  1. He knows no other club wanted to keep him after a loan spell and is out of contract this summer, if he was to get a new 2-3 yr deal my money is on him returning to his old ways.

Can you explain to me why he would want to return to being despised when the crowd are now chanting his name? In anybody's world that makes no sense at all. He's turned himself round and now it is time for the unforgiving (who of course have never anything wrong in their lives) to cut him some slack.

  2. People think Adkins as some sort of Gandalf or Hawking, he graduated from Salford with a degree in physiotherapy. Nothing wrong with that at all but quoting the Sun Tzu and deep thinking poems hardly inspires me and I doubt it has much effect on the players.

I very much doubt if he is interested in inspiring you or if he expects it to motivate his players, but I suspect it determines how HE goes about motivating his players.

  3. Yeah, we don't really know (*) why Pardew was sacked and presumably a non-disclosure agreement was signed that prevents fans ever knowing.

As for Adkins' attributed comment - its not like NA to be so disigenuous. Was he having a bad day? Or have the press attributed that comment to him falsely?

(*) If anyone feels they DO know, feel free to PM me.

I think that the reporter simply took Adkins' fairly guarded comments the way he wanted to. If you ask a question " Do you feels that you owe....?" and get anything other than a "yes", it will be regarded by your average story-seeking hack as a "No".

  4. Would like to see him get another shot in the PL, unfortunately every game is a must win at the moment and its too big a risk to play him at this level, I do think he may be good enough though

IN my opinion neither of the other two have shown themselves to be significantly better.

  5. He's done well. Our best results have come with 441/1. As a matter of interest Gazzaniga has been in goal in all the games we have picked up points.

If KD had committed the errors that Gazza has committed in the last two games he would have been slaughtered by some people not standing too far from here.

  6. The result is a great tribute to all the players who grafted out a deserved win when at times we were actually looking quite insecure. That is the reality. It was by no means as easy a win as the BBC report suggests, but this is no time for sourgrapes because we surely deserved an away win on merit at last and we were by far the better footballing side.

First, weaknesses. Saints players looked nervous and timid for much of the match. QPR outjumped us and tackled, intercepted and blocked better. (This must be the only reason that BBC stats gave QPR 53% possession). Their passing was less erratic than Saints in midfield, and they frequently so easily cut though our candyfloss defence via the wings time and time again.

In attack only Puncheon and Lallana were positive upfront. Only Puncheon's shooting looked dangerous. Too much negative interpassing when there were good opportunities to shoot. Lambo did not look fit, he was so slow. And at the back once again there was too much backtracking, relinquishing ground when there were opportunities to tackle.

We were not always on top and a better side would have capitalised on our mistakes. We will not benefit from such leniency v Newcastle.

From my viewpoint on the stands I did not expect us to hold on to our lead because we were giving the ball away too frequently in dangerous positions. That we did owes everything to Puncheon's determination and Cork's steel in midfield. But fair play to the team as we really are learning to fight to win back the ball. After the third goal, and for the last ten minutes, everyone relaxed and showed the world what a good footballing side we can be.

Well done guys! But pleeeeese get those frailties sorted by tomorrow week!

Fair play - you were there but your description seems at total odds with the Solent commentary. Merrington praised Saints for the confident way that they were playing even after the oppo scored>

  7. Ha, Hilarious

What the "footballing world" think is irrelevant to NA position, it's NC that matters.

I am convinced i.e. its only my opinion he's only still here because NC doesn't know or cant get who he wants in. Hardly a vote of confidence from NC.How does your opinion lead to NCs position???

Do you think he's happy losing 8 of our first 11 games?

Saying NC is happy for him to stay at the moment is true of course, but I think it's a bit like saying NC decides not to sack him at the moment.

NA is still here either way but the end result remains the same.

    h'mmmm

  8. last season they were (apparently) really really rubbish

play rubbish football with an utterly terrible manager

carroll is utter garbage and collins is a joke.

however, they are sitting nicely near the top end of the league with yet another win...4 points from 2 fixtures many saints fans would have written off completely....

they have hardly bought in worldys as players

what are they doing differently...what are they doing that is massively more successful than us..?

have we gotten THAT bad..? or have they gotten that much better than us..

crazy that in a few months, how things have changed..

Allardyce is far from a rubbish manager - as I suspect you also are hinting at. He took over Bolton in the Championship ( or whatever it was called then) and revolutionised their whole approach to all aspects of training, preparation and tactics. But can I point out that he got Bolton promoted to the Premiership, saw them relegated again, but because Bolton stuck by him, he got them promoted again and kept them comfortably in the premiership for a good many years. The wheels only came off their bus when he left.

  9. The point I'm trying to make (badly it seems) is that firing a manager doesn't always produce a better outcome, in fact, the statistics show that it often leads to a worse one. The sackings of both Wigley and Poortvliet weren't enough to save us from relegation in the respective seasons and while there may have been some improvement afterwards, it wasn't enough.

Firing a manager only guarantees upheaval, uncertainty and cost. Since it's impossible to prove a counterfactual, who knows what the result of not changing the management would have been.

Could a different manager be getting better results from our current squad? Maybe. It's certainly a lot easier to fire a manager than hire one.

And there's the rub. Delldays clearly thinks that there is one. I don't share his optimism about that.

  10. Agree that Gordon would bring little more than Nigel already does. Sad to say it but only Harry with Joe Jordan, and perhaps Hoddle would give us more options. My fear with a choice of Hoddle is he's been out of the Premier League too long.

Nope - wouldn't work - we've already spent the money that Harry would want to spend.

  11. For those that think a change of manager or a returning manager can't freshen the place up or turn things around need only to look down the road at Bournemouth

Since Eddie Howe returned he has a record of P5 W4 D1.....not a bad start is it?

    Compared to Paul groves P20 W3 D11 L6

I do so love profound conclusions being drawn from a statistical sample of 1.

  12. Agree. However, if we keep getting dicked then players confidence in the manager will be smashed to bits and will linger on next season.

Yes - but the reason they are getting dicked is because the PLAYERS weren't doing their job. That was made more than clear in the post match analysis. Time to stop getting on Adkins back and perhaps put the blame where it really lies (but not during game!!)
