Saints have had a poor defence for quite a few years now despite some of the defenders being very good on paper. Whenever I've watched them I've always felt we could concede at any moment. To me the problem is the midfield, they don't provide enough cover for the back four. One example today was late in the second half when Dyer came back to defend and then just let his man go causing a mismatch.

Wild speculation here but maybe JP sees Pulis as a potential fullback rather than a midfielder?

I thought Diego Maradona was about 5' 4" as well.

I think he means they are okay for the odd game a season as emergency cover but not yet ready to be permanent members of the first team. Probably true but it relies on our CBs conveniently getting short-term injuries at different times - perhaps they could talk over diaries.
