  1. The system that operates on this site preventing me from posting no more that three times in 24 hour means I'm a little late with this - Sorry! But here goes! The general consensus amongst myself and my fellow Terriers was we put on a very professional performance on Saturday. Nothing fancy, just honest hard work and determination and it brought big dividends, because it stopped your lads playing. I expected a whirlwind start might throw a spanner in the Southampton works and so it did. Basically, you didn't know what to do with us. When you had the ball we were in there stifling play and closing down, some may say unfairly at times but to be honest, I thought you gave as good as you got in that department. When we had the ball we looked to get it forward quickly which might well have looked like 'hoof ball' but clearly we'd done our home work and knew your defense wouldn't like a direct approach. With Novak closing defenders down tigerishly and 'Big Al' under everything in the air we were dominant and looked dangerous every time we went forward. I'll admit we had a fair amount for fortune but I thought we earned it. At half-time I wondered what Southampton's response would be and while I thought things changed for a while at the start of the second we soon settled again and as the game wore on there was only going to be one winner. I don't really recall our keeper having much to do in fact. I genuinely felt sorry for Lambert when we had to come off especially as he was getting ridiculous taunts from three quarters of the stadium. It was clear that Southampton have some very good players but they just didn't match our energy level, high tempo and determination which were the vital ingredients what won the game for us. I genuinely think your lads will learn from that because we have been the same at times in the past and we've come through it. I have absolutely no doubts you will be up there when it matters in May, until then, good luck and enjoy it!
  2. God Bless Dad...but it was...sorry but you were nowhere! You just weren't init..init!
  3. Just back! And a bit piddled to be honest! I'll give a more considered posting tomorrow but basically, just as I hoped for we scored early, we wanted it and we kept going!
  4. Setting off over to Udders soon, meeting a mate in Leeds at 11.30am, a few drinks (for me) then he's driving over. Should in Town about 1pm, then it's 'The Kings' and 'The Sporty' I think. Not sure where to sit, Kilner Bank or Riverside Lower, both should be rocking today I would have thought. Still unsure about the outcome of this one. They say you're as good as your last game, so if that's the case we'll blow you away. However, Southampton were in pretty hot form against Tranmere too, so we're both 'on'. I suppose in that case it comes down to who wants it most, who starts positively and who takes the initiative. If we can get you on the back foot nice and early and get our noses in front I reckon we're in with a shout. However, the longer it goes without us scoring then I fear the worst. One thing for sure it's going to be fascinating. Heres to a great match!
  5. How come with such excellent home crowds you only expect this kind of away following? Is it lack of belief at this stage of the season after a worrying start? Obviously it's a fair distance to travel for a League One game but surly after a five game unbeaten run confidence that this is a promotion year must be flooding back. Basically, I would have expected a club the size of Southampton to have brought well over 2000 to a game of this magnitude. Added to which, I can gather you have fans all over the country including plenty up t'north. Perhaps they'll all come and pay-on-the-day! That said, I genuinely hope the '****heads' that have been talked about on here stay at home because while our fans don't normally cause trouble, if trouble starts they're as bad as anyone else. No one would want any immature silliness to spoil what should be a great day out for the majority of fans. Lets all hope it passes off peacefully and we all have a good time watching our beloved teams. Score? Well it's another head and heart situation for me because I'm totally confused! My head says, a close game that could go 1-0 to either team or maybe a draw. My heart says the Terriers turn on the kind of form we've only really seen glimpses of this season and win with a three goal margin. I believe we really are capable of that but as with last season we're still something of Jekyll & Hyde side. So who knows?
  6. Just so you can sing along after some singing juice here's a couple staple Galpharm ditties. The Town Anthem. (Smile Awhile!) circa 1922 There's a team that is dear to its followers Their colours are bright Blue and White They're a team of renown They're the pride of the Town And the game of football's their delight! All the while upon the field of play Thousands loudly cheer them on their way Often you can hear them say 'Who can beat the Town today?' Then the bells shall ring so merrily Every goal will be a memory So Town play up and bring the Cup Back to Huddersfield! Huddersfield! Huddersfield! Huddersfield! Huddersfield! etc. etc. Terrors in The UK circa 2009 I am a Yorkshire man And I am an Hudders fan I know what I want And I know how to get it Got to destroy Bradford and Leeds Cos I wanna beee HTFCccccccccccc. Come on Saints, sing up now!
