Saints v Coventry, 12.30pm Saturday 20.12.2025
Lighthouse replied to Tommy Mulgrew's topic in The Saints
Well there were two stonewall penalties, then there's the one that Azaz stuck over with the keeper off his line, Scienza hitting the underside of the bar within two minutes, Wood just missing the post from a corner and Scienza's run and shot which was about a yard wide of the left post. That's not taking into account the chances we might have created, had that free kick been six inches lower and the penalty been given/scored within the first ten minutes and the psychology of it all changed. So six reasonably decent chances, including two cast-iron penalties. Would it be reasonable to suggest that on a good day four of them get converted, or am I just being quirky, weirdo Lighthouse again? -

No reason we can’t win this, if we play the way we know we’re capable of, take our chances and don’t have a crap ref. On another day the Norwich game would have been 4-0 at HT, and even with an off-pace second half they don’t come back from that, so I won’t dwell on the negatives. Fellows being back would obviously be massive, if that were the case. Failing that I’d honestly go with Manning and Wely, rather than Ryan ‘jog forwards to the first player he comes up against then stop, pirouette and play the ball diagonally back to a CB’ Fraser. Sounds like Charles won’t be an option on the bench for a while longer, which is a bummer because Romeu and Aribo…. Guuuegh! -
His entire Everton career so far seems to 80th minute and later (often 86th) sub appearances and one start against Palace, where he was subbed off at HT when losing. He doesn’t seem to be rated there at all, you get the impression he’s just being thrown on out of embarrassment for the money he cost.
-
Seems like the only thing he hasn’t lost is the ability to get booked.
-
We’ve had five penalties this season? Agree with the sentiment though, his pens are all medium pace, waist height and apparently easy to read in terms of direction.
-
I don’t mind three at the back. Seriously, since coming in he’s shown how to play that system properly and win games. What I don’t get is why you wouldn’t deviate from it when it’s not working. Today was Still-esq, keep the same system but bring on random changes and just shuffle the pieces around.

You just know if we were 2-1 up with seven minutes of injury time, we’d be defending four consecutive corners. Saints? Nope, let’s turn back inside and find a pass to a CB, then misplace it straight to a Norwich player.
-
Romeu turning like an oil tanker there. Not that it matters, we aren’t scoring again today.
-
I don’t think Leo’s had a bad game. He’s just been our only decent player and they’ve kicked him off the park. Azaz has been far more anonymous.
-
You mean when Makama flicks the ball between his arms with his hand? Okay, sure.
-
FFS Wood!
-
Love an off-screen goal.
-
Inevitable.
-
TBH we could have been 4-0 up in 12 minutes and missed a penalty after that. It’s hardly been vintage Tonda but we’ve had the chances to be ahead.
-
They’re basically just kicking us off the park aren’t they. No other game plan.
-
Imagine being so absolutely raging at a football match that you chuck your lollipop on the pitch.
-
WTF!?
-
The ball looped up in the air for ages, the keeper recovered and Downes had to generate all the power through his own neck. Can’t criticise him for that. That next chance looked a penalty, all day long to me.
-
What a start that would have been. Unlucky.
-
Downs I thought was reported as injured and Oyekunle, other than making up the numbers with a couple of fleeting sub appearances, has never been a first team player. Other people will probably say Matsuki but he's basically in the same boat.
-
Who's fit that you'd have on there? Everything looks as I'd expect TBH, given the players available. Fellows will be a miss but we should still have enough to beat an awful Norwich team, who are missing Sargent.
-
A couple of our boys are out playing franchise cricket in the UAE. Dawson just whacked 38 off 14, whilst Vince went for a less impressive two ball duck. In other news, it looks like Neser's back next season, along with Jake Lehmann.
-
I suspect it will be Fraser, although another plausible option would be Wely on the wrong flank.
-
Chernobyl. Basically perfect.

Does anyone know if it’s possible to buy a half season ticket that’s literally just for the first half of each game?
