That was horrific. Someone actually filmed 'jumpers' from a building right next to one of the towers as it was on fire. The film (lasting several minutes) shows several bodies on the ground - and more actually falling as they filmed. Indeed - one drops straight through a canopy over the entrance door to the tower. It is an horrific video to watch - and for obvious reasons - it has not broadcast on TV to my knowledge. YouTube has it - and I'm surprised it has never been 'pulled' tbh.

Indeed. A "classic" example of all of this (and the opening events of that awful day in general really) is the first 30 seconds or so of that 102 Minutes documentary. The documentary opens with the voice of an off-duty fireman phoning the emergency services - saying: "This is off-duty firefighter Jermaine...er...I guess you got this already. You got a plane crashed into the World Trade Center...are you aware of that?" Then there's a couple or seconds of pause from the operator before he says; "We got a plane?...that crashed into the World Trade Center?...in Manhatten?". [Firefighter] "World Trade Center in Manhatten..." Then there's several seconds of silence - as if to say the operator thinks it's a crank call...or something like that just couldn't happen or was utterly impossible. Total disbelief.

For those who missed it - you can watch it in full here: http://www.channel4.com/programmes/102-minutes-that-changed-america/4od#2934610 13 minutes into the documentary - just watch & listen to the astonishing scenes of the 2nd tower being hit & the panic from those youngsters filming it from a nearby flat. Like me on that day (I sat & watched it all unfold live on TV - stunned & mesmerised) - I too thought that the world had gone crazy that day & earth was quite possibly coming to an end...

Coppell lined up as Director of Football - online report (or not)

Good idea I think. Besides - a ready-made replacement for AP...should the worst happen of course! -
Absolutely astonishing documentary. Well done to whoever put that together. Worth the TV licence fee alone!

I feel sorry for Rickie Lambert at the moment. The guy is quality in this division as his records proves. But he's got virtually no support alongside him (in the form of a decent strike partner) - and worse still - the service being given to him is almost non-existent. I'm sure - like me - he's hoping AP is trying his best to rectify that behind the scenes. Saga is not the answer - nor is Paterson. Not sure if Papa will be used up front or out wide - but either way - he'll be a welcome addition for Lambo.

But it's only the first weekend in September?!?! Papa & Jaidi due to play. Holmes due back sometime soon - along with the very promising Kayne McLaggon in the near future. No doubt Pardew is looking for a couple of new loan players on top of all that too. I certainly am not worried this early in the season. We are now heading in the right direction - very much so.

Like Strachan at Coventry - before coming here...

Not me. I only sell on there - not buy!

Time. Time is the answer. Time is the one thing that will see our fortunes change for the better. We are only in the first weekend of September. Pardew has had a short while now to take a good look at the squad he inherited - and has added some very good players in the positions we were lacking in. Murty [shame about the injury], Trotman, Harding, Hammond, Lambert & Papa. They are all very capable, very good players in this division - and probably a division above. I also have no doubt that Pardew will look to 1 or 2 further additions over the coming week or two through the loan system. And what of Pardew himself? His record at Reading was second-to-none. After his first year as gaffer there (appointed manager in 1999) - he turned them around from relegation candidates when he took over to losing the Div 2 play-off final to Walsall in 2000-01. The following season [2001-02] he took Reading straight up automatically into Div 1. Pardew's first season in the higher division was outstanding, as the club finished 4th and lost in the play-offs once again, this time to Wolves. At West Ham [took over early 2003-04 season]- he took them to the play-off final in his first season there. They lost to Palace. The following season they started badly (ring any bells?) but he still took WHU into the Premier League that year by beating PNE in the play-offs. His first season in the Prem - he took the Hammers to an FA Cup final. I know things went downhill from there - but which manager hasn't had a bad time in their career - for whatever reason/s? Charlton was a complete mess [and I'm sure he'd be the first to say so] but I don't know the financial/boardroom situation at The Valley during his time there that may have contributed. Either way - I'm very happy & grateful that we've got Pardew at the club. We all need to remember that we are a L1 side when all is said & done. He's only been here a matter of a few short weeks & it WILL take more time yet to get the team settled, firing on all cylinders & gain some kind of understanding between them all. You need time to learn how your team-mates play - their game - strengths - weaknesses, etc - and it's not easy when we keep getting new additions to the team...which I'm not complaining about of course! I honestly think that come November/early December - we will be an extremely good side in this division - very hard to beat - and will win far more games than we are currently losing or drawing. Infact - I wouldn't be atall surprised to see us go on a long winning streak & playing some bloody good football in the process! But time. Time is the answer my fellow fans.
-
No offence BP but that midfield would be truly shocking! Far, far too lightweight. And what's Hammond done to be absent?
-
You have to fathom in the 'Pardew' factor there though Adrian. I would imagine there will be a pretty hostile atmosphere at The Valley for Pardew next week. It's safe to say he isn't going to be their favourite returning manager! The terraces will therefore be very hostile - and this will transmit to the pitch where our delicate little flowers/jelly babies will be strutting their stuff. It won't affect the likes of Hammond, Lambert or Perry - but the rest? I'm not so sure. It's going to be a very tough game in a pretty hostile arena. Will we be up for it? Simple answer [imho]. No.
-
Cheer up everyone. Charlton away next weekend! It's not like they're doing well...(*checks league table)...oh - hang on...
-
An hour against 10 men. They lost their big influential captain. We huffed & puffed. 0-0. It's going to be a long, long winter...
-
Sh1t corner Saints...
-
It's now or never... FFS
-
Lambert 1 minute from the end I reckon!
-
4 mins of added time...
-
2 mins of normal time left...
-
There's still 10 mins to go yet...

Jeez; Colchester are a big team & it's no use Saints hitting it long & high. I think Pards can see this - hence Morgan on. We will only get chances by PLAYING football through them & around them.
