I think it's safe to say we are no longer a selling club.

My daughter is nearly 2. I reckon I will take her when she is 4 or 5. Maybe her first Saints game will be in the Premier League...
you'll have to bring her to a championship game so she'll be a REAL saints fan.........."i've seen Saints in the lower leagues"

There is no other team than Saints!
this (if you don't include internationals), I do take the occasional stroll down to Galway Utd, but done so more often when Jeff Kenna was manager (and bit part player) a couple of years ago.
-
masturbate
there would be no need, the job would been done on hearing the news!!!
then I would probably check the sun's website to see how they report the news!
-
One rumour that I heard from a mate who is well connected to his arms suggests that JEFF KENNA will be manager.lol !
Kenna isn't a bad manager actually - if we were looking for a cheap option, but I do expect someone with a better cv.
& the sooner the better

... It was a bit worrying that Pardew couldn't actually remember which team Saints played and dropped 2 points to at home last week (Orient). Very surprised that the result was not more impressed on his memory....
do you think we should constantly remind ourselves that "we couldn't even beat Orient at home" or should we think "poor performance/result, forget about it, lets concentrate about winning the next game", which do you think breeds the winning mentality?
-
this team has go 55 points this week with Evans, Valencia, & Carroll still to play, & I have 135 points so far (10th in SaintsWeb league)
I don't want to use my wild card yet...tempted to take a points hit....
Defense;
Mouyokolo (wolves £4M) has not played yet & Higginbotham (stoke £4.5m) did not play today (only got 1pt in gw1). I'm regretting not signing Baptiste and Al-Muhammadi instead but what can you do? I need to strengthen my defence.
Midfield;
I would like to drop Arteta for Bale, which would free up £1.9m & allow me change Petrov for Ireland*. I'm also thinking about swapping Valencia* with Scholes* which would free up more cash.
Forwards;
after watching MOTD Odemwingie/Elmander/Fuller could be a good replacement for Carroll*.
decisions, decisions, decisions.... all opinions welcome...
*=not played yet & I probably wont transfer in/out before they do.

Westofshannonsaints.....top of the league.....C'mon you red and white machine!!!!!!!

What's everyone's problem? The Sun are giving us more coverage now than they ever have done.
& there is no such thing as bad publicity... I'm gonna have a glance at tomorrow's Irish Sun to see if they have got the memo (although I have always found it hard to find any Saints related story in the Irish/Iorish tabloids - it's like where's wally)

I am devastated by this news, It feels like the loss of a close friend. But I can admit that one of my first questions was - what now? it's a natural reaction along with why did this happen?
Marcus has my eternal thanks. He has left the club in a far better position than when he came and I am very happy to read...
"The club is now financially stable. The directors are optimistic about the future prospects for the club both on and off the field." Liebherr's death has not altered that optimism. The executors of his estate were made aware of his emotional attachment to Southampton, which was only strengthened in the 13 months of his ownership. He would have wanted to be there when the Saints get promotion to the Premier League. The well laid plans for the club that he and the executive chairman had mapped out over a year ago will continue to be implemented uninterrupted and nothing will change in that regard. The Saints were Markus’ constant preoccupation.”What happens next.... I order the Away shirt with LIEBHERR on the back

this is pure farce. AP will be here at christmas
do you think he will be here in may?
I don't believe that NC doesn't think that AP will achieve promotion this year,if he did i think he would have sacked him (regardless of popular opinion) in June...But if a better man for the job becomes available....
Looks like it's Martin O'Neill then......in my dreams, I know, but so far NC has hired the best man for the job (& i can dream)

That said, quite a bit has to go wrong before we will be in trouble in this department as things stand: Lambert (30+ goals last season) would have to suffer serious injury; Barnard (just under 30 goals last season) would have to suffer serious injury; Connolly (a class striker at this level) would have to suffer a recurrence of his injury problems; and Lallanw (20 goals last season) would have to fail to overcome his knee problem. Could all those things happen? Well, yes. Is it likely at all? NO. So chances are, we'll be fine even as we are, though an additional striker will obviously provide extra security in the event of a couple of those eventualities arising.
and even if the above happens, we still have the loan market to exploit. Last seasons Loanees done quite well, this year there could be even better quality players available & now that we have got the bloat out of the squad we should have more cash available to contribute towards a players wages. when does the loan window open/close?
IMHO the trend so far has to be sign better players than are currently here, proven players that were in last years team of the year or played at a higher level and quality for the academy.
Everyone, including AP & NC knows that there is room to improve & expectations to be met. patience is a virtue/quality over quantity. We (on the pitch) have vastly improved over the last 12 months & if the same rate of improvement continues we will be talking about a squad fighting for a championship playoff place next year.
oh &
Can people please cut out the OT rubbish on this sensible thread... there was no need for anyone to respond to alpines OT post, even if the topic is being repeated.

mod's, thanks for cracking down on on the sh*te posted on here lately. Its been hard work on here lately reading 3 pages of a thread to fine 3 or 4 relevant posts. and I think that most visit the site to read rather than post.
Can I ask all members for a favour for the coming year - If you don't have something that adds to a thread, don't bother posting. I cant understand why some people are so eager to increase their postcount, it's not an indication of how cool/important/clever you are.

