Serious point... I have only driven in anger on the Brands Hatch circuit once in my life. I spent a day racing single seaters, not much bigger than go karts, and I happened to do very well, winning a couple of awards on the day. Like I said, I did it once, several years ago now, but I remember everything about the day, even the stench of the toilets as I spent a good half hour 'bricking it' before the day got going. It cost me a fraction less than a Wii console to compete for the day but, you're right, I only got to do it the one time for that money whereas I could play Mario Kart every day for a few quid more. The thing is, I'm pretty sure you can't remember every minute of a game of Mario Kart in ten years time. There is no substitute for the real thing, and the sad part is people are paying a lot of money to do things 'virtually' that they could easily have a go at in real life. Oh, and don't even get me started on Guitar Hero.

Let's not get started on the abilities of the Police/Government, their resource distribution or their chances of not making a monumental **** up of it all anyway.

But you could go indoor skiing in MK or Pontefract for less than the price of the game, same with go karting. As for Monkey Ball, it sounds a bit w*nk and I haven't seen any ads for it.

I'm with Bungle 100% on this, and I'm pretty certain there isn't much mutual respect between us regarding our political views. I only hope our shared disgust for the proposed ID cards is a microcosm of the country and its citizens as a whole.

I haven't seen a advert for any Wii game that doesn't involve something that's relatively straightforward to do in the real world. I'm sure there are games out there which don't fit that mould but the the ads always push the ones that do. Seems a touch pointless.

No, not even under those circumstances. Even if they could prove it reduced crime (a statistic which has not been forthcoming in any argument so far) it's still not enough of an argument IMO.
