  1. As for the rich toff thing.

To be honest. I would prefer someone who was educated at the best school and university by the best teachers to run our country. Rather someone from the likes of Millbrook

I would like to massively disagree that just because you pay a lot of money to send your children to a "posh" school, it doesn't mean they have the best teachers.

Teachers in state schools actually have to be qualified teachers, for a start ...

"1. Do I need a teaching qualification to teach in a private school?

private schools are permitted to set their own requirements with regard to qualifications so, unlike state schools, a teaching qualification is not insisted upon. However, times are changing. While previously a private school might have been happy to appoint a teacher on the basis of their academic credentials alone, it is now more likely the case that they prefer teachers to be qualified and experienced."

  2. I normally move slightly to allow them to pass if the traffic is heavy and slower than the speed limit.

However, why should I move over if I'm doing the speed limit? Seems a bit silly really.

  3. Do you not think teachers should aspire to be role models? Maybe challenge their pupils' attitudes?

I'm not blaming the teachers, it's an easy career to get into and is reasonably well paid for the level of ability required, so no doubt some couldn't care less. That's a systemic failure, not necessarily their own.

    LOL!

What a ridiculous set of statements. 4 years training (a 3 year degree + 1 year PGCE or a 4 year B.Ed.), you have to actually pass all your years, plus each of your training placements in schools. Remember how much you (no doubt, as everyone did) ripped in to student teachers at your school?

You have to (generally) prove why you want to be a teacher, why you'd be good and are constantly assessed by OFSTED / other teachers / your management / governors etc etc.

Pay? A newly qualified teacher starts on around £20k (I think, not sure how much it is currently, but it's around that figure) at the age of 22. I'd suggest that's not great pay. Particularly given the long working days (generally in at 7.30am and unable to leave before 5pm due to staff meetings, parent meetings, writing up lesson plans, creating tasks for the children, tidying, etc etc etc) and then having to work at home most evenings and in the weekends. The holidays are great, sure, but they don't make up for the term time longer hours, plus also, a vast portion of the holidays are spent by most good teachers working / markig / preparing / planning.

Having been married to a teacher for 10 years and now have another teacher as my gf (I didn't plan that!!!!), I know just how much "sh*t" they have to put up with!!

  4. I still can't believe that people are so interested in arguing on an internet forum about opinions no one cares about other than themselves.

Still, good read, keep it up!

For the record, my opinion is that I won't be joining, but I won't be arguing reasons for and against on a forum.

  5. New Renault effort... Not quite in the same league

    http://www.imotormag.co.uk/news/212487/geneva_2009_renaultsport_megane_250.html

I really like that, much nicer looking than the Focus RS.

Having driven a brand new model Golf on Monday, fresh out of the showroom, I'd be intrigued to see what the new Golf R34 will be like though - thought the new Golf was significantly better than the outgoing model. More composed, better interior, better seating etc.

  6. Che 1 and 2: generally meh. I do wish someone would make a movie about what a useless evil murderous b*stard he was. Both: 5/10

I loved Che Part I - was a superb film, very very well acted, Benicio del Toro is awesome!

    I'd give that film a 9/10.

Che Part II however, went on too long, lacked the zing of the first one and ended up being just like any other war film - 5/10

  7. Watched the Time Traveller's Wife yesterday afternoon at the cinema. This won't be everyone's cup of tea, but I really enjoyed it! I didn't originally want to see it as it wasn't a comedy, nor a thriller, nor action, nothing really as it's just billed as a "drama". However I got, er, persuaded to see it ... glad I did now.

It did almost make my eyes damp with sadness and I'm pretty certain there will be a follow up film (don't think there is a follow up book?). Not having read the book, not sure how true it was to the author's intentions, but worth watching (with your other half).

    7/10

Also watched The Damned United on Bluray - cracking film, opened my eyes to Clough and the other legends of the time, that being born in 1976 I don't remember!!

    8/10

Why do they do this, just makes them look like complete idiots.

It makes perfect sense. Someone with sound commercial sense, probably the CCO of the airport has said; "Okay, we need to get more income. We get more income from more flights and more passing trade. We get more flights and passing trade by linking ourselves to one of the main finance capitals of the world. That's London. Hence, we shall now be known as London Oxford Airport so the dimwits abroad use us more"

    It's that simple ;-)

  9. Dear Dr Skate,

p*mpey fans love their 'tradition', please revert back to their original colour shirts of 'Salmon Pink' and also p*rtsmuff's original nickname 'The Shrimps', far more appropriate.

    Thank you.

PS forget any talk of a new stadium - not required, not enough fans.

LOL! Love the bit in bold!

  10. So, no one has ANY idea who, or when, the new manager will be appointed?

It's quite nice, really. Going back to the good ol days before the internet when you heard the news on the regional tv or radio!

It seems that the only ITK people under the new regime are the owner and his advisors.

Brilliant. just how it should be!

  11. 'The former Chelsea striker is believed to have had initial talks with representatives of new Swiss owner Markus Liebherr....'

    (phone rings)

JFH: Can I speak with Markus Heibherr

    MH: Speaking

JFH: It's Jimmy-Floyd here, can I apply for the position of manager?

    MH: No, go away

Is how I imagine initial talks might have gone!!

Genuine LOL! I would hope "discussions" did take that path!!

  12. Is it:

    'Lee-b-hair'

    or

    'Lie-b-hair

    anyone speak German?

(want to make sure I pronounce it correctly tomorrow when we undoubtedly start singing 'Markus Liebherr's Red 'n' White Army')

    'Lee'

Crudely - In German (generally), the 'ie' you pronounce the 'ee' sound, for 'ei' words, you pronouce the 'ii' sound.

  13. great reading this thread and seeing the interest levels rising.

I am dissapointed that blocks 1,2 and 3 are not open. This deicison ****ed off a lot of fans last season and the new regime's suggestion that they want to re-engage with fans appears to be just talk.

The noise that these blocks generate is extremely important. A noisy ground improves the atmosphere no end and it's this that will attract fans back and not dare I say it the 3rd tier football they saw.

    This is an error.

I am buyng a season ticket, but no real rush to do so today as I'd like to wait and see if these blocks reopen in the next week or two.

  14. Markus is really German. German beer = yummy. Mach schnell Markus, bitte. And one of those swinging lampshady things over a barbeque doing Bratwursts wouldn't go amis

That said a decent array of real ale would be a welcome complement

Now that is a great shout - some Pils and Alt, Bratwurst, Currywurst ... mmmmm! Pommes mit mayo!

  15. 1) The Ringwood Brewery is in Hampshire

    2) Ringwood Best is a lovely pint

Not sure why this thread has got this far without mention of these key facts...

Also employ less mongs and make everything divisable by a pound. Round it up round it down i don't care. Just get the damn queue moving!

I neglected to mention the facts, but I did suggest Ringwood! ;-)

Local breweries and ML's quote that he wanted to re-engage with the community is exactly why I linked the two. Breweries like Triple FFF and others mentioned would surely jump at a chance to show off their beers on a match day!?

  16. I love the fact that I'm not the only one! Great stuff.

I had a thought though; isn't it REALLY nice to be in this position again to discuss what beers are sold on the concourse instead of worrying that we wouldn't have a football club?

    Fantastic stuff!
