  1. They are obsessed with having a bigger ground than us, even though they have fewer fans.

Don't worry, they won't be making the same mistakes with their stadium as some of the biggest clubs in Europe, and their due diligence takes in more than just how the other guys serve beer. It's all because everyone in football really loves them, so all the other clubs are happy to share their secrets.

    True story

  2. Stephens is not playing "because we have no other choice", why do people keep on bashing the lad, he is a top quality CB who has done well in 1.5 seasons in the PL, he will get better, but he is certainly not a disgrace. yes he came from Plymouth, but he is still our Academy product. JWP is OK, but his lack of pace is stopping him ever getting to be top class.

But besides that, cutting through the ******** of your post, you do have a point. Our Academy needs a big shake up, while Hunter remains in charge we will not see a great improvement, one of the key ones that needs to be shown the door. The u18s have developed well this season though, following the appointment of Danny Butterfield, that's where our next stars are likely to emerge. But it is very difficult to break into the 1st team in the PL. Look at all of the players you mention and almost all broke through when we were in the Chumpionship or L1. So, if you want to see stars coming through from the Academy more often it is clear you need us to drop down a division or two, hopefully that won't happen. There are players good enough in the Academy to be in the 1st team squad, but managers (Koeman, Puel and Pell) wouldn't take the risk, maybe Sparky will be a little different. Its the way of modern football in this country.

I don't want to bash the lad, and he has a lot of positive qualities but he is anything but a top quality CB at the present time. He's easily the weakest in our squad of not very good center backs.

  3. : It had been coming though that was the first time Derby had properly got down the flanks. Targett, was, er, targeted there, and Derby overloaded once they got the ball out to the left. Jerome is always capable of bullying defenders.

[h=2]Goal! Derby 1-0 Fulham (Jerome 34)[/h] Huddlestone’s ball gets Forsyth out on the left. Great cross, and Jerome powers through Matt Targett to get there.

  4. Gallagher over Austin? Up there with the worst things I've seen on this forum :mcinnes:

    Gallagher is useless

    Couldn't agree more:

Sam Gallagher's stats for a struggling Championship side Birmingham:

    316 minutes per goal

    2213 minutes played

    7 Goals scored

    0 Assists

    Shots on target 18 (38%)

    Total shots 48

Charlie Austin's stats for struggling Premier League side Southampton

    138 minutes per goal

    966 minutes played

    7 Goals scored

    0 Assists

    Shots on target 25 (66%)

    Total shots 38

  5. You are quite wrong. Sam started 23 matches for Birmingham in the Championship and came on 10 times so was involved in 33 of the 42 games he was on their books (They had played 4 games already in the league when he joined). He was sent off once so that accounts for missing 1 match and was injured. He picked up a calf injury v Cardiff March 10th which sidelined him for 7 games. That means he was involved in every match apart from one which makes a mockery of your post. Plus I know for a fact Birmingham were desperate to sign him on a full time basis as were more than a dozen other clubs inc Wolves and Villa. If you go onto either Sam or Birmingham's Twitter pages you will see how highly the fans regard him. Finally I was at Sunday's game v Fulham and when Sam got subbed in the 75th minute he got one of the loudest standing ovations I have heard with the whole ground on their feet.

So, 10 times he wasn't in Birmingham's starting XI - not exactly the first name on the teamsheet. And their reactions seem to be mixed at best: https://birmingham.vitalfootball.co.uk/given-100-for-us-hasnt-done-enough-for-me-debate-over-re-signing-birmingham-loanee/

He's scored 7 goals at a rate of 316 minutes per goal and has achieved zero assists - which is pretty poor really. He's not even the best striker at Birmingham, and he's certainly not one of the best in the division.

  6. tbf he has been injured a fair bit this year. He was a regular for Blackburn.

He's also had periods when he's just not been selected for Birmingham, and Blackburn were relegated. He is definitely not a first pick in 90% of Championship teams, I can name any number of Championship forwards who are better than he is.

  7. Maybe we could strike a deal for Harry Reed....(one thing going for us, we have players like Gallagher/Targett etc who would be first picks for 90% of NPC teams)

Errr... Gallagher wasn't first pick for Birmingham for much of the season, and they're ****.

  8. Emmanuel Olisadebe has slammed Pompey as a small club in a hideous city

Former striker slams Pompey as "small club in a hideous city."

  9. I find the comments that we can compete with the top six to keep top class players totally unrealistic.

We have a potentially very good young CB learning his trade, we don't have a reliable striker.

The midfield and full backs are very strong.

the best players will only go to the top clubs.

we have been incredibly skilful/fortunate in finding excellent replacements in past years but perhaps other clubs have caught up.

We've had a poor season, but hopefully we will stay up.

Get real moaners , we were in the third division south when I and my schoolfriends started supporting.

This with knobs on. I also think the club is unusually well run. If we go down, does anyone seriously see us doing a Sunderland? Not me, and for that I'm very thankful.
