and had a enthusiastic and supportive crowd behind them, lethargy was in abundance in the home stands too

We do seem a bit collectively broken, hardly surprising given the steady decline , that's why a prefer away games, much more positive atmosphere from our supporters.

Aribo is shit. He has been since he joined, his two zig-zag goals which on both occasions he overdid have covered up how lazy he really is.

I hope someone has a word with Adams, so effing selfish yesterday, sure he’s on a hat-trick but he’ll do himself no favours. Team game.

The thing is, he could have had a hat-trick if he'd hit it on the first or second opportunity, it seemed he was showboating.

I watched in disbelief the amount of aimless long balls being punted by the three centre backs during the first half. It was excruciating to watch.

We looked much more comfortable with a back four even though all four centre backs looked well off the pace.

Midfield is a major problem. There is nothing there. JWP looks a shadow of his former self. AMN was woeful. He doesn't do the pivot job like Lavia does. You watch him closely and he will 7/10 times place himself so that there is no clear passing pathway to him.

Without Che we would be doomed, that said he's not a natural finisher by any stretch so we desperately need a quality striker partner for him. Che and Ings complimented each others styles and we need a partnership like that to stand any chance of staying up. Adam Armstrong is trash. Offers absolutely nothing.

Stu Armstrong and edozie certainly brought some imagination and bravery. Aribo but be bad in training if he's not getting any minutes.

I think Aribo is a complete dud.

Rusty was exactly how someone behind me described us, probably right when you think we often start slowly at start of the season good to get first game back out of the way.

It reminded me of a lethargic early pre season game, which in some ways it was, the difference is the opposition were fully up to speed.

Having read through the bbc thread and on here, seems like a very worrying performance. Concede to Brighton early and the game will be over by half time. Do not see us staying up unless a miracle happens. Difficult to see where the next league win will come from. I said 2 - 1 to a mate, but was really hoping for a lot better against a league 1 side.

I wouldn’t read too much into that game, a very rusty Saints side who haven’t  played for weeks with  a new manager who is only just getting to know his players. We know we need to invest heavily.

  6. On the upside, I couldn’t be bothered to go, so here I am, sitting comfortably in my reclining chair, contemplating a drink of something alcoholic before retiring to bed. Thereby avoiding a half hour walk to the car and a traffic jam on Millbrook road. You see, there is always a positive that can be taken.

Could be the start of a new craze at football

Well they need to make up their minds, i was told i'm not allowed to get my winkie out at football anymore in no uncertain terms, so if it's OK for women to expose themselves I demand the right to be treated equally, furthermore I insist they lift the "order"

How do you know it was forced? You seem to have a tremendous lack of empathy to human emotions. Which is interesting as this is similar behaviour patterns to a former poster.

Are you on the twarpath again?

    Not sure I agree.

I think most people are underwhelmed because of his pedigree but hope he can do it for us. Surely that is a completely fair reaction to someone who has never managed at the top level anywhere.

I’m not sure I’ve heard many (if any) people write him off as a poor appointment.

My opinion is pretty much the same. That he’ll do a good job to keep us in the league, unless we sign a quality striker. I’d be surprised if he can do a better job than Ralph.

I'd be surprised if he couldn't and doesn't.

The fact the panels are quota driven isn't the problem, it's that they fill them with utter numpties who have no idea what they're talking about. Don't care if they're black, have a vagina, are wearing a turban, or all three, I just want some competent analysis.

    I vote the last one.

Yes that was another shocker. Think I’d rather have the vuvuzelas than this silence.

Sorry, can’t agree, couldn’t even bring myself to watch it with that cacophony, absolutely ruined it. I also wonder if the local tv production makes the best of any atmosphere, we sure do, when I was at Anfield a few weeks back you could have had a chat from one stand to another, when I watched motd it sounded like a cracking atmosphere.

Unfortunately without a couple of new players I'm not sure this group can be completely different.

Opportunities defensively and in midfield for certain but in attack the players try hard enough they just aren't in most cases of the quality needed.

Players like Elyounoussi and Adam Armstrong will never worry defences at this level (and part of the problem is that I think they know it).

I remain blindly optimistic that NJ will get more out of the squad than Ralph did over the last year, and the club will pull a rabbit out of the hat regarding adding to the squad, there is too much at stake for them not to take decisive action.

This thread has reminded me what a welcome distraction the WC has been. I'm not looking forward to the restart at all.

The opposite is true for me so far, the WC is leaving me stone cold up to now,  that may change as England bumble their way through the knockout stages.  Right now, In the  depths of winter, I'm really missing Saints and the live PL games. On the upside it gives NJ his own pre season to get things sorted.

Southgate will be over the moon with a clean sheet

I think he will, I was worried when he was so upset  by conceding two goals against Iran when we had scored six, I thought he might prioritise not conceding, which we just about did. I detest the man.
