There is a line of argument for getting rid of the UK nuclear arsenal, but it depends in part on trusting the US to be willing to commit theirs to a European conflict. It would be nice if there were no such weapons anywhere in the World, but that particular genie cannot be put back in it's bottle.

What line of argument? Does anyone think Ukraine would be in the same situation now if they hadn’t given up their nukes in exchange for paper guarantees from Russia, US and UK?

That's a really bad sound mix. Normally when you get an aging star whose voice isnt what it was they are carried by good backing singers. She's got four but you can hardly hear them.

I'm not convinced the war will end with his demise, I'm sure there are other gangsters in the background equally as bad if not worse just waiting to take the reigns, I can imagine the only people able to pull off getting rid of him aren't going to be particularly moderate

I'm not expecting anybody apart from a gangster to take over. But it will likely be a rational one interested in money and power, which is fine. Just like Putin used to be before he got bored with money, houses, boats and hunting. Then he started killing people to get his jollies, more blatant and brazen every time when no-one stopped him.

Something has to end/reduce this soon.  Either a ceasefire (with Ukraine conceding something), or Putins demise!

It's going to be his demise. He has royally fucked Russia. It's not the fact of the war it's the utter cack handed management of it - alienating the softer more Russia friendly European allies by targetting shopping malls and apartment blocks and pissing around with gas supplies just enough to irritate people but not have a strategic effect.

I genuinely don't understand the logic behind being opposed to tactical voting.  We have FPTP, it's literally the right thing to do.

Daily Mail: Labour's 'grubby backroom pact' with the Liberal Democrats could lead to a 'coalition of chaos' with Sir Keir Starmer as Prime Minister, Tories warn

Totally different to the fantastic squeaky clean coalition of charisma that Cameron's Conservatives had with the Liberal Democrats ofc.

  6. Not really. There clearly are additional costs, delays and paperwork associated with being outside the single market. That was why Thatcher the great free marketeer was so keen on creating it. It might be possible to argue the additional costs are worth it because of the sunny uplands and future honey, but no one seriously argues the costs aren’t there

As an importer, I can say that is utter tosh.

Pretty much every added cost is universally international. From the costs of Cardboard due to the paper shortages, to the cost of shipping due to volumes and routes being all over the place. and mostly due to Lockdown, the staggered restarts of production and the inability to be able to work out how much of an item is needed in the supply chain.

worth comparing food inflation to the EU

Did you not understand the article? It was clearly about Brexit reducing Britain's competiveness, reduction in rexports and British people losing income. It didnt mention the price of imported fruit and veg.

Ok I agree I was wrong to say that, and unusual for me to give such an opinion, but I believe he has hurt my children and grandchildren's future massively. Someone who does that does not get my best wishes.

Perhaps not killed. Maybe horribly disfigured so that no-one would vote for him. Maybe like a frog or something. Yep looking like a frog would definitely stop him getting elected.

lol, your trying to cover his bum. Do you eat it?

Leavers tried to leave the EU before the EU existed.. Ok.... right!

Told you, ill get a Vicky pollard reply... This is it..

Do you actually have a point and know what it is? What is it you are claiming? that nobody wanted to leave before 1993 or that Britain's membership of Europe pre 1993 and post 1993 have nothing to do with each other? Or some other desperate carp?

Learn to use google........... Before 1993 it was not the european union.

So who is the thick one?

Whitey simply said we've had over 40 years of leavers moaning. He was correct. You said something you thought was smart but was dumb - which is the habit of thick people - and got pulled up on it. Then you doubled down and tried to make a desperate distinction about 1993 that wasnt part of his point - and ended up looking even more stupid. You want to stop now or or take another IQ hit?

Im going to be looking into this when i change my car. The only thing that concerns me is the battery range. Think a hybrid would suit me better. Are the claims that the TCO is significantly lower?

If you get a plug in hybrid (PHEV) you get the best of both.

I refer you to the earlier depressing point about the media.

If you can make up stuff that is never properly challenged or corrected, that is sufficient to fool enough voters to win elections.

The current policy is to boldly announce that we lead the world in everything - say it enough times and it becomes true, anyone who denies it is talking Britain down and will be branded by the Sun, the Mail and the Express as a UK-hating terrorist-sympathiser or a traitor.

Fact-free area, job done - no policy ideas required, welcome to Politics 2022.

The current Government have disturbingly similar tactics to Putin, albeit 10 years behind. The insistence that everything is going swimmingly to plan,  constant counter narratives , attacks on those parts of media who don’t parrot their views, the lying, the breaking of agreements and promises and the refusal to be held to account.

I would never have believed it could happen here but Johnson has gradually dismantled many of the norms that protected us.

Риа новости are great, they appeared to have a rather spirited discussion today about whether a public hanging or quartering would be more appropriate.

They've turned into a parody of themselves. It's almost become anti propaganda - so comicly extreme it just makes the regime look deranged

    Anyway, back on topic...

I've just been to visit my mum in hospital and she asked me to pick her up today's Daily Mail. I've told her on previous occasions that I would never dirty my fingers by even touching it let alone be seen buying it, but as she's in hospital and thoroughly bored I reluctantly agreed.

Fuck me. Every other paper (except the Express, of course) ran with a headline about how bad a result last night was for Johnson, and this is their take:

Obviously the Mail has always been Tory central but its taken on a more nasty, cultish, propaganda tone since the new editor Ted Verity took over. I used to read it a bit because its one of the relatively few free access online news sites. I've stopped since it took another lurch towards trash.
