One thing that really makes me laugh is when people say "ah, but the Carroll transfer wasn't so bad because Liverpool sold Torres for fifty million". That makes it worse in my opinion. Someone gives you fifty million quid and the first thing you do is spunk 35 mil on a player like Carroll. No disrespect to the lad - I actually want him to come good and do well. I don't think anyone is going to spend 35M or more on him though. Dalglish spent £35M on a ( being generous ) £15M player. Shocking piece of business.
-
I'm not sure Adkins needs another couple of years to have a go. If he does, maybe Cortese should bin him and get someone with Premiership experience. I hear Alex McLeish and Kenny Dalglish are available Joshing aside, you're probably right.
-
Wow. Can't get out of League One and potentially landing a Prem job.
-
They lost nine games in a row, but I take your point. A lot of Liverpool fans on Twitter are going mental about it. Martinez not big enough for them, apparently Big enough for the owners. My point is, if Martinez is under consideration, then why wouldn't they look at Adkins?
-
Liverpool FC have stated that they are interviewing a number of candidates. @DrWho - are you feeling any more certain about your prediction that Liverpool will hire a big name manager? They're confirmed as interested in Martinez, and while he's well-liked, the only thing he's actually won is league one promotion. Nige has won four promotions in five years at two different clubs. The only advantage that Martinez has over him is top-flight experience, and let's face it, Wigan were not great over the season.

If you fancy a laugh, the #lfc feed on Twitter is fecking hilarious atm. A few sensible people but many on meltdown!

@DuckerTheTimes Dave Whelan has confirmed to The Times that #LFC have asked for permission to speak to Roberto Martinez. "It is true," Whelan said.

Summer 2012 HCDAJFU Thread - Premier League Special Edition
pap replied to Jimmy_D's topic in The Saints
Brilliant! They did a piece on the Football Ramble podcast about the true age of Nwa.nko Kanu. One of the presenters is a skate, and made a wry remark about Kanu being really good at the start of the season, but knackered at the end. He also said that he'd spoken to one of Kanu's physiotherapists, who reckoned that Kanu was 48! Finally, lots of Pompey kids born in the year that he scored the winning FA Cup goal have the middle name Nwan.kwo. Warms the cockles, that one. Pompey fans writing wa.nk on their own kids' birth certificates. -
If they employ a big name manager, how much do you think that will cost FSG? There is possible compensation if they're poaching a manager from another club. Most would want assurances on decent resources to chase their own targets. Liverpool's transfer budget for next year is 30M. Not sure that is going to be enough to tempt the biggest names. AVB looks to be the biggest name they are likely to get. Not sure that the likes of Klopp, etc - are going to want to swap the Champions League to be the nth person to try and revive Liverpool's flagging fortunes. LFC may do well looking at Frank De Boer - won the Eredivise twice in a row now, and might see Anfield as a step up.
-
AVB's agent has said that there has been no contact with LFC, but AVB considers it an 'appealing position'.
-
Does that mean that Adkins is 1.6 million times more likely to get the LFC job than billion-to-one Pardew was to get Newcastle?
-
So the thread should be closed based on speculation? There's a certain symmetry to it. It was opened based on speculation too.

http://footballburp.com/news/liverpool-supporters-confirm-guardiola-interest/ Guardiola will apparently do for Liverpool fans Arf!

I'm ITK, and so's my wife*. * none of that was true
-
No-one knows. Not only a great QOTSA song, but also a true statement here.
-
Does seem an odd thing for their MD to say. If they are looking at people without top-flight experience, then they probably are considering Nigel for their shortlist.
-
http://www.itv.com/news/granada/update/2012-05-17/liverpool-to-make-swift-appointment/ Never look at a manager without top-flight experience?
-
Yeah, it's odd. Everyone is speculating, and that's fair enough. Not quite sure why the abuse/sarcasm is justified.
-
It is rather telling that he didn't start a similar thread on the UI, where he believes more people respect his opinion
-
I'm not sure that FSG are operating off of "received wisdom" like this. Indications are that they are keen on up and coming managers.
-
Pretty much my point with actual examples
-
tbh, there is uncertainty at the club full stop. A nice big press conference with a clear statement from the Liebherr family would scotch a ton of rumours in one fell swoop.
-
I've already phoned the Liverpool Echo and ruled myself out of contention. Probably too late for that news to hit the midday edition.
-
It's good analysis, Kev. Based on recent information, I'd say that you're almost certainly right. Historically though, can you think of another big club that has given as many chances to people with no top-flight experience?
