You just don't get it, do you.

I find myself agreeing with Trousers' last point (!). We live in a 24 hour culture these days and many, many people work shifts. At this time of the year, Mr TF never sees daylight when he's working as he travels to / from work in the dark regardless of which shift he's on.

1. I'm not wealthy - I'm a pensioner FFS! 2. The argument is about workers being shareholders of the companies they WORK for. Nothing to do with where anyone shops. So your 'riposte' is a non-sequitur. I can't really make it any simpler for you, sorry.
-
That's the loopiest reposte I've ever had the misfortune to read! Jeez! Why shouldn't the people who WORK at Tesco be able to share in the profit of the company they work for? It's got absolutely nothing to do with where people shop. You're not very good at this debating lark, are you

Another option would be to run all companies like John Lewis, possibly?

A Tory MP on the Daily Politics show at lunchtime said that there were a number of middle-class Tory voters taking part. Does that help with your calculations?
-
I don't know - it depends on the political will, although this government is set on reducing red tape so would probably shy away from regulation. One good idea IMO is to have the highest wage (including benefits in kind) as a multiple of the lowest wage.
-
And their wages, ultimately, depend on their own performance. Many of these highly paid directors are in charge of companies that depend on the workforce that creates and produces the goods and contribute to the company's success.
-
Strange that this should be being discussed right now, with all the dire economic stuff going on! I'm ambivalent and I can understand the arguments on both sides. I remember when we trialled this before. My daughter had just been born and I do remember how easy it was to manage a small baby's sleeping and eating patterns because the clocks didn't change backwards and forwards.

We do - someone once told me it's the best thing to do.
-
No more do I - I'm thinking doctors, engineers, researchers etc. However, some of these won't get the sort of rises mentioned in the article, although it could be argued that their work is priceless. But some of these directors are just parasites.

If, and it's a bloody big if, they pay their taxes.....nn

What I found interesting was that the previous owner of the site had papers to prove that it was a BROWN field site when he sold it to the Dale Farm residents and had been used as a scrap yard by, among others, Basildon Council.

A few of them were interviewed on Monday about this 'part-time' accusation. They obviously lived fairly locally and said they popped home for a shower. Since they're normally called 'the great unwashed', I think this is a reasonable thing to do.
