I still think Pardew will need a few more months (in reality) before he's totally happy with the side. And seeing as the transfer window doesn't open now until January - we can't sign anyone quick & pacey/wide on a permanent basis before then. Sure - we can loan players - but I don't think you ever quite get the same commitment from loanees as you do with those on a lenghty contract. I'm sure - like us - he realises we need some pace & width in the side - and quick! - if we're to get out of trouble. As for 'pre-season'; the season only started last month (still early days) & Pardew joined at the 11th hour. His ways & means, his ideas on how he wants the game played, his mark on the club - will take a little while longer yet. I don't think we're too far off being a good side in League 1. By the end of January - this team & how it performs will be 100% Pardews.

My 21-year old son has just phoned as he's exiting the ground. Four of them went up by car at 5.30 this morning. Into injury time I felt really sorry for them having gone all the way up there - only to see them lose. Years ago - I drove me & him up to Tranmere mid-week on that infamous 4-3 Cup evening - so it wasn't exactly new to him! As it happens - those leaving the ground are happy indeed - thanks to Jaidi's late, late leveller. The 4 of them (all aged 20-21) are now on their way down to Blackpool for the night. B&B, a few beers, on the pull, more beer, and then drive home tomorrow. Sounds to me like something out of 'The In-betweeners' ffs! Happy to report that they are much more upbeat - thanks to Jaidi!

Jeez - talk about the late late show! Hand's up who saw that coming? Phew. Makes a nice change to actually SCORE rather than CONCEDE late on! Another point chipped off the deduction penalty. To coin a well-known supermarket slogan: Every little helps!

On paper - we look a very decent squad for League 1. On the pitch (where it counts however) - we just...I dunno - I'm totally puzzled.

Holmes goes left wing; Lallana right. Papa up front alongside Lambert. Now - those 4 names....surely...SURELY - are capable of scoring against Carlisle ffs?!?!

I do feel that one goal will win it today. We aren't exactly prolific on the scoring side of things - but if we can manage a scrappy goal somewhere along the way then that should be enough. The rearguard sound okay although not entirely comfortable. Still - that one single goal will be enough today. COYS!
