Congress, Molango said: “Our position is quite clear. It is a situation that should never have been a debate in the first place because it’s a player welfare issue.

“In the global market if all the other leagues have five subs and we have three that means we will be in a worse position when it comes to the big games. We want need to start thinking more collectively and think that if our teams are thriving in Europe that is a good thing.”

A long season where we can’t score and can’t stop others scoring.

    Rock bottom for me.

Newcastle (18th) and Norwich (19th) to come down with us.

Ralph to be gone within 15 games. Probably another very heavy defeat to one of the big boys.

    Aged well
