For my benefit, can you let me know whether you're being sarcastic about CB Fry's comment? I have to say, I'm not quite as good at remembering people's track records.
-
Believe something else, then.

Someone posted an interview on here some months back. Wasn't Nigel's usual style of interview - they hit him with some left-field questions, and the subject of the Liverpool job came up ( admittedly in the context of wishful thinking ). Pretty clear from his responses that LFC is his dream job. The one thing to remember in all of this is that FSG are now taking their cues from David Dein, erstwhile of Arsenal and employed at LFC as a consultant. To me, that screams "long term project".
-
Can you explain how I do that and still post? FWIW, I don't actually think this is as bonkers as some are making out. However, the only way I could see it happening is if Nige was flanked with a big-name supporting team for DoF, etc. They could sell it as "we're rebuilding the bootroom culture", etc.
-
Don't think there is any need to issue a rebuttal. So far, the only "evidence" I've seen are yours and CB Fry's accounts, plus a few Saints fans on Twitter saying "Hands off Nigel Adkins!" Not saying that you were wrong to post what you heard, btw. Just saying that no-one out there seems to be taking it remotely seriously.
-
According to your source, he has already been approached! Think Nige will take several weeks making up his mind?
-
Disagree. The thread ends when:- a) Nige rules himself out of job in statement (not going to happen, as people will think he's a mentalist if he says that in public) or b) Liverpool picks a new manager.
-
And that's fair enough. The title of this thread is "Liverpool approach Adkins". The vast majority of this thread is an argument that has happened in tons of other threads. Football fans make unrealistic assessment of own chances shocker. I would humbly suggest that if this sort of thing gets your goat, you probably shouldn't visit football forums. Changing teams won't help either. I've read other fans boards. There's an element of that on all of them. Why are you so miffed about it anyway?
-
As I said earlier in this thread, bookies aren't often wrong. As a Saints fan, I hope they're right.
-
What are you basing your assessments on? I honestly couldn't say what is going to happen to the club in five years because I have very little information to go on. Neither does anyone else on here.
-
And would be a little better if we didn't have the same junior grade bickering on the same point across loads of different threads. Especially when no-one has any evidence either way. It would be nice to see Turkish and his other accounts diversify their interests.
-
Going off-topic (I think): With respect to the "Saints challenging for CL qualification in 5 years" ( example ) argument - everyone is talking crap. Turkish doesn't know that we won't be qualifying for CL. The optimists don't know that we will. Turkish: Why not just press the deluded for a hard date? If said date arrives, bump the thread and bask in the glory of being right on an Internet forum. This approach has several advantages, not least the fact that you can all shut the f*ck up until one of you is right.

Well, it's a change from stadium sizes, I suppose
-
In the unlikely event that Liverpool offered Adkins the job, he'd be gone in a heartbeat. I don't feel the same way about the Villa position.
-
The press seems to be hot on AvB as new Liverpool manager.
-
Sure, send me the £100 and I'll happily recommend a good watch. What's your price range?
-
Spot on, Lord D. I'm reading the scouse forum at the moment as it goes. They have some rather colourful posters on there. So far, a lot of them want Rafa. Some have even mentioned that he is local. How is that really relevant? Surely any incoming manager would move to the area? Some want Klopp, but many have said that's unrealistic. Many of them consider Martinez, Rogers and Lambert to be flavour of the month managers. Interestingly, David Dein has been hired as a consultant at LFC. FSG are basically having a complete clear-out at the moment. I've a sneaking suspicion that this has been in planning for months, and that they already know who their new management team is going to be.
-
I don't think Adkins would go to Villa. He's shrewder than that. Chairman doesn't want to seem to spend money and the club doesn't seem to mind selling its better players. There are clear constraints on the potential success he might have. As for why Martinez didn't go, I suspect it's a bit of that and a bit of loyalty. If you're looking to cement your reputation as a top quality manager, Villa wouldn't be your first destination.
-
Can I suggest "Bickering with a garnish of speculation" as the new thread title? Sounds classy.
-
You're being robbed, mate! Still 66/1 with Bet Victor.
-
A better comparison might be Manchester United's appointment of Alex Ferguson. They were in the crap at the time ( 21st in League when he took over ) and his experience was all north of the border. Liverpool are up crap creek right now. You have to ask whether the likes of Guardiola or Mourinho would even go there right now. I get where you're coming from - the fans have a great sense of expectation and an inflated opinion of where their club sits in the world. Living here, I know that better than most. I'm not so sure that the American owners are going to dispense with sense as readily as Reds supporters. I totally agree that there'll be uproar amongst some fans if Liverpool do go for a lesser known manager, but they're not all rabid dogs when it comes to footy - some would welcome an up and coming, hungry manager. That said, the bookies aren't often wrong, so I suspect you're aren't either.
-
A sentiment I share. I've got £20 down at 66/1.
-
Really depends on how much money they're looking to spend. FSG spent a wad on players for Dalglish, and sure, they can recoup some of that money back through player sales, but after this season, the only player they can truly cash in on is Suarez - the absolute last player they want to sell. So let's talk "big manager". Possible compensation and the contract would need to be bloody attractive for the person to take the job on, and no doubt FSG will have to open their wallets again. If they are really do want CL qualification next year, option one is to spend big, and make a ton of losses on money already spent. If they take that option, then you are 100% correct. Nige has no change. Option two is to take a gamble on someone less pricey, with a view to getting the most out of their existing players. If they're thinking along those lines, maybe a wee gamble, then they'd be mad not to look at Nige, imo. He's a Liverpool supporter, local lad and his worst year was getting relegated with a team he'd taken up the year before.
