That was a shit pass, it was behind him onto his weak foot. For that to get through to his strong foot (IE had to make it further across his body) it needed to be hit either much harder of further in front of him.
I'm amazed you think that was a good pass.
LoL
this professional football, and Downs is an international
the pass to him was flat, at a good pace and 6 yards out in the middle of the goal for a tap in to an empty net.
it as about as set up as you get

I didn't see the game last night - was it really that bad? Seemed to be a bit of a fitness builder for some, and back-up players. Saw the Downs miss, although it was a really shit pass into him. I remember being at Millwall away and Sheffield Utd away in the Cups, where our fans were so down on both Pelle and Mane! Hopefully it will just be another one of those situations.
It was very poor, but we got through
stunning that people believe this is a really shit pass

A midfield of Downes, Charles and Fernandes/Rudoni is superb at this level
Then why does it look shite?

Yes, let's berate the 21 year old lad who is adjusting to a new country, new team and new manager. More then willing to give him time. Graziano Pelle looked like a carthorse until he got a bit of confidence going, hope he can (literally) find his feet soon.
Who is berating him?

Avoiding the defender and GK is all well and good, but you also need to put the ball right where the onrushing player needs it. He didn't even look up though, so couldn't possibly judge DD's run.
For the chance to be an absolute sitter, the ball in needed to be perfectly in front of him, and it wasn't. So I'm not going to join the bandwagon of knee jerk fans who seem to have already decided he's shit. The jury is still out for me.
Che Adams was frequently guilty of far worse misses than that, but was a very key player for us last time in this division and still got 16 goals, so I'm not gonna write Downs off just yet on the basis of a missed chance that wasn't quite as easy as many seem to think it was.
LoL
he put the ball on the 6 yard line ready for an on coming player to tap it into an empty net.
The mental gymnastics going here is a sight to be seen.
it was a piss easy chance for any level of football, let alone for an international

Not until we've got some wide attacking options that aren't horrific.
Assuming Dibling and Edozie are out the door, we've only got an 18 year old kid who can control the ball within three touches and might be able to beat a man.
If anyone thinks technically limited strikers awkwardly shoehorned onto the wings are going to be the creative spark that gets our attack firing, they're dreaming.
fair point

I'd imagine he'll do that once he has a squad of suitable players. Although we've been a bit crap so far, what I like is that Still has adapted his tactics to suit the players he's got. Give him the midfielders that are being linked, and he'll have all sorts of options for a 4231/433, or even a back 3 if he wants to play that from time to time.
I get the feeling that SR want to give it a bloody good go this season, it's just whether we can persuade players to move.
seems that way to me, also.

I was surprised how poor he was last season and worried the traits he showed (poor touch and passing) would be an issue this season too. We got him for buttons and so far I can see why.
I keep reading we are ok at right back but we really aren't. Its a crucial position in a 352 and Bree isn't mobile enough.
hopefully, Still will revert back to a 4231

Its a poor pass that is slightly behind him. He got there a fraction too early, adjusted and them fluffed it. I'm guessing he's right footed?
I can see why he missed both but thought he should have bundled both chances in somehow.
he should not have missed. I am sure the player himself would agree.
The excuses being made for an international, regarding two sitters, is quite something

The Wrexham chance he was fouled 🫠

Just watched a highlight clip of the Wrexham winner. Downs is clearly/blatantly pushed over with an arm in his back for manning's cross.
By Phill "cry me a river" Parkinson's logic, that is a penalty and a straight red for the Wrexham player? Right?!

I'm gonna cut him some slack for that one tonight having seen the replay a couple of times. BBD didn't play it far enough forward and you can see Downs frantically try to slow down to avoid overrunning it completely.
he is a professional footballer on millions of £, he was running onto the ball/play and this time he was completely unmarked.
It was (another) horrendous miss.
Hopefully, he will come good...

That was fucking shite.
Not too keen on the adaptable Will Still set up of sticking with 5 defenders and hitting early/long.
Downs was shite - should have signed Kieffer Moore instead of him, at least Moore would suit our new style
5 defenders is awful - yet to see us look good with that formation.
Won again by the fact we have better players, little to do with style or patterns of play

Not joking, Given how we are seemingly set up...5 defenders, hit is long/early, we would have been far better off signing Kieffer Moore instead of this chap.

Someone tell me Spors knows what he is doing...this is dreadful

LOL - how was that a free kick...

I hope we get to see some of Will Still famous adaptability, as about 160 mins of the last 2 games have been utterly terrible. Gotten out of jail by nothing more than having better players.
3 at the back is shite, and we are clearly vulnerable with a long clearance on the counter. Our passing has been shite also, as we have been giving the ball away far too much.
If we continue this mess, and/or start as slow as we have done, we could be in trouble against a much better side.

We have by far better players, like Saturday...but, like Saturday, our patterns of play and set up are largely dreadful

The natives are really not up for this Martin train. Plzten hit them with 28 shots today, could have got 4 or 5 goals on another night.
His defensive coaching is still top notch.
and Rangers have nearly 60% possession....

Got to ditch this 3 at the back

Our attacking options are pretty poor:
BBD is awful. Can't control a ball.
Downs looks ok defensively, but goes to pieces in the oppositions area.
Archer is the invisible man. He's never involved in the game.
We need a striker.
What we need to do is have a system that gets a tune out of these players...
