Jannik Vestergaard - Official: Signs for Leicester
Chez replied to ChiefScummer's topic in The Saints
Liverpool play a guy for ten games and his value goes through the roof. They make so much money back on player sales, largely from flops and players they are desperate to offload. I guess for every Brewster there is an Ings. Or is it, for every twenty Brewsters there is an Ings? -

1 game. We lose at Everton and they keep at clean sheet against Wolves. Who the fuck is going to mark him at set pieces when they play us? -

Most of the posters above seem to agree with you. -

my day brightened. Cheers. I think we'll turn them over. It's long overdue and I recall the last time we did it it was completely out the blue too. -

If you say so. Perhaps I have misjudged Söyüncu. To be honest I hate Leicester just as much as every other club, so give them very little attention. My knowledge of your players ain't all that. You ain't getting one of the best CBs in the league. You are getting Rio Ferdinand but without any pace. Is that useful to your side? -

didn't Salisu look a little suspect against a striker that was good in the air last season? Not sure of the game, but he seemed to easily beaten. A bit `after you' like Yoshida used to be like. I might be wrong though. -

he is extremely good with the ball at his feet. Silky and very composed. If you are not conceding goals, which you don't usually do, then you will get to enjoy this attribute a lot. We didn't really notice it because we were so damn annoyed at losing games. He was scoring goals too from set pieces in the first half of last season. we thought we had a world beater, which was strange, as we thought we had the world worst defender the season before. They (the goals) dried up, right at the time we needed them most. In a three, he will be fine. Dare I say it, he might be better than Söyüncu. £18m all in, seems about right, seeing as we got him for about that and he has proven to be both great and terrible in equal measures at this level (which is not unusual). -
Could not agree more. He caused a lot of problems offensively and obviously scored goals in the first half of the season. Defensively, off a standing jump he was never beaten. We must add height if he leaves. Getting pace and ball skills too is the holy grail of centre backs.

Yes, the injuries killed us and who knows where things might have gone without them. But what about when everyone (except Romeu) was fully fit? We haven't bought left back cover.
-
Lee Buchanan from Derby maybe for about £3m.

Forster or McCarthy, who's your No. 1 keeper this season?

most, if not all of those stats back up what we can all see with our eyes. Is there a stat for saves made that quite frankly every keeper should make? Equally, a stat for saves made that were beyond lessor beings (worldies)? Also, is there a stat for saves made to look easy because their positioning was so bloody good? Is there a stat for not coming for crosses and the outcomes of not doing so? ie no goal in the next 60 seconds or so? -

As with Ings, as a company, we have to sell if he ain't signing a new deal. We can't let a £18m asset walk for free. Financial suicide. Much rather have the £18m now to use to sign his replacement than keep him for a season and then have £0 to use to replace. -
Money is tight, that must be the single reason why he would ever rely on Djenepo as cover at left back. Lee Buchanan is available for buttons from Derby. Id' hope if we have a few quid we would spend it as Perraud could get injured in the first game and then what? We cant have what happened last season when KWP got injured happen again.

I often argue that it should take top footballers no time at all to settle into a new side. I think the one position that takes the longest is centre midfield. Understanding your role, how to work with your partner in the middle etc. So maybe he can get that right this season. The other option is for us to play all three. I don't see why we can't try that in certain games. Sticking with this 4222 religiously is stupid, especially when you are losing every week.

this. It worries me greatly how lightweight we are at set pieces. In his first season he got under the ball terribly on crosses, but improved greatly and in the end was strong in the air. We lack defensive headers of the ball. Maybe that why we played offside on every free kick. Not sure y heart can stand us doing that again this season. We will miss his ability on the ball too. Not just the long balls, but he kept possession very well. Stepping inside or upfield with the ball brilliantly. He was so composed. Obviously he was no VVD. He was so slow its not true. But the lack of pace is something that needed to covered by his partner...but Bednarek is slow also. -
If things are going badly, I want to see Koeman style changes. He reverted to a back five (I am not calling for a back five by the way) and we booted it down the channels for Long to chase, turning the opposing back four and basically getting us on the front foot against the top teams. We looked much more solid, gained confidence and got our season going. From there he was able to revert back to a back four. When teams change their shape against us within a game and take charge, I want to see us change shape too. The manager can prance about on the touchline all he likes to get attention and parity in terms of player wages, but its what he does to the shape of the side during a game that matters. Ralph has made changes that have worked...but not very often.
-
I think this too. Diallo could be an absolute star. Cant wait to watch him live.
-
Considering we lost a shed load of games playing 4222 in the second half of last season, maybe the squad is not set up for that formation? If we continue to lose games and the formation is not changed, then questions will need to be asked. While I am at it, if we fail to sign a covering (genuine) left back, more questions need to be asked seeing as our lack of cover at fullback (right side especially) killed us last season and lessons should be learned.
-
A change of formation might be nice, but the 4222 seems here to stay.
-
The thought of perraud being as attacking as KWP both excites and terrifies me. Our CBs can't cope with one on one situations. Exposing them further won't solve our defensive frailties. We may score a few more goals though.
-
Like the polar opposite to Carillo. Hopefully his Saints career will be too.
-
The club lost £76m in 19/20, and no doubt a shit load last season too, so very good chance of that.
-
Has the club stated what the loan was for? Did we lose £70m last year then? Is that how much match revenue we take? What do you mean losses for `forthcoming years'? Why should we lose money this year?
-
another player we messed around and completely wasted his talent.
