Cameron pledges ANOTHER £814m towards vaccinating the world's poorest children (on top of £2bn we are already going to donate) As well as being more than five times the £274million pledged by the U.S., it is more than 30 times higher than Germany’s £44million and almost 50 times the £30million given by Spain. Japan gave just £5.5million, while China gave nothing. Raj Shah, head of the U.S. Agency for International Development, said America could not afford to give more because it was facing a ‘very difficult budget environment’. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2002898/David-Cameron-pledges-814m-vaccinating-worlds-poorest-children.html I think it's a disgrace that we are giving money to other countries when we are up to our eyeballs in debt and having to stomach huge budget cuts and tax rises. Cameron is making a huge political error here.

Precisely. Xenophobia has been actively encouraged by the political establishment in times of national emergencies throughout the history of humanity. At present it's politically incorrect, but I have no doubt that at some point in the future this will swing the other way. You'd have to be naive in the extreme to think otherwise based on past precedents. Of course the Liberal Elite won't accept this because they are of the opinion that human nature has been "corrected" over the past 50 years, but I am of the belief that Enoch Powell was right and that mass immigration into this country will one day prove to be the catalyst for civil war. It's interesting to note that recent reports have suggested that the two main reasons for Labours demise were the senses of injustice felt by the electorate in that the party was perceived to favour lone parents and immigrants. This proves that despite the attempts of the Islington establishment Britain isn't the Socialist state they dream of. -
It's good to see Baj has stuck to his guns on this despite the whinging. The sign of a true leader of men.

In the film, they are given a cockney accent. I'm just pointing this out to you. Also I always imagined that the Hobbits came from Devon (the South hams to be precise). That said Worcestershire/Salop is the region that most think the shire was based on. This is plausible as the industrialisation around ironbridge contrasts between the shire and north of the shire. -

The truth is incontrovertible, malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end; there it is. Winston Churchill. -

Played by Helmut Bakaitis (born in Germany to Lithuanian parents and educated in Australia). His accent sounds English and this ties in with him primarily acting in shakespearing type plays. -

Of course it counts. In myriad american films the director seeks out an Englishman to play the bad guy(s). -

Been a long time since I read the book, but I know a lot was missed out. That said the films were very good. If you read the Chronicles of Narnia they too are a masterpiece, but the films were attrocious. The whole story is lost and replaced with epic battle scenes that form only a small part of the chronicles. -

Tolkien will have known and perhaps it's documented somewhere, but it was very predictable that hollywood gave them English accents. -

Such as Hollywood using English accents for the bad guys? It happens regularly but I have never complained. Take the Lord of the Rings - listen to the accents of the Orcs. -

So because it's a term you don't like it should be airbrushed from history? Do you tear pages out of your history text books that you don't like? -

As i've said the best historical films are those which are closest to the historical facts.
