Marsch explains why he decided not to take the job in a podcast interview with Simon Jordan. He wasn’t offered long enough.
We would have gone down with Marsch regardless.
I thought in that interview he stated the reason he withdrew was down to detecting there was a division in the boardroom ( presumably Semmens/Old Guard v Ankersen).

I think RM is learning …
The problem is the playing from the back
I still think he's not the right manager for this team, but he's showing a glimpse that he might be able to change.
The bit in bold tends to suggest he isn’t learning or adapting.
Some of the selections you highlight have been forced by injury, Smallbone for instance.
Agree that the crap defence and squad may not be solely down to him, but he did bring in Wood and Manning (although latter had a reasonable game yesterday). However his goals against have been pretty shocking wherever he’s been.

I was going to suggest a job swap, the tea lady for Russ. Won’t affect the first team much, but he’ll take so long pushing the trolly sideways & backwards it’ll be cold by the time it arrives.
Don't expect real milk, bound to be some soya substitute.

Who was responsible for giving RM a new contract (utter madness) in the summer?
7 minutes ago, whiteleySaint30 said:We love a bit of sentiment- new contract for RM, bring back R Fraser. Sadly neither are good enough for the premier league.
Why not see how Martin gets on in the prem before before giving a new contract - afterall, surely last season he inky achieved what he should have done with the squad at his disposal.
So obvious that a bit more caution was required wasn’t it ?

Expect the skates will part company with John Moussaka soon.
He had a promotion last season so perhaps he’s on the Rasmusometer for our next manager.
You know it makes sense

Talk sport suggesting board is split on Martin with owner having concerns about Martin and Ankerson.. it’s his investment
Who makes up the Board, isn't it Rasmus, Kraft, the Dyson bloke whose name escapes me, and one of Katherina Liebherr's representative ?
Would have thought Dragan as the owner has the casting vote on this.

Source?
You, or I, have no idea what is in his contract. He may have a performance clause meaning we can get rid if certain triggers aren't achieved.
That would seem a bit too imaginative for SR

Thanks for sharing that insight (and personal history of how you joined the righteous side of Hampshire football).
In truth I expect many have harboured similar feelings of not being fussed about the result if it would bring a close to a manager’s time with us (Jones that’s certainly the case with many - just look on here -wanting him out, and Branfoot years ago I should think).

Some good names there no doubt. But why would any be interested in a relegation shit show ?
Many would be good options if even lower mid table and looking to push on, but suitability to the scrap ahead is a different matter.

Be awkward if he’s sacked before that Saints Legend game in a couple of weeks.
Perhaps it could be rebranded and marketed as Saints Legends XI V Russell Martin's Bellends XI.

An ex-Prem Manager with a high level of experience, albeit with no significant success (e.g. titles) out of work for quite some time, if offered a contract to the end of the season with a decent bonus on Prem survival? Not sure, but surely he might be tempted?
That would be an ideal scenario in my opinion - give SR / the club time to ponder over ‘what next’…breathing and planning space.
Only one man.
In the words of a Madness song “ There’s a man I know, at least I used to years ago..”

Amazed how many people are saying yes. I'm still Martin In, but I would think his position will be untenable if we're still in the same position say in 4/5 games time.
Hadn’t this been said just about every week since the Forest game, transfer window closing, etc
Seems to be just putting off the inevitable (or kicking the can down the road to use a modern term)?

Didn't want him. Still don't. Don't like him,, his tactics, his style, his hair, his stupid fitted trousers, his voice and his attitude. I want him sacked immediately and then televise Lucy dumping him. I want him mocked mercilessly as a failure and reminded that his entire ethos was a joke.
Cunt.
Wow!
Can’t say I’ve warmed to him during his time here, but your post takes the biscuit!
Strangely, although expecting a struggle this season,I thought he’d make a better go if it early season than he has. Feel sorry for him with strikers at his disposal, but clearly doesn’t make the most of what he has in the squad.
God help us with Rasmus making another selection though.

They should sack him after this shit fest and just go and get potter. Relegation will cost far more.
41 minutes ago, DrunkenSaint said:Go all out for Potter and hope he can turn a bunch of championship players into something that is better than what Martin can muster up then let him have a massive say who to bring in next season like he did at Brighton.
Get real !!
Do you seriously think Potter, or anyone else half decent would be interested in this shit show ?If we get someone of Potter’s reputation or standing then my pricks a kipper.

I’ve no agenda here. I have no idea what should be done. But SR gave him an amazing new contract part of which was RM was allowed full control of transfers. They knew what they were getting and he had no intention of changing the way we play. That suggests to me it’s going to take a lot before they sack him. FWIW I’m conflicted a couple of wins would obviously change things and I can’t think of a decent replacement .
Is there no limit to the muppetry in managing SFC ?
Jones, giving Selles the job after a single game, the signings in Jan 23, now this.

He’d probably be a good fit at Saints though if we have ambitions of solidifying our Prem status again. I don’t see him as a top 6 manager. He’s a bit over-rated in that respect in my opinion. Did a good job with Brighton and got them a top 10 finish.. once (i think). Got a shot at Chelsea, who admittedly were a basket case at the time, but couldn’t make a difference there and had the worst win rate of any recent Chelsea manager. I’d swap RM for him now. Get him in SR!
I don't disagree with you, but in his own mind, he probably is a Top 6 manager, and will be expecting to be courted by clubs already there or with similar delusions (West Ham, or Everton post takeover for example).

Alarming thought today, but Schumacher is available. As ridiculous as this may seem we do have a history of going for a Stoke failure, Hughes, Jones.
Not even Rasmus could be that much of a prick could he ?

Doubt there is any substance in this. It smacks of lazy clickbait journalism.
I suspect there’s more than a modicum of substance in the story that Saints are considering their options. The ‘link’ or mention of Potter though is doubtful.
Potter will have other options and will probably wait for something better than our relegation struggle.

Stunned to hear today was the first time Delap has scored twice in one game in senior football! He's in his third season and cost £20m!
That said his second goal was great play. If he can do that frequently he'll be worth every penny. Not convinced as yet though
But still it seems a cut above the Sheffield Utd dream team we signed

Corberan or Eustace it is then. Or Carrick who was meant to be on the Rasmus Spectrum before.
No idea if Eustace has a beard, or skinny jeans. Or vaping credentials of any of them.