Last year, six teams picked up 80 points or more...
the author obviously forgot that Saints won 83 points and that was including our P*ss poor start.
one or two good points made, but imo the pressure excuse is unacceptable (even though I think it will be used)

Yet a
...nother revenue stream?
-
I'm really considering this, it would be great to be able to mail a copy to my work address, it would keep me occupied all week, but is there really that much more than I can get online?
Surely it just needs one person to subscribe, then they can just upload it, post link on here - sorted.I think copyright law's would prevent blantent sharing, but wouldn't prevent me from sending the odd copy to my brother.

ooohhhhh the season is about to start, I Can't F*ckin wait. I haven't been this excited for years. the future is so bright...Its white (with a red sash).
no "gelling" to be done & no excuses* for the coming season. I expect a flying start.
C'MON SAINTS - for once live up to my exceptions.
here's the Argyle build up thread, found through - MLG's site - i think
I liked....
My heart says 3 - 1, my head says 1-1My fairly safe prediction is that whatever the score, some people will read far too much into itDelighted it's on tv, I'll be watching it in Ballina, Mayo... there was a rumour that another Saints fan was seen there once, if your on here pm me.
>>edit, sorry I missed the build up thread

given my location, I don't get to Southampton very often and have depended on this site (or other incarnations) for quite a while to get my Saints "fix" but lately the standard around here has become very poor. as Rory said,
This forum used to be a laugh and you could get into some pretty good debates but not anymore. Not even when we're on the cusp of actually achieving something and having an owner and chairman most clubs in the country would be proud of.
I think that members and mods need to be reminded or a few of the T's&C's that are frequently being broken. for the full list see announcements banner at the top of the main page.
Sorry for posting a non-football post, I realise that I may have broken...We have a set of rules and points of etiquette that we ask every user to respect and adhere to while using saintsweb. This isn't because we want to appear draconian, it's to ensure the smooth running of the forum and to make sure it doesn't descend into chaos like other forums often do. They are as follows:- DO respect other forum members' opinions, even if they differ from your own.
- DO check that a topic you want to start hasn't already been posted.....
- DO NOT deliberately start arguments. This is known as "trolling". It is usually very easy to spot, and offending threads will be locked or deleted.
- DO NOT make sarcastic comments or imply that a thread is "boring" just because it doesn't interest you......
- DO NOT start a new topic that repeats a theme of a topic that has been locked or deleted by a member of the Admin Team. It was locked/deleted for a reason.
Mod's feel free to lock/move this thread if you want, or do infractions happen?DO check that what you are writing is relevant to the forum you are on. Any post deemed unsuitable to the forum topic will be moved.
Rather than Banning users I would like to see "problem" members limited to a certan number of posts per day. but something needs to be done what has happened to "playing the ball, not the man" whatever size of the fence you choose to sit.In order that we have a well-defined system of disciplinary methods, we will utilise the "Infractions" system on this forum. These basically award points relative to the offence committed and remain in place for a given length of time, apply to all forums except where explicitly specified, and are listed below:- Posting a pointless or sarcastic remark - 1 point, expires after 1 month
- Re-starting a theme of a locked topic - 2 point, expires after 6 months
- Insulting or abusing another member - 2 points, expires after 6 months
Accumulation of 10 unexpired points will result in an automatic two-week suspension. Members who have been subject to this two-week suspension who subsequently accumulate a further 10 points will receive a permanent ban.
- DO respect other forum members' opinions, even if they differ from your own.

Get to at least 1 game this year
-
I can't wait for the season to start.
Mod's can we have some moderation, how many threads do we need on the same topic?
-
I was surprised that we were rarely mentioned on ssn seeing that i would have thought they'd welcome the opportunity to say "next week on sky".
but last year i realised that pre season means fackall. i based my fantasy football team on preseason performance and had an awful start due to players not playing.
I am disappointed that we are not showing the Saints game in 3D though.
-
I think everyone is agreed that the main players we are looking for are a back up striker "in the mould of Lambert" and a CM with pace and an eye for goal, proven players that wdajfu in the championship at a price (including wage demands) that allows us to run at a profit/break even.
these players do not become available to L1 clubs very often. we have cut our reduced and wage bill and still and made room for these players to come in when they do become available, or at least are contrabute to the wages of a loanee.
Antonio and Papa were both here on loan here last year, Reading have obviously decided to retain Antonio, and Papa wasn't retained - read somewhere he didn't get on with AP.
from what I have seen/read our "ones for the future" are being signed to the academy & and permanent signing will be an improvement to the first team. There is no point in signing a L1 standard player on a 3 year contract when we expect to be in the npc(?) next year, or a player who is just playing for a contract (remember Saga???).
When you consider how well Pardew did in the loan market it's not inconceivable to think that we will look to the loan market again, especially when you take the new PL squad rules into account.
our squad on the first day of this season is better than at the start of last & if we had a better start last year, we would have finished in the playoffs - at least. I expect the squad to be improved throughout the season and if the same rate of improvement continues, we will finish the 10/11 season with a better team than we had at the same time in 09/10 and promoted.
IN NC/AP/ML I TRUST
The difference between Southampton and bournemouth.....

what? A ManU fan pays a fiver to join a Saints forum so he can talk about Brighton, that's a bit mental.
