  1. he actually doesn't do this to generate controversy like the other presenters do. He is not a presenter, just a poor journalist with suspect contacts. I don't think he says stuff to get a response but rather, is just too stupid to know when to get your gob shut on a public forum.

  2. I got married at the Ice Hotel , well up north.

After the church and reception in the evening, she went back to our chalet , i went to the ice bar!

When the couple i stood talking to in there found out it was my wedding night they were horrified that i was there at the bar (ice shots :) )and not with the misses.

    Was i wrong?

What does your wife look like?

  3. While on face value this all seems like incompetence on the part of the defence planners what the article really does is betray the incompetence or lack of knowledge of its author and commentators. All of the arguments for CATOBAR (CATS and TRAPS) are based on the greater capability of the F35C over the F35B and the view that during the 50 yr service life of the QEC ships manned strike aircraft will remain the primary combat delivery platform. On the first point it seems an easy choice however we all know that this is not the case, the SDSR case for the F35C variant was flawed and skewed by RAF doctrine stuck in 1940s and a SoS who was at best out of his depth and at worst uninterested. On point b there is a very real possibility that the F35 will be the last manned combat aircraft this country buys, UAV's will in 20 years be the front line combat platform of choice, these do not need CATS and TRAPS so investing in them for a single platform is very questionable. You refer to the F18 Hornet, oh how the RAF would love them, they are obsolete (still capable but not the future) and will end there days filling secondary combat support roles and in the inventory of 2nd division defence forces. As to the paint issue and the flight deck melting LOL, the exhaust may be hotter compared to say a Buccaneer or F4 Phantom (both of which we have successfully operated without melting decks) he doesn’t provide any figures, but his use of the term fumes is the key to his own betrayal and confirms he is talking out of his own fume generator, oh and finnaly why do we have to beg the Americans for the paint?

    Good post.

There are also well advanced carrier based UAV prototypes.

I don't get how the DM continues to embellish negative articles about Britain. Any chance of having a dig and they take it.

Glad I can choose to read it on-line rather than pay for it.

  4. Having binned three shirts today because they have got ragged about the collar and look a bit discoloured I'm interested to learn from other posters who have to wear formal work attire what shirt brands you prefer for smartness and longevity.

I've tended to mix it about based on sales and opportunistic purchases but most of my shirts in recent years have come from M&S, simply because I hate shopping for clothes so don't go elsewhere much for such items.

M&S shirts seem ok to me but not that great. The quality seems to differ quite a lot too. I have bought two shirts recently online from Charles Tyrwhitt which seem better quality but yet to discover how they last.

For ease I normally wear single cuffs, but sometimes prefer double cuffs for an outbound client trip.

Any tips for decent quality and formal style shirts?

Tyrells used to be pretty good but if you want consistant quality you should try shirts made in USA.

Nordstroms is my choice and they usually last 2 years before I think about giving them a red card.

Maybe tricky to iron but over here everyone sends to the cleaners.

  5. One of the good old boys for sure.

I remember seeing him and Channon drinking at the Southampton Part hotel many times early Saturday evening.

Who is the author (Bryan Cooney)?

  6. Incredible the power of the Premier league when I have the choice of watching 7 live games this morning, none of which are pay to view.

    Normally on a Saturday I get 3 and on a Sunday 2.

I know it's 'survival Sunday' but it's clear evidence of the worldwide appeal of the league. Sadly it's also a reflection on the power tv companies have on the game and why K.O at 3pm on a Saturday may be something of the past.
