  1. I must not have made it clear in my post on Wednesday, but I didn't want to say too much in case it jeopardised any potential ongoing talks with Jemal or Gorkss. Jemal was staying at Chilworth Manor with his agent Mohammed. He had been training with us, was expecting to sign on Tuesday but things broke down and he travelled to London City Airport late on Wednesday afternoon with his agent, for a flight back to Switzerland. They were funny characters (funny strange, not funny haha), they were evasive throughout their stay, lied about their whereabouts: said they were outside waiting for the taxi when they weren't, then said they were praying in the bushes when they weren't, didn't answer their room phone etc. When asked if he he had signed, Jemal said "No, finished, going home."

My impression of the pair of them were that they were difficult characters to get on with, had high self-opinions and were totally different to the rest of the squad. If they displayed these characteristics with Nicola then I would not be surprised if he tired of them and wouldn't have them calling all of the shots. If that's how things broke down, then I'm fully supportive of Cortese. Also, Jemal has one of those silly little wispy moustaches which have no place at this football club.

Meh, screw him then... We don't need billy big botos about ;)

  2. See above, I've said a few times that he improved from his early spells with us. I think he's been excellent over the past 2 years in particular. But the fact remains, he's had 2 seasons with us in teh Championship, one where we has very poor and one where we has very good. So, with that in mind, it's a bit ridiculous to say something like "if you doubt his ability in the Championship you're a plum".

I really am not attacking you here but he also won championship goalie of the year while at Ipswich followed admittedly by a torrid year with Sunderland in the prem, my point simply being that he has his good years and bad years like any player. He is however very experienced at this level and will know what is required of him and what to expect.

  3. It'd hardly rocket science, no. So I guess I must have been completely imagining the amount of criticism that he got from his own fans, was I? And if he was one of the best keepers in the division, why did he not play instead of Richard Wright, who we brought in?

Kelvin has very much improved as a keeper, as I've said. But let's not re-write history, he came in for a lot of criticism for his performances over an extended period of time in the Championship.

First season in the Championship he got a lot of deserved stick. You have to admit surely though that in our relegation season he was phenomenal? Player of the season if I recall right, (watch me be wrong :) )

  4. 24. 24. He has hardly started as a goalkeeper ffs.

He should have a good 10 years in him yet. I feel bad for Bart, he's a decent keeper, (probably too good to be mere backup,) but he's being kept out of the team by the more experienced Kelvin. I really hope he makes his name here and we don't end up playing him one day as he's also a great guy from what I've heard.

  5. I was thinking wage bill rather than in general. Fonte is on good wages so everyone seems to think - he wouldn't have left Palace for less I would say - and Gorkss won't be on less than £10-15k you'd imagine. Seaborne and Martin are on less I should think but if both arrive I can't imagine we'd keep both AND Jaidi. Butterfield, Harding and Richardson also have a lot of NPC experience and must be on competitive deals that increased with going up, don't know about Dickson's wages but I do rate him as a player. Cork signed on wages that must have been up there with Rickie and Fonte and Lallana plus Barnie probably got a rise. De Ridder also joined from the Dutch top flight. We have and are signing players of a good quality.

If, and this is a big if Gorkss arrives we'll have shot of Puncheon who I imagine is one of our best paid players, (the flops always are at this club :D )

  6. He would probably at least double his basic pay... At least. Let alone signing on fees, bonuses, image rights, living in London, working with some amazing players etc

And with said move, set himself up for life no matter what all at the age of 17

    Yes.. Tough choice

I love your new avatar :) And yes, the right choice much as we all hate to say it is to go join Arsenal, it's only older footballers who've earned their nest egg who really seem to desire to play week in and week out. However, if we offer him a better contract to induce him to stay then everybody wins.

  7. On his twitter "Proud to be a Saint, proud to have been a superboer,". Someone tell Oxo, that is how you treat a club if you want the supporters to remember you fondly, he seems like a really great guy and classy to show such respect to his old team.
