  1. As some others I am concerned about our defence, Fonte cannot do it alone and Jaidi is a little too slow now.

I am also concerned about the quality of ball from defence as we did resort at times last season to punting hopefull balls to the front men and 9 times out 10 losing possession.

I think Cork is a good signing and can only add to the quality of the side but I would like to see another forward who can compliment Lambert and a CB.

  2. its quite sad isnt it..

start of a transfer window...just been promoted from division 3 and people are question ambition/the manager as we are not blowing people out of the water with money...

    christ almighty.....

    Hark at bloody Mother Teresa!

  3. I'm with the prof on this.

For the first time in a long it seems that we are going into a new season as a settled club on and off the pitch. With this in mind I was hoping that we would prepare early for what is going to be a tougher league by getting some new faces in quickly and settling them into the side asap.

The natural progression is to strengthen the side as you move up the leagues and you are sadly mistaken if you expect the same side that did well in L1 to have the same impact in a higher and tougher league especially when three of the sides that have just come down from the prem with still some of their prem players and a parachute payment to purchase others.

We are leaving it late yet again with pre season training already underway and this too me could mean yet another slow start.

Is this a lack of ambition or is it another reason. My worry is that there may be a ring of truth in some of the rumours flying about in the last few months that we do not have any funds. Are we in actual fact reliant on Oxo being sold to raise funds? perhaps that is the reason why we pulled out of the Sharp deal as the Oxo deal is not tied up.

I have not exactly reached the panic mode just yet but I am starting to get nervous about our lack of movement player wise.

  4. SUrely the reason this pace is "dying" is because there is simply no football? As such, there is little to talk about - transfer dealings are shrouded in secrecy, and as such on both counts frustration mounts - hence the slanging matches that even a lurker like me can't seem to escape from. When we can go back to having an opinion on whether "he should have scored that one on one", or "should Nige play a 442/433", I think it'll be revitalised. Shutting up now.

Very true, it happens on here every summer.

Perhaps a signing or two might lighten the mood.

  5. tbf, the teams coming down last year were utter tosh.

Portsmouth were a mess, had no team and no money and were never going to be a threat. Burnley had a rubbish manager in charge and weren't very strong anyway. Hull were financially messed up and struggled to get anyone in.

The teams coming down this year already have established premiership squads and seem to have the means to add to it. The weakest of the relegated squads is probably Blackpool, but with holloway in charge they'll still be a tough team to play.

Rumoured that Shelby is being loaned to Blackpool by Liverpool.

  6. Talk Sport this morning said that the Oxo deal with Arsenal is a done deal, if this is the case perhaps NC is waiting to use the funds from that sell which is worrying because NC said we would not sell Oxo, plus it also suggest's that there are no other funds apart from those raised by selling players.

  7. Well there seems to be plenty of transfer activity elsewhere.

I have to agree with Alps on this to some extent especially when there is no guarantee that we wont lose any of our current squad to bigger and better clubs.

I know the club now likes to do these things behind closed doors but some message of intent would be nice to hear especially when you consider that not much of the 5 year plan is left and surely NA and NC do not believe that our current squad is equipped enough to threaten promotion.

Hopefully the reason for not dipping into the market yet is not lack of funds!

  8. Didn't go to away leg but went to home game. If I remember correctly it was p*ssing it down all night. Anderlecht were a very tall side and pretty useful. I remember cringing whenever Jim Steele got the ball and eventually he made a howler.

Great night though and great atmosphere.

I don't recall any ref gaffs that evening, mind you I was a little worse for wear due to a thermos flask which was not full of coffee.

  9. I'd hope we'd be thinking a bit bigger than that really (and the same could be said of Mackail Smith, can't really work out the obsession of some to sign him)

    -1.

  10. NA was recruited to get us promoted from L1 THIS season.

He is 2 wins away from that.

I (luckily) declared myself Whelmed by his appointment and stick with that.

At 5pm on 2nd May hopefully his job description will change and his role will be to get us promoted from the NPC.

I'll worry about that new job from 5:15 on that day, because we have NO firm information on what our budget will be next season and NO firm information of who from the present squad will leave.

The ONLY thing that has mattered this year is getting promoted. So my thoughts are - nearly

    Spot on!
