Guest Dark Sotonic Mills Posted 13 June, 2011 Share Posted 13 June, 2011 I am looking for an open (not ring) 17mm spanner with a crank or offset. It is needed to lever off the spark-plug covers from a CLK 320 twin spark V6. Anyone know of a source or have one which I can borrow?
Guest Dark Sotonic Mills Posted 13 June, 2011 Share Posted 13 June, 2011 I have realised that I could do the job with a 17mm open ended scaffolders podger as well.
Handyman Posted 13 June, 2011 Share Posted 13 June, 2011 Open ended 17mm spanners are easily obtainable. I have a few myself, bought separately and not in a set. Try INEXCESS at west end.

Handyman Posted 28 June, 2011 Share Posted 28 June, 2011 Thanks. Hopefully they'll sell one with a 75° / 15° offset. One very rare occasion when only an offset open end spanner would do the job, I used an oxyacetylene torch to heat one of my oldest ones at the point of bend and retempered it. It worked a treat, though I don't expect everyone to know how to do that or have access to the the equipment to do it.

I got a ring offset and used a hardened hacksaw to cut it open.
Handyman Posted 30 June, 2011 Share Posted 30 June, 2011 I found a simpler answer. I got a ring offset and used a hardened hacksaw to cut it open. Well done. Iv'e got a couple like that myself. Special jobs require special solutions, sometimes not catered for by standard tools. Over the years I have made/collected quite a few "specials"
