  1. Bell in hitting-a-six shocker :o

Fair play to him, I'm one of his biggest critics but I just hope that when play resumes he can control his nerves and build a good partnership with Strauss - who is proving a bit of a talisman by leading from the front: again.

Bit peeved Bopara failed again - I haven't seen the wicket yet but I'm starting to get the feeling he is just not cut out for the high pressure Test games. He's a consistent failure in the big series and someone maybe with a more steely determination would be better suited.

Broad... hmmmm, he's quite useful for the bat and for that reason alone I think he's being retained. He's not bad against the lesser sides (like Bopara) but when it comes to the big series it appears he's just not ready. Maybe he needs to go back to County cricket for the last couple of tests and be replaced by a seasoned, fired-up campaigner like Sidebottom (maybe even Harmy?) for the run-in. Hopefully SB will find his 'next gear' in the next couple of years before the next Ashes series but he does look a bit short at the moment.

Not too worried about Cook though, to be honest. He's proven at Test Level but appears to have found himself in a bit of a sticky patch of late. Still, no reason or excuse to cull him... and he's still got another innings (potentially) to start scoring runs again.

I think we're very fortunate that even though we appear to be carrying two or three players, we are fortunate enough that the Aussies are carrying a couple more than us. If we play our cards right and make the right selections for last two tests, we'll get that urn back.

Optimistic shout I know but maybe, just maybe, if we can knock up in excess of 400 or so and have a right go at the Aussies on the fourth day then maybe we can extend our lead - and deservedly so. :D

As I pointed out above the bloke is only 24 and has only played eight tests, two against Australia so far, so if you are writing him of already who is the replacement we are ready to redicule after two match failures? Interesting you think Cook is nothing to be worried about but apart from his 95 at Lords his other four innings so far have averaged only 12, ok for Cook to be given loads of chances (and he is only proven at test level because he was given a run) but write of Bopara at the first attempt

  2. Agreed. Players like Bell get stick, but Bopara is just as bad IMO.

Does well against the lesser nations, but just isn't up for it against the top teams.

He has the talent just needs guidance in the right direction. As for not being up for it against the top teams he's only played 8 tests and is only 24 so it's a bit early to pass judgment.

  3. I meant , will it be at 10.30ish , like it normally is. Or if rain delays until 4 oclock, can they delay naming the team until 3.30

I thought the toss had to be before the start of the game regardless of the weather which means the teams have already been announced.

  4. ah yes, the chappie who played for us last season. took about 15 wickets in 5 twenty20 (or FP) games. stupid average - about 15 - too if i recall correctly

They have both played for us in the past.

  5. Well that's something that has been discussed. Yes, every golfer needs a coach. Because you need another pair of eyes to keep an eye on your technique while you're hitting shots. And another person can have a more objective view on your technique than yourself. Regarding him changing his technique.....a lot of people have said he shouldn't have changed, but he's always striving to be better. Even when he was completely dominant, in 2000/2001, he fought a hook and a block off the tee. So I guess he tried to fix that.

I think that's what makes great sportsmen great. They are never satisfied - they always want to improve. Bolt has a coach. So does Federer. There are very few who don't have a coach and/or a trainer.

Yep that goes for all sports including your favourites kayaking and canoeing :D

  6. Just because I know nothing about kayaking doesn't mean I know nothing about other sports. "Experiencing" a sport doesn't exactly qualify you for anything. If it does, then I'm also qualified to talk about kayaking. I've actually done quite a bit of kayaking when I was at school up in the Lake District. Both racing on a lake and slalom in a river. How much golf have you played?

I've Played golf for over 30 years and also done kayaking, if you have done both then we can agree on one thing and that kayaking requires a lot more physical and demanding effort than golf.

  7. I have mentioned Federer.

My opinion is that if we're talking about the greatest SPORTSMAN ever, not the greatest SPORTSMAN IN THEIR SPORT, you have to compare facts and figures. How else can you decipher who's the greatest? That's how the argument in the press about who is greater, Federer or Woods is made. Comparing Federer's grand slams against Woods' majors.

10 world titles in kayaking for Richard Fox is, no doubt, incredible in kayaking. I have no doubt about that because you've fought that point. But 14 Majors (and counting), and 6 or so world golf championships is more. Federer's 15 grand slams is more. The pro-Woods debate in the press is that Woods has more people to beat every tournament, Federer has to beat only 7 or 8.

