  1. Even though i hate Redknapp (for various reasons including him calling me a "scruffy bastard" once outside SMS (I did call him a "Skate bastard" mind), you cannot help thinking (and knowing) that he was doing the job with one and a half hands tied behind his back. Lets face it, if it wasn't for RL and his 90,000 budget to get us back to the PL and his attempt to get SCW on board over Redknapp who knows where we might have gone under Redknapp.

Begrudingly he seems to do a good job almost everywhere, needs money though and clearly has no morals (couldn't believe it when he turned up in the sesspit's town hall to collect the 'freedom of the city' after walking out on them, the arrogance of the man is astounding) and he constantly ****s me off when he whines about other fans having a song about this or that etc. He is a smug chancer that likes to collect brown paper envelopes but , he does bloody good job at this football management lark!

  2. brilliant stuff, i bet the 88 who were at Norwich all remember it for that very reason, did you go to Middlesbrough away around 1992 on a tuesday when we had about 40 fans up there? (i wasnt but remember my dad telling me about it) i'm too young for that era really, was 11 in 1992 was at Chelsea away in the ZDS "area final" we had half the crowd at that, old crumbling stamford bridge, i did used to go to the programme shop and get every away programme from the games i didnt do and would marvel at fixtures like ZDS away when the programme would be about 5 pages and tiny crowds, i'm sure one of the older lads i know told a story about going to Bristol City away in the zds and the reserves were playing at swindon in the afternoon and they did both!!

I do remember going to Boro on a night game, course it was cold and yes, not many there if i remember so it could well have been that one. There was also Sundrland away on New Years day, at the old Roker Park, think Kevin Ball scored the only goal.

I have to say that they really were the good old days when football was football and players were people and fans were proper fans and not here for the prawn sandwiches or 'kids for quid' games. Still never went by train though, except to London games like QPR, cause you had to really.

  3. I'm impressed, you 88* maybe the only fans to have ever travelled away to a ZDS game anywhere in the country - other than a semi/final!

We never won it btw. *33,000 went to Wembley! :)

yeah, that is true, we were clearly the only fans that did travel that night though!

  4. hahaha, the name dropping of "geographically awkward places" just happens to be our next two away games, which i'm sure plenty of people on here have looked into being big saints fans.

your record from the early 90s is very admirable, and one which probably can't be matched by many so you would rank highly in my opinion for that (would like to hear more about Norwich in the ZDS), and the dedication shown, if anything, the fact you did that should make the fact people try to excuse themselves for games such as shrewsbury with the pitiful excuses of not having "thier seat" all the more laughable. We got much smaller crowds back in those days as well, and the reasons then are the same as now, people just cannot be bothered, get a big draw and suddenly everyone is interested.

Norwich away, weds night, 88 fans, ZDS, might have been the year we won it, though reckon it could have been previous year, made plymouth away in the same comp with a World class save from Tim.

After reading some opinions on here about the seats and in reflection, it is a **** poor reason, hold my hands up to that one, just aint got the enthusiasm as i did when watching the likes of MLT, Shearer, Case etc etc, maybe thats a reflection on todays game

  5. hahaha. nice one.

"loyal" and "can't be arsed" don't tend to fall into the same category.

Carlisle and Hartlepool away coming up in the next few weeks chaps...................

good for you mate, clearly you are the most loyal and bestest fan around and you like to prove that by name dropping some geographically awkward places to go to.

My record is 110 games home and away consecutively (norwich away on a weds in the zds being one), where do i rank? probably low down because i didnt go by train perhaps?

If there was a super fan award i'm sure you'd win it, if there was a 'big head patronising super fan', well you'd get my vote.

  6. I think that it will be instructive to show what was written on the OS so that some can attempt to see whether there are other interpretations or nuances that can be applied to it.

"Bearing in mind the opposition and the number of other significant home matches during November, the Club had wished to push through discounted rates for this match, in order to reward our most loyal fans.

However, our opponents from League Two, were looking to cash in their trip to St Mary's by charging both sets of fans full price tickets, an over ambitions move designed only to line their own pockets.

As no compromise was able to be reached, the matter was handed over to the FA and the club are pleased to announce that they have sided with Saints. We are extremely grateful to the FA for agreeing that the club's initial pricing structure represents a fair and honest option for both Saints and Shrews fans."

So the price was set by the FA and the OS confirmed that.

The line about "bearing in mind the opposition" has to be taken together with the "number of other significant matches in November" What was meant was that because there were a lot of other important matches in November, the Club recognised that it might be difficult to pursuade fans to cough up the extra cash to attend this match unless it was priced realistically.

Can anybody on here justify why the game should be priced at normal match level prices for League One when we are playing a League Two side? Can anybody gain any further justification for the prices being set at that level just because it will be helpful to the finances of that lower league Club, even though it would mean that our own attendances will be reduced because many just "can't be bothered" to go and watch us play Shrewsbury" at those prices?

The Club had attempted to do our fans a favour and to encourage larger attendances through fairer prices. It must also be pointed out that many Shrewsbury fans might also be thankful that the prices are set at a reasonable level too and I doubt that many of them will be militating that they ought to be paying £25 for the privilege of playing a third division club in the early rounds of the FA Cup.

The statement aIso makes it clear that the Club had tried to reach a compromise with Shrewsbury over the pricing, but some seem to automatically assume that we are entirely at fault because nothing could be agreed.

It saddens me that some seem to prefer to take the stance in favour of rival managments over our own people.

think you have missed the crucial point here, no one is arguing that NC was effectively right in what his point was, and that he was trying to do us a favour etc. but the real point is the words he used which you have conveniently not commented on.

