Huge credit to both Adkins and Cortese that they both rejected advances for Ox-C and also ensured he was happy to stay - as with Lallana.

Well put - what I seem to have been failing to get across

good post -
ok, want recent - use 4 games, takes us back to over a month ago, and the squad post transfer window - 8 points. Not saying we really should use 4 games any more than any other period, but shows how silly it is to get stressed with the 6 game form where a solitary defeat seperates us from rivals.
-
sorry all - laid up with dodgy stomach but boring myself now so will leave this thread!!
-
Ox-C is now the first choice winger, personally rate him higher than Antonio by some distance but know some don't. Both Forte and N'Geussan have played at higher level and have pedigree than Antonio did - and they are subs not first teamer. We had Otsemebor as RB this time last season!!!
-
agree - so include all of his games! Clearly better than rivals for 2nd!
-
and that is what those posts show he is doing!
-
Think you are right about my repetition! There are those who like Adkins and those who don't. As you say we cannot judge him against promotion until the end of the season, and until then both sides of this debate will probably hold their opinions. I am happy for him to continue as he has (would prefer better!) as the stats show he is gaining enough points not only at better rate than rivals but to overcome the slow start to the season. A short run of results can quickly swing that either way!
-
of course there are "ifs" - I still think 2nd is most likely but wouldn't be surprised if we finished a diappointing 4th. I have never thought it was in the bag. Recent current form? 8 points from last 4 games where 3 are away? Many more twists and turns yet!
-
see the league table since Adkins thread. Posts 90 and 94. 2nd is on target. Would be much happier if more comfortable but will be happy if we grind out automatic promotion this season. Three defeats and it will look very different, as it will for three wins, as is the nature of league football. All we can judge Adkins on is whether he gets us more points than the team in 3rd - so far he is.
-
would love stylish performances, but this season will gladly accept a manager who gets us more points than rivals for promotion - and so far he is.

When you are at the top, one defeat in 6 can throw the current form table. The form for the last six is purely down to the one defeat in the last 10 league games. As I posted on the Adkins thread: 9 points from last 6 games isn't great and wouldn't be enough if continued. A couple of our rivals for 2nd have managed 12 in 6 games -but we have had several away games. But form guide as a prediction for season, and a measure of where a manager has his teams could equally be done over more or less games: We have gained 4 from last 2 games - good. We have gained 8 from last 4 games (3 away) -good We have gained 21 from last 10 games - good. We have gained 40 from last 20 games - good We have gained 45 from 23 -good -

if we continue @ 1.9 points per game, our games in hand would take put us into 2nd place. If all teams continue at above rates we will be promoted with about 2 games to spare! Relax! -

is that I don't care about B'mth (or Brighton) any more than any other team. Only interest in this league is our position. Where as they are both very jealous of us, and their biggest pleasure this season is in comparison to us. Remember Cherries players and fans first celebraton song when they won promotion? Now you are going to believe us we are going to St Marys! Bless.

thats why every division finishes in exactly the order we expect as the teams with decent squads are guaranteed to get 2 points per game! (how many managers are managing that!?) -

expect you could have scored 20 goals this season as well with Lallana and Ox-c providing. -

don't apologise just because you are wrong -
since he has been here he has just about matched Brighton, and bettered all other teams. Promotion is still very achievable.

I was referring to his comment about sacking being for no reason by a whim. For what its worth, I don't think many would have done as well as Adkins - around 2 points a game from a team getting far less is good return
