My exact position is the same now as it was at the time. I said it countless times but the likes of yourself still continue to read what they want to read. I was underwhelmed by Jos signing based on the Celtic fans and what they said about him. At no point did I write him off. I'm not sad enough to go back and find the first comment I made about Jos but it was something like 'pretty underwhelmed but I'm prepared to give him a chance and I hope he comes good.' Rewrite history all you like but those are the facts.
But why do you allow yourself to be underwhelmed based on comments by another bunch of fans as opposed to backing the judgement of our scouts and manager who, I suspect, have better football credentials?

Not surprised he sulked, I was gutted too. We were never going to beat Arsenal by sitting back, needed our attacking players and we opted against it.
I also remember loads of fans thinking they had the perfect solution of 'play him left wing, he'll be amazing'. We tried, he couldn't cut in, he was awful. Some players just naturally don't run down the line whichever side they play on.
He was dropped because Arsenal shredded us down his wing in a game just prior to the cup final. I seem to recollect that his replacement Chris Baird had an excellent game.

Let's hope all four of them lose.

Apart from the fact that it was Puncheon's superb cross field pass to lambert who headed it to Lee who should have scored but won a penalty instead.
I actually thought Lee had a great game. Good runs and great "toe-in" tackles especially in the second half.
and Merrington agreed with you. From what I have seen of him he is a real asset.
-
I only listened on the radio but Merrington was adamant that the pitch was so bad that Saints could not play their normal game and were quite right to adopt that tactics that we did. He was clear that our instructions were to get the ball into their half and then look to feed off the knock downs. Lees energy and movement was why he was played ahead of Sharp. He suited that tactic better. Speaking personally, I like it when we take a pragmatic approach to a game. At this stage (or any stage for that matter) there are no promotion points for style.

LOL @ this thread. Big Sam is a knob is he?? A manager that has taken a small club like Bolton to their highest ever premier league finish, managed one of the countries biggest clubs in Newcastle, was doing a great job at Blackburn before being shafted and now has West Ham top of our league. No he doesn't know what he is talking about, is a knob and can f*ck off, us internet posters know better.
Good lord - I agree with Turkish! Granted that Sam is not very likeable and a moaning g1t but as a manager he is effective.
Now, I must go and lie down
-
No one is saying he will be a Premiership superstar. That would be crazy. But not as crazy as writing him off after barely 100 minutes of football and one very good goal.
How have you come to your conclusion Lewis?
By being as blinkered as he accuses others of.

It's hardly something to get excited about is it?
Who was getting excited? I simply highlighted an article that I thought was of interest to fellow fans and if even if it was wrong it might get us a few extra foreign supporters and sell a few grands worth of merchandise. Remember a lot of kids follow the clubs that their heroes play for (witness all the Man U, CHelsea and Liverpool shirts around Southampton). Lee will be a hero at home to at least some youngsters so they will follow us. All to the good I say.
-
It was shown in Scotland a few months ago so the DVD is already out. I have got it, so I can promise that the rest is as good as the first show. Getting Eric Bibb and Alison Krauss was a bit of a coup. The "House Band" seem to be getting better and better and the US Bluegrass musicians really looked like they were enjoying the experience.
-
Free money? Never heard of that before. Realistically how many extra shirts are we going to sell? How much extra will it make us? A few grand at best.
and your problem with that is...?
-
Probably most japanese are taking a bigger interest in Bolton and the Arsenal loanee, Miyaichi who also scored a decent goal on the weekend.
But it is nice if we can get a share of it.
-
According to the Telegraph Lee's presence has raised Japanese interest in the Championship. His progress is being followed over there with great interest

I don't really get the Pompey are cheats thing.
Surely if you believe that Pompey's overspending was cheating, it follows that we were also cheats, albeit to a lesser extent.
Don't you mean gross overspending. And if continuing to hire players on huge contracts when you have made no effort to pay the 20p in the £ that you owe is not cheating then tell me what is!
-
Spare a thought for them down the road ?
Yep - just done it. Now moving on I thought that Morgan and Lallana were outstanding today with my vote going to AL. He was definitely back to his best and at his best he is damn nearly unplayable. The oppo simply cannot handle him.

A ScrewBlueDriver. One large measure of fish oil stirred with an even larger measure of vitriol ordered on a tab that isn't paid.

Just trying to maintain the high standard of the thread

Posters too wrapped up in their own agendas against the forum villan to post anything worthwhile as usual.
Ha - now it all comes out - he supports Villa

I think that this story is a 2+2=? from the fact that Wenger was so angry after last night's performance by his team that he has determined (allegedly) to get rid of half the team at the end of the year. I'd love to think it was true but I am not holding my breath.
-
you weren't there for the minutes silence for Ted Bates in 2003 then?
I was and it was a few. The most of the rest were trying to shut them up. I was far more disappointed by our own fans who rose to it a broke the silence themselves by booing back.

Lucy Pinder tried to kiss me at SMS a few years back!
Presumably you fought her off

If Grant Holt who lets be honest is just a big lump, has scored 11 goals in the premier league, how many would Rickie [ a far,far better footballer score, with us hopefully].
Rickie gets better every game and his close control is absolutely top drawer. I am really excited what Rickie and Billy Sharp, can achieve for the rest of this season.
The with us proviso with Rickie,is because he will be in great demand,if we are not promoted this season .[ 50/50 I would say].
I think that you're are being a bit disrespectful to Holt. Anyone who can score 11 goals at this stage of the premiership season must have something about him. We don't watch him every week like we do Rickie. That said, I agree absolutely with the OP. BTW, unlikely as it is, I would love it, just love it if Pearce did include RL in the England squad in the Sherringham role. It would give me a reason to watch England

You may be surprised to hear that I too am surrounded by other fans - even in the Chapel !
Although I don't take all that much notice of what they say because I form my own opinions without much reference to what others think, for what its worth Guly today came in for plenty of criticism from those around me - believe you me some of it more rather strident than anything I've posted.
People keep saying he's great without being able to provide examples of his supposed greatness, and how it was materially vital to our winning of this game.
And of course there is no herd response in that
-
Oh I always read what others say, but I aways call things only as I see them.
Now whether my view happens to coincide with that of others is as unimportant a matter to me, as it should be to you. Rest assured I'm certainty not going to be in fear of expressing myself just because it is unpopular on here.
You are entitled to your opinion - but you are wrong!.
-
If you think what Guly did for us today was great then you're far too easily pleased mush. He was sh1te.
You are one of the few people on this board tonight who thinks that. Even his critics were lauding him. TBH I think that you must watch Guly with a pair of blinkers on.

What is the point of Jordan, Ant and Dec, Davina McCall, all those useless pillocks in Big Brother Houses. You might as well ask what is the point of TV except to show football.
