  1. Monday night...should be a cracker..

both teams bang in form and the two best players on the planet in serious goal scoring form...

    nothing in it

You make an excellent point. I'm going for 0-0.

  2. Okay, a bit more detail now I'm not sat in the station, on my phone (not litterally). Saints did their job pretty efficiently. Cheltenham obviously came for a replay, a couple of fans told me as much before the match. Never really looked interest in our half, other than a few tentative advances when they went a goal behind. Gave up after the second. There definitely needs to be some dealings in the transfer window. Holmes is shot. Short of the second coming of Christ, he is never going to get fit enough to be of any real use. Gobern isn't there yet, neither is AOC. Rickie needs a rocket up his arse like nobodies business. Guly got another goal, but is still far from a finished article. Lallana is an absolute class above anything I've seen in League 1, but he can't play in every game. Dickson can't play LM, neither can Mills.

In short, we are very reliant on Lallana for creativity and Barnard for goals.

    Player ratings.

Bart - 7 Had a couple of dodgy kicks first half, but couldn't fault him otherwise. Played on after a couple of batterings, one from Fonte first half which had him flat on the floor.

Richardson - 6 Not much wrong, came off injured.

Fonte - 7 Never really troubled, dealt with most stuff well. Will be missed next weekend.

Jaidi - 6 Good in the air, but slow and a bit hoofy.

Dickson - 6 Was a 7 for his LB display, but 5 in midfield. Excellent assist for Lallana's goal and they generally link well together.

Holmes - 6 Some good creative play in his all too brief cameo. Time to offload I'm afraid.

Hammond - 7 Decent captain's performance, a strong influence in the middle

Gobern - 6 Annonymous first half. A bit better second and nabbed a goal. Not good enough for League 1 at the mo.

Lallana - 8 MOTM. Took the p*ss and a well executed goal.

Lambert - 4 I know this has been done to death on here but please can we have Beattie and/or Le Fondre in January Mr Cortese.

Guly - 6 Sometimes he's useful and gets into good possitions, other times he staggers around like a camel on crack.

    Subs:

Butters - 6 No worries here if FR is out for a week or two.

AOC - 6 One or two good runs forward, but missed a 1-on-1 and generally had a quiet game.

Harding - 5 Didn't look too sharp. Gave away a really sloppy corner trying to see the ball out and allowed someone to nick it and get a cross in.

P.S. Cheltenham brought quite a few fans and made a decent fist of getting an atmosphere going a couple of times. Northam was nice and lively too.

  3. I thought Guly and Gobern were pretty average, despite the goals. Guly has a terrible touch and gives the ball away a lot. Gobern was pretty annonymous first half, although looked stronger second half. Lambert was crap, but the defense looked pretty good, as did Hammond and Lallana. Holmes... You feel for him, his frustration at the injury was obvious, but we just can't carry passengers in this squad. Bart looked pretty good, a couple of dodgy first half kicks aside. His prayers obviously worked.

  4. Well, I enjoyed it even if I was freezing my tits off. Now my train has been cancelled I get to sit in the freezing train station for an hour. W00T!! We're in the next round, but it's disappointing to see 3 players go off injured like that. Pompey in the next round? People have been saying it every year since the dawn of time, but for the first time in 6 years we've actually got a chance of beating them.

  5. He reminds me a lot of Safri. Technically excellent, but I often wonder if he really does enough. As MarkSFC said, he doesn't seem to really fit the bill in either an attacking or defensive role, meaning it's quite hard to get the balance right in the middle. I think he could cut it in the Championship, but very much doubt any Premier League sides are interested in him.

  6. well.....almost !

I don't think I'd play both Seaborne AND Martin, one or the other, with Fonte OR Jaidi, maybe

Not Jaidi, I'd say 3 games in a week is a bit beyond his legs.

Fonte is possibly our most important player, I wouldn't want to play him either.

Nothing at all wrong with either Martin or Seaborne and I see no reason they can't play together. They are both young, athletic, eager to prove and above all, good. Same with Bart. I don't get the general attitude on here that playing him would be to our detriment. He put in some excellent performances last season, notably against Charlton and Norwich in the JPT. In fact in the 12 games he played last season, we won 9, drew 1 and lost 2. The two defeats were at Leeds and Colchester. Both bogey grounds for Saints. 2 of those wins came playing for Barnsley in CCC.

There's no point in having a squad if you're not prepared to play half the players.

  7. Bart

    Butters

    Martin

    Seaborne

    Dickson

    Gobern

    Guly

    Hammond

    Holmes

    Lambert

    Doble

Assuming Seaborne is fit and Connolly doesn't have the legs for 90 mins. AOC seemed to be getting a lot of cramp on Tuesday, so I'd give him the day off. Lambert needs a goal from open play like I need a Ferrari.

  8. Southampton : the home of brain dead idiots who dont even know how to spell "culture" and whose idea of creativity is going shopping at West Quay and getting blind drunk.

Yes. Nobody from Austria has ever shown intollerance towards another culture. Oh no...

  9. No, he's not crap. He's really quite good, as he proved when he started against Tranmere. All our play came through him. His link up play is a class above, and he times runs brilliantly. Not to mention he chases all sorts of lost causes to good effect.

He's basically just a better version of Papa Waigo. But yes, we need a new scapegoat now Puncheon has gone so this thread makes sense.

FWIW I think Waigo was a lot better. Seemed to create quite a few chances, when he was onside, and chipped in with a fair few goals. Also I rated Puncheon and certainly wasn't one of his bashers. Clearly however he has not been a happy bunny this season.