I pointed out previously that Jack Nicklaus as winning more than 14 majors, surely then he is the greatest?

  8. saintwarwick and robsk II, the two kayak luvvies. please, get a room!

As I said try it and try researching the sport before passing judgment, I have experienced both so am qualified to pass judgment unlike you and your biased views towards the only sport you know anything about.

  9. Another ex-Saints player who is a Manager in Martin Foyle, wonder why no one backed him for the Saints job !

Perhaps we set our sights higher than conference standards!

  10. Nope....Just 3 more peeps at the top of their field to add to the near 'weekly' growing list of thousands of scientist's who are putting science before politics and 'tax payer' funded grant money

And what about the tens of thousands of scientists who disagree with you?

  11. Wow Robsk, you're really throwing your teddies out the cot aren't you!! Bless ya. For a retired sportsman, you must be what, in your 30's, 40's, 50's or even older? You should be embarrassed!

Oh and hang on, is that ANOTHER post where you failed to acknowledge your ridiculous original post that caused this argument?! Just for you, little boy, I'll post it again so you can have a read back. Here you are......

But it's me who lacks intelligence right? Hahaha, idiot.

Please, please tell me this is a joke? You're just trying to make a few people laugh aren't you?! If you ARE serious, then there's a member at my home golf club who is a top clinical psychologist. I'll ask him for his office number, and I can pass you on his information, and you should go see him. Because there is definitely some delusion and denial going on. There are 32,000 golf courses in the world, and 61.1 million people play golf worldwide. 300,000 approximately of these play professionally. And there are approximately 3 million that play golf worldwide to a high standard at the amateur level, whether that be playing amateur tournaments regionally, nationally and internationally, or golf in a team environment at university, nationally or internationally, or in their region. Are you trying to tell me anything close to 300,000 people kayak professionally?! Or there are millions of amateur kayakers who compete in tournaments?! You're having a ****ing laugh!!

You're losing the tiny bit of credibility you had to begin with now. And I'm bored of reading the nonsense that you're writing. I'm guessing you're not very well educated and not very intelligent, and I feel a bit embarrassed for you to be honest. So I'm not going to let you bother me anymore. If I laugh any louder at the rubbish you're spouting, I'll strain an intercostal muscle or something. So I'm not going to respond any further to this thread. I'm at peace with my opinion - my opinion is shared by millions (Joe Public as well as the sports media) for a reason. And that's good enough for me.

    This discussion is over.

I guess the feeling is mutual, as for the discussion being over that is only because you don't like real facts thrown at you.

  12. I have posted before that we need to build for the Premiership. Most players are bought in on 2/3 year contracts.....therefore, any players signed, must be good enough for the CCC, and possibly higher. Otherwise we will have to change the squad (possibly) every season over the next 3 years. As we know, getting rid of players in contract can be a very hard thing to do.......so is JP Saeijs really Premiership standard??

He's only a youngster and played very well last season in most of the games he played in, will only get better imo.

  13. Oh dear....Things just aint going right for big Al these days....No wonder he's been keeping so quiet recently

3 of Australia's most respected scientists complete a recent study and conclude.....

"That mean global tropospheric temperature has for the last 50 years fallen and risen in close accord with the SOI of 5–7 months earlier shows the potential of natural forcing mechanisms to account for most of the temperature variation."

    As for Al........LMFAO, Poor boy......http://www.climatedepot.com/a/2071/Gores-hometown-in-Summer-Shiver-Nashvilles-Record-Cold-Breaks-1877-Temp-Record-Set-when-Rutherford-B-Hayes-was-President

Just remember folks, its perfectly ok to point and laugh at the 'man made global warming' wack jobs y'all come across from day to day...They bought all the ridicule heading their way entirely by themselves.......

Wow, a whole total of THREE scientists, it must be true then

  14. What a corking win for Cavendish today - absolutely no-one anywhere near him.

It's great seeing Britain finally having an impact on Le Tour. Excellent stuff. Contador a deserving winner.

Agree 100%, six tour wins out of 21 is awesome, did any other winners manage more than one win? Good to see Bradley Wiggins finishing 4th as well, nobody would of predicted that at the start.

  15. Only a friendly against an everage Scottish team.

The real effort should be made in 2 weeks for the Millwall match. Thats when it really matters, however with early August school holidays, money being tight ,early kick off - don't expect a sell out, more like 20K would be a decent gate. Perhaps we ought to start the campaign for Turn up for Millwall match now....

    20K would be great imo.
