  1. I remember Matthew Pinsent once saying that you lose about 5% of your fitness levels for every week you don't train. Or was it 10%

With 3 months off an athlete is likely to lose around 50% of their aerobic conditioning, so 5% per week sounds about right. If it's a linear loss, the most disciplined players should be reporting at approximately 70% of full fitness.

  2. High defensive line, central midfield workhorses and pacey wingers doubling as strikers - Brazil had everything spot on to ensure Spain never got into their hypnotic passing rhythm. Neymar and Hulk caused all sorts of problems for Arbeloa and Alba; Pique and Ramos didn't exactly cover themselves in glory either.

There's been a lot of chat about how the current iteration of Brazil is 'under par' (probably by people that take FIFA rankings seriously) but I think their play's been breathtaking at times and there's a great deal of promise for their generation. Strength in depth too. For me the standard of the Confeds has been a joy to watch, especially given the relatively low level of hype. Last night's final compared favourably with just about any World Cup of my lifetime.

  3. Surprise surprise, it looks better worn than draped across a box in a warehouse. I'm fine with both. They're just kits at the end of the day. Stripey socks, stripes (in kind) on the shirt and shorts. I'm sure we can soldier through a season with that.

£50 for a shirt is a bit rich mind, ST holder discount or not.

  4. Equally one sale will not make a difference either.

Which is probably what a large percentage of the fanbase will think, right before flocking to buy it. Initial outrage will just as predictably be followed by a mass of shirt sales.

For the record I'm quite keen on it.

  5. Not if you have a base level of savviness or common sense! Keep the OS up to date, don't download or respond to anything that sounds too good to be true. I run Lookout for the fact it can locate my phone - that it protects as an Antivirus is a bonus.

  6. I do some data reviewing for Saints on FIFA - am able to put forward upgrades or downgrades per attribute for our players, although I can't directly update them myself. Many people seem to concentrate on players' overall ratings but that's just calculated from their other stats.

If anybody has any suggestions (with statistical proof and/or links to back it up) I'm happy to put them forward to the editors. Was able to get Schneiderlin's stats significantly improved throughout last season because he performed so consistently well.

  7. We even made £100k off his sale and he'd only been with us seven months! I would only have been 10 years old at the time but I'll never forget his brace against Forest.

  8. that ain't fifa official website tho is it?

Certainly seems to be the case. Still, it's gone viral so you can't fault them for implementation.

  9. Saints 1965 Wolves 9-3 first game.

Suited and Booted book i was involved with Duncan Holley and David Bull, Saints football club official historians.

    Guess you never bought one.

Go to club shop and any Waterstones, Duncan and David would be happy, buy it!

Duncan will be more than pleased, he has spent a fortune and time on his findings.

He has also spent the last five years on "All the Saints"

Duncan is still working on this project night and day.

Buy 'Suited and Booted' then you can call yourself a TRUE SAINTS FAN.

That's as may be, but the threads you start on here are still utter drivel.

  10. You could also argue that in order to keep our best graduates such as Shaw we need to secure higher finishing positions in the league. That being the case, buying in quality now could be seen as a stop-gap until the club is more able to sustain itself.

  11. Wanyama really would be a coup. Considering that we have very little physicality in our squad he can add it in spades. The lad's not ridiculously built, but his strength belies that. Has a bit of an eye for goal too which, Morgan's purple patch last season aside, we have been lacking of late.

  12. Not really, no. In terms of a clubs identity, changing from red and white stripes to a predominately all red kit is a fairly major change.

Fair dos. Even stepping towards the emotional rather than logical end of the scale I'm happy with it, but then I'm big on clean, unfussy designs in my day job so that probably transfers to my taste. Each to their own of course.

  13. They probably didn't, I don't know. But change in colour of shorts is relatively minor compared to change in colour of the whole kit.

By the same logic, isn't a change in the colour of shorts from black to red relatively minor? As is the shirt going from red and white to... Oh, staying red and white, just a different configuration?

  14. To the point where you would buy it ?!

    Sure.

I understand what you are saying, but the vast majority of the fanbase simply were not alive back then. Therefore the associated identity of the club is red/white shirts, black shorts and white/red socks.

So when people say they want 'traditional' stripes, they basically mean "this kit doesn't look like the ones from when I was younger"? It does seem a little strange to be so attached to some parts of our history only to completely disregard others.

I wasn't yet born in 1985, but the Draper Tools kit introduced that year was fairly similar to what we're getting and I can't imagine there was such a fuss then. We've always played around with the usage of white on our kits.

Not saying that I wouldn't prefer a striped kit, although I would say I was becoming slightly bored with variations on the same theme. Change isn't always for the worse, nor does it have to be permanent.

  15. We paid in the region of £1.9m I believe. I'd say he's still worth that; if we let him go for little more than a million it would seem to suggest the club is keen to offload him. Sharp certainly did the job that was asked of him in the Championship but sentiment aside I guess we outgrew him. Top bloke though.

  16. Look if you lot want to meet up and play football with each other with your mboard user name on the back of your shirt then that's fine, it's just not the sort of thing I d do not anyone I know that has any social skills

Personally speaking I doubt I'll find the time to be honest. It's just strange that despite not wanting to get involved you feel the need to flaunt how superior that makes you. If you have so much disdain for the members of this 'mongboard', why spend so much time on it? Don't worry, that one's rhetorical.
