Nothings changed.
Never uses subs as an advantage and it’s plain to see that we needed to freshen it up before they scored the second.
I personally would of taken Walcott off after 60 minutes and replaced with Tella.
Armstrong on for Armstrong as he run himself into the ground, Walker-Peters for Tino (knackered) and I would of sent Redmond to Tesco’s to get some strawberries.
Walcott should not have come out for the second half.

Not salissu then. Just let the ball go over his head and not dealing with it. Very strange, just blame stephens for everything.
Don't give away the cheap corner and the goal doesn't happen.

So, away against a Top 8 team that has spent a ton of money, we had a pretty decent first half with both Livramento and A. Armstrong looking excellent. JWP filled in to allow Livramento to push forward, and the front two were causing the CDs a lot of problems.
I suspect Ralph’s half time instruction was to keep things tight, but it all went down the shitter in the first 90 seconds of the second half. The game-changer was on McCarthy because I should have heard one of two words all the way over here in Canada - “AWAY!!!!” or “KEEPER!!!!”. I’m pretty sure that Salisu – twelve feet away - heard neither, which is typical of McCarthy. Other than that I thought he played well – especially on crosses. Anyone who blames him for the next two goals is just trying to support their viewpoint that Forster should start. That may be so, but make the case without blaming McCarthy for goals that aren’t his fault.
After that, JWP stopped filling in for Livramento so that he could push forward, and that ended the threat on that side because Theo wasn’t doing anything. On the other side Djenepo was his usual uncontrolled, hurky-jurky mess, and Perraud couldn’t push forward because Djenepo is such unreliable cover.
I don’t think we’re ever the same side when S. Armstrong is not in it. Ralph has to figure out how to build on today’s positives with him in the team, but the two candidates to make way have to be Djenepo and Theo.
All in all there were more negatives than positives, but there WERE positives. This is not about whether we can win away at a Top 8 side, but whether we have enough to avoid relegation – or possibly even make it into the middle third.
First goal on Stephens for horrendous miss kick while attempting a simple clearance leading to a needlessly conceded corner. At this level that is criminal. Schoolboy error.

One up at half time with Theo and Djenepo being shite.
Winning or not l, the manager has to change it and bring off players who are not performing, it was appalling from the manager.
Not pro active at all and you can’t be like that in Prem league
awful
Exactly right. The manager has to be ruthless enough to tell a player at half time who has not performed that he's being hooked. Theo offered nothing during that opening 45 minutes - this should have been dealt with by the coaching staff but not sure they have that bit of ruthlessness about them. They'd rather gloss over it and hope things improve. You can't afford to be so soft at this level.

Long hard season coming up. Lessons not learned. Dejavu anyone.

Same old same old. Ralph sitting on his hands - no subs.

Stephens fault for giving away a needless corner.

Fucking Stephens.

Maybe because he managed Liverpool?

That half from Tino was absolutely incredible for a lad his age up against Richarlson. He has been sensational and I can now see why he was picked ahead of KWP. Going forward as well, he picks his moments and has loads of skill and confidence. Great finish from Armstrong to get him up and running. My only disappointment has been Theo who has done very little. Same again second half Saints.
-
I'm guessing KWP must be carrying a slight knock. If not I suspect he'll be feeling fairly pissed off.
-
Don't think anyone saw that line up coming. I wasn't expecting Ralph to be that brave. Lets's see how it goes and hope he catches Everton on the hop by springing this team on them. Good luck boys.

Same, Chambers is a decent player and versatile too. I dunno if he'd be an improvement on Bednarek but I wouldn't be actively against it as a depth option unlike Dier.
Was quite glad to get shot of Chambers so hope we don't bring him back.

Apart from VVD , who have been Saints outstanding CBs ? I remember Ron Davies , Alan Shearer , Terry Paine etc because they were always in the headlines as they were attackers but I can’t recall many outstanding defenders (due to old age)
Mark Wright, Killer and Claus, Dave Watson, Ken Monkou, Dean Richards.....

Same height as Alderweireld, Sanchez, Bailley, Soyuncu, Lindelof, Stones apparently at 186cm (6'1''). Taller than Stephens, Tarkowski, Ben White. Should be fine tbh.
Good point well made.

Why he makes the interceptions is irrelevant when my post was a counter to a claim he doesn't defend. The most successful interceptions by a defender in the league shows one defensive skill he is good at.
As someone else quite rightly pointed out for this stat to be relevant we need to know the number of attempted interceptions to calculate a percentage.

Do interceptions not count as a type of defending? 🤔
Doing the most successfully in the Premier League of any defender is a good thing for him isn't it? He was 22 ahead of 2nd place Ben White!
Possibly but the reason that his stats are high might have something to do with the fact that we were under the cosh for many games.

Leach says he's out of our price range, would be a nice signing though from what I've seen. Don't want Cahill either, wouldn't be against kabak really.
Kabak is relatively short for a centre back at 6 foot. Might have a good spring I guess.

In that case it is very ambiguous and could mean anything.

Former Liverpool loanee Ozan Kabak, free agent Gary Cahill and Marseille defender Duje Caleta-Car are amongst the players thought to be available to the club this summer.
By 'available' do you mean we are showing interest in them? There will be many centre backs who are available to us but, on its own, that means nothing.

Salisu and Bednarek are fine for what we need as 1st choice.
So hopefully we won't waste money on Nathaniel Phillips.

I think tella could cause them problems so i’ll be happy if we start Armstrong on the bench. Doesn’t make sense to rush him in whilst he’s still learning how we play and getting to know teammates etc.
Not quite sure how sitting on the bench helps Armstrong learn how we play. Get him in the side from the start and let's see what he's got. I think Armstrong is far more likely to cause Everton problems than Tella, who I like, but is still pretty raw.
-
At the press conference it sounded pretty clear that Ralph will not be brave enough to start with Adam Armstrong against Everton. Not sure why when he is clearly the best option out of what we have. Can see him being brought off the bench if we find ourselves chasing the game. As usual Ralph will be reactive rather than proactive. Or maybe he'll surprise me but I doubt it.
