Yes. Well done Sherlock. I don’t rate him.

Odd, I don't recall this conversation...
Now to read other comments to see how our buy one get one half price player sale is going.

I always feel there is a sarcastic side to Pep. He may have been smiling when he spoke about Martin but deep down, he was thinking what a prat. You always know when Guardiola is under pressure, he reaches for his water bottle. He's drunk a lot of water this season, has Pep.
I know that's what I thought. So, I had another look.
In the interview, he does go into some detail as to why. Martin had set up to do similar passing movements, but without going toe to toe with everything City's better players were doing. As a result, City, had a little bit at the end where we could have got an equaliser, and they hadn't put the game beyond us.
I think it bothered him they hadn't been well ahead, and even had the risk of losing a couple of points.
So it comes across as a comment about that, and a style he likes to see. But from a position of winning lots of games, in which we were an annoyance for 5 minutes.

Man City - 4 titles in a row, cooking along nicely for a 5th then BOOM!! Pep praises Russell Martin
As soon as he said that we play the way they like to do, the penny dropped with all the other clubs. "Hey, why don't we just cuff them the way we did Martin's team?"

5-1 even Pep gave up at 4-1 !
Perhaps his possession football isn't extreme enough. Perhaps he needs a consultant, who he has already said he could learn things from. Step forward Mr Martin!

Similarities to Bertrand were immediate. I’m already worried about how we keep him at season’s end.
Welington just started and already you're seeing him getting the boot. 🙂

I'm inclined to agree although, as one or two others have pointed out recently, there's going to be an 'elephant in the room' next season for all those players who are "great in the Championship but not good enough for the Premier League".
That is, the likes of Downes and Adam Armstrong had a significant incentive to perform out of their skin last season: they had the 'prize' of playing in the Premier League the following season.
However, next season, that prize won't exist as it's now clear they would need to be jettisoned if/when we get promoted.
As such, there's a fair chance they won't have the heightened levels of motivation they had last season... (Yeah, I know.... they're professional footballers and will naturally want to play their best regardless of the circumstances, but a lot of the game is played in the mind and these guys are only human...)
If anyone needs any details of this, just DM me. Every moment of my direct involvement in PL games, is entirely in my mind. 🙂

Just a few comments, as I'm "nearly" about to launch a manned mission to Mars. 🙂
11 hours ago, trousers said:Whilst bearing in mind we should all be "moving on", Dark Munster's description of Martin perhaps needs a bit of qualification...
Martin was indeed a "dog shit" manager this season, in that he persisted with an approach that was doomed to failure with the quality of players that we had, alongside the quality of the opposition.
Conversely, he could be considered a "decent" manager last season because his tactics largely worked against inferior opposition in the Championship. (Although, we often weren't convincing against the better sides in the league... A sign of what was to come this season...)
In other words, being "dog shit" and "decent" aren't mutually exclusive descriptions of someone, when taking different circumstances and context into account.
The bottom line is that Martin was "dog shit" this season and therefore had to go.
It remains to be seen where Juric ends up on the "dog shit" scale, but signs are that he's getting more out of certain players in the PL than Martin was able to....
If success in the Championship, is getting promoted from it, then Martin is a successful Championship manager.
If being a successful Premier League manager is at least getting points to stay in it, then Martin is one of it's least successful managers.
After that, there can be endless discussions from how talented individual skill dug out points for us throughhow effective control was to build from to how successful it would have been with different recruitment.
12 hours ago, Harry_SFC said:When I first saw it, I was wondering if there was a transfer on the go. But it does seem to be a result of training/ performance. Since nearly everyone was poor under Martin this season, he can't be that wedded to that system.
I was hoping we'd see Downes kick on. In the way Fernandes has, just further back. There's minutes there for him, if he can adapt to Juric's asks.
12 hours ago, StrangelyBrown said:To be honest, and as a Ralph fan myself, he'd run out of ideas and we needed someone new to freshen the place up.
The mistake was replacing him with a Welsh PE teacher who wanted to play a completely different (and basic) style of football.
Generally agree. He could have gone at a number of points the season before. But with SR's money, he still ended up without a striker replacement and no Romeu. We'll never know if better recruitment would have got us a bit of momentum and reenergised him to continue.

No room for him in their match day squad, you answered your own question - Forest are monstrous. JWP has had a lost two years…..
Looking at the pace of the Forest goals, I didn't see any of their attacks that would have benefitted from JWP being there. He might have thought he was moving to a side that would have to hold on in games. Not the case.
9 hours ago, Galway saint said:so looks like we will all be back down in the championship again next season
not great for the health of the game
it is getting more difficult. But this season saw a side with money all recruitment and suicidal tactics, a side on their second consecutive promotion and one looking over their shoulders at PSR breaches. Other sides might have more of a chance.

Genuine question, is THB a good defender? I know he's a pretty good ball player, but what about all the without the ball stuff?
If he's having to man mark pacey, very strong and technically among the best forwards, then there are simply times when he's going to lose out.
That applies to all defenders. The team have to adapt to coping with opponents separating them out and then capitalising on man marking.
It's just another example of our tactics switching around, leaving some players looking a bit exposed. Inherent risks in the system.

The 8/9 year old next to me started crying when we scored. Couldn't work out whether someone had bumped in to him (it was a bit manic) or he was just crying at the realisation that he was going to watch us win a game!
Possibly the realisation of how long he would have to wait for his next win, dawned on him. 🙂

Fred we won as well today, see miracles can happen.
The great Sports Republic comeback is on.
We gave all the other teams a headstart before we decide to play.
Everyone else tries to win games through out the season but with rasmus our chief football strategist he realised it's better to be shit for half a season and then win more the rest of the season.
Thinking outside the box 🤣
Yup, the old lulling everyone into a sense of false security trick. Cunning of SR. 🙂

That bit closer to getting past the Derby record. And a league win for Juric against the side that got in a few players we could have got in ourselves.

C'mon. Get the win.

Peak Draper over peak Prutton.
Like others, I recall Prutton's promise, not being played all the time in his best position and then checking out with his suspension. Draper not fit, but probably still gets the nod as the player I'd depend on, if he was.

What’s the contract situations like with sulemana and onuachu ? Would be good to keep both as they are clearly better then our other options, they don’t have the previous championship stats like AA and Bbd but clearly better players at a higher level ..
personally I hope we keep most of the squad together bar the obvious ones that will go.. don’t need a lot of changes for next season it’s the season after where we need a overhaul
If you've not seen it, Over land and sea's excellent Keeping Track of the Contracts thread gives you loads of useful information. Just go to the first post in the thread which is updated when there are changes.

He only got a cameo this season to show prospective buyers he was fit to play, after the failed medical.
We'd not have seen him otherwise.
From his appearances, it's not raw talent that's the issue.
But if his attitude and professionalism is in doubt, then others are going to always be ahead of him. No manager here rates him.
The club clearly want him gone, and that can have a bearing too. He still has an accounting value, so they will look for something back, until that's no longer the case
His PL and Championship wages are a massive incentive to stay, and limit suitors too.