  7. Stop with the threats of violence FFS, it's really quite pathetic.

yeah, you're right but you have deleted my point about the word 'mong', so you clearly do not tolerate racist, homophobic abuse but you are saying its alright to call someone a spastic on this forum, yeah?

  8. You're all over the place here it seems.

I see nothing wrong in somebody encouraging others to attend. Some waiverers like to have a bit of encouragement to go, but others can't be bothered like you.

Frankly I'm amazed that anybody would be embarrassed by the response that the club gave Shrewsbury. If they hadn't insisted on increasing the ticket price by 50% then we would not have had people on here moaning about the ticket price. Just what was disrespectful in the statement of the obvious, that they were not exactly the big name draw and therefore we were inclined to reduce the ticket price as an incentive for our fans "to be bothered"? And I wonder whether you realise the irony of you then saying that you won't be going because the match has a non-league feel about it?

As to whether Cortese's response showed a lack of class and professionalism, I don't see it at all. It might have smacked of him being a bit peeved because it scuppered our plans to offer our own fans a decent price in order to get the support increased, but if you prefer to support the management of the other club over ours, then go ahead.

Listen, if NC has said it how it was then fine, but saying stuff like "they were trying to line their own pockets...", well I dont think thats right, he didn't need to add those sort of comments on really. Its not a case of supporting another teams management as you put, its just it wasnt so long ago that we were collecting money to stay afloat, not every club has the resources that we do and you cant blame them for trying to cash in on a big draw for them.

  9. i have more respect for fans who go regularly than those who don't "because they cant be bothered with the 1st round of the cup"

you can find the elite at the northern away games on the train.

so to be a 'true' supporter you have to go by train? Give it up mate!

  10. it's a right?

have a word with yourself and ask if you are being realistic, some people are so precious, almost like the league of gentlemen don't let anyone else touch their special seat!!

I used the JPT last year as a chance to sit in a few different areas of the ground.

i would prefer away games in the cup, chance to do a few new grounds, but ultimately want to have a decent cup run and get through a few rounds, a lot of you are so short sighted think about games like Middlesbrough v Chesterfield, one of the greatest cup semi finals i can remember, and Wycombe playing Liverpool in the semi final at Villa Park, with a decent draw we can still have a good cup run regardless of the division we are in.

yeah, might happen and then we'll all be wanting to go, thats football supporters for you. Good luck to you if you want to go every game come what may, used to be like that myself back in the 90's (glad it was then and not now), but to have a go at people who say their reason for not going, well....

  11. you can still sit on the halfway line, you can still buy tickets with your mates. get a grip and stop looking for excuses not to go.

its not looking for excuses, clearly some people dont want to go. It may be that the fact you can't sit where you usually sit is a deciding factor, think everyone has the right to assess the pros and cons of going on Saturday and make up their own mind.

Pros - Its Saints, we support the team

Cons - We are playing a team a div below us, maybe it wont be that competitve

    Pro - Its only £15

Cons - ST holders only pay that for league games that mean so much more

Pro - Its the FA Cup

Cons - Its not that important, we aint going to win it so what is the point (it is sad that this great competition has evolved into a season bit part but thats the way it seems to be these days)?

Pro - Can't think of any more

Cons - Half empty stadium, no atmosphere, sitting in a stand you dont want to otherwise you would have got your ST in it originally, boring game probably, second string team, I could go on........

  12. Deciding not to go to a particular game becuase you can't sit in your usual seat is sad.

no, its a right, its an expression of desire, people might think writing on this forum is sad.

  13. £15 is too expensive for the 1st round of the FA cup. It only costs a few more quid to go to a league game. If tickets were a tenner or less I would have been more tempted.

I have paid £7.50 for the tickets to Oldham and Dag with my mates season ticket and I think deals like this should be done far more often, the attendance and atmosphere at both games was a lot better than expected.

yeah, great, lets get all the people that dont stump up for ST's even more tickets cheaper than my pre-purchased one. Once in a while maybe but if it happens much more then clearly there are going to better options than buying a ST.

  14. Went and got my tickets for Sat yesterday and was told that sales have been very poor.

Get your mates to come and bring the kids cheap game good day out.

Ive got the missus coming for the first time hope she gets bitten by the sat afternoon bug :D

why do people have to come on here and encourage people to go? I think most people have their own minds and dont need someone (who is hoping his wife will like so she comes again???) to say "come on guys......".

I was embarrassed as a Saints fans in the way NC beliiteld Shrewsbury because they wanted to earn a few quid, a niave view perhaps but all the same they were entitled to ask. His reply was very disrespectful and showed a complete lack of class and professionalism.

I, llike a lot of others simply can't be bothered and I dont think opening two stands helps, as well as not having the chance to book your own seat. If I want to sit in a stadium watching a mathch that has a non league feel about it then I might as well go to Eastleigh and save a journey.

  15. Sitting in traffic on Stoneham Lane and I politely lets this big Range Rover out of the Concorde car park (then noticing he wason the phone so he never even thanked or acknowledged me the way you do), follows it to the M27 roundabout and as we split into two lanes I look into his motor and its only ****ing Hermann Hreiðarsson! How on earth am I ever going to live with myself, doing a Skate a favour, and a player at that.

Last time I had contact with one of their players I hit him, though his mates then hit me, and kicked me, long time ago now, Warren Aspinall, outside Martines nightclub in Eastleigh, oh they were the days.......