  7. This web site only lets me post three times in 24 hours so I couldn't reply to the info requests yesterday! Sorry! In answer to two questions: 'The Sportsman' does get busy pre-match but in my experience not overly so. It really does depend on whether you want to sit down or not and it can take awhile to get served at the bar. The other question about places to go at night! I'm not actually from Huddersfield so apart from the pre/post match pubs I've mentioned, I can't really advise too well. From what I've heard the pubs and bars around the University are pretty lively and full of nice 'painted ladies'. But generally I don't think Huddersfield's short of bars etc Have a good time!
  8. Oppppppps...I meant to say Taylors Landlord - 'Directors is a Courage beer! My personal favourite is Taylors Golden Best in fact!
  9. If you're anything like me you won't want to waste too much 'drinking time' by walk too far and 'The Slubbers' is a bit of walk from the Station to be honest. Where as 'The Sportsman' is about 5 minutes round the corner!. The Sportsman has Taylors Directors too!
  10. Hi, Both pubs you mention are brilliant real pubs. In fact a good mate of mine owns the 'Sportsman'. I've not sampled any food in there but it looks like good home made traditional pub-grub, and quite rightly Yorkshire pudding with everything. These two pubs do get very busy so if your thinking of going get in there early if you want seats. The Slubbers is a pub that feels like it hasn't changed much since World War 2, in fact you can almost hear air raid sirens. However, they serve a full range of Timothy Taylors Beers that are second to none in my view. The two pubs that are part of Huddersfield Railway Station are excellent real pubs too. 'The Head of Steam' is to your left as you exit the station and The Kings Head' on the right. Look for the Jimi Hendrix pub sign. Not so sure about food in these two though but 'The Kings' in particular does have a decent range of beers. Over the other side of the town centre 'The Rat and Ratchet' is worth a visit, bit of a walk but it won the Best Pub award by local branch of CAMRA last year with an astounding range of beers. On a general note, Huddersfield pubs are away fan tolerant but wearing colours does draw the attention of local nutters so one or two don't allow away fans in. The ones that aren't 'away friendly' are easily spotted because they usually have some 'old bill' kicking around outside. There's plenty on-street parking near the Stadium especially off Leeds Road so you should have no trouble finding somewhere but if you go in the official car parks be warned, they're a pain to get away from. Have a great day!
  11. I agree with Nigel Adkins on this one! For example, although Leeds Utd went up last season they struggled with some woeful defending at times and it was nearly their undoing. Not that your team should turn into a dour 'don't lose at all costs' outfit but defending 'as a unit' when you don't have the ball is essential in this League and the ones above. At Huddersfield Town we've struggled with precisely that. Lee Clark wants us to play at a high tempo with intensity and when we do that, we do well. If we allow the opposition time and too much space then we don't. I wasn't at Colchester Utd on Saturday but apparently after a shaky start we made a few adjustments and totally buried them in every aspect of play. Mainly because we played very well 'without the ball', as well as with it. To play that way you have to have very fit and physically strong players, that's why in the close season we signed some older and more experienced players. Our young lads did okay last season but when we came up against more seasoned professionals we were found wanting. Another issue is the quality of your squad. It's all very much a level playing field in at the start of the season when everyone has a fit squad and no suspensions. But as soon as they kick in, squad depth becomes a seriously important factor. It's not the size of the squad it's the quality of it that counts.
  12. Not 100% certain but I'd say it should be pay on the day, the Pink Link Stand holds 4,800. Meant to say, should any of you need some 'pub advice' then just say so! There's a good number of decent pubs selling proper beer and for the less discerning, loads of lager sheds!
  13. Yeah! I'll be there but then again it's a home game for us Terriers! On our day we can beat anyone, as I expect you can so I'm looking forward to a great game between two fancied teams. Despite being at home I reckon you might have the upper hand - mainly because Mr Adkins will know us inside out! That said, I'm pretty confident we'll be fired up for it. Bring em on! If you pub news etc give me the nod!
